I just took an 1,800-mile road trip and was getting 29 MPG at 75-80 MPH, so over 300 miles per tank. 1G AWD with 14b, 850cc injectors, 91 octane, Evo VIII wheels. I was very happy with that.
I do have an older version of windows on a partition in my 2006 MacBook with Boot Camp. I used to use that to tune my Evo with EvoScan and ECUflash. I will have to look into it to see if it can run the newest version of ECMlink with the fuel pump priming feature.
I was very excited when I found out about this feature, but I have not been able to get my laptop that can run it to connect to my ECU. I made a post on ECMTuning about the issue but no solution as of yet.I'm a Mac user without access to a Windows laptop.
I've had a few different setups over the years. This is the current setup but I'm about to change it as I am going to add the heater system back into the car and reinstall the HVAC dials into the OEM locations. The new setup is going to use a dual carbon fiber center vent from eBay seller...
The item 9!'clipseDOHC's 1g DSM build has been updated:After a few years of neglect, she's back in action! New paint, windshield, window tint, PowerStop brakes, JXB driveshaft carrier bearings, headliner, etc! Ready for a new life on the street!
I drove my Eclipse to work today (you've got to drive your Eclipse on Eclipse Day, right?), and the improvement from the JXB carriers is incredible! That clunking sound it gone, the shifting is much better, and the overall quality of the drive is vastly improved. I am very glad I went this...
Since installing the FIAV bypass plate and resetting the idle it has been idling like a dream! Cold starts, warm starts, after driving, it doesn't matter. Idle has been rock solid without any surging! I am very pleased! This morning I installed the JXB Performance driveshaft bearing carriers...
I didn’t. I had the factory double din stereo so I used those side brackets and surround. I did buy the Metra wiring harness so I didn’t have to cut any factory wires. Plus it makes it super easy to to install because all the colors match up with the aftermarket stereo.
I bought a cheap Double DIN unit on Amazon with Apple Car Play. The brand is PLZ and it only cost about $120 and came with an included backup camera. You wire the camera into your backup lights, so when you put the transmission in reverse, the backup lights also power the camera on and it...
I would fix the boost leaks first. That air has been accounted for by the MAF and the ECU is adding fuel for air that is no longer there. This could have the same effect as having a boost controller running higher than stock boost and causing the stock fuel system to hit fuel cut. All the other...
This is a 1G TB taken off and flipped upside down, showing the location of the Fast Idle Air Valve (FIAV).
This is great video to reference when checking the Idle Speed Controller (ISC), showing the resistance tests:And this one shows the visual inspection:This is also a great resource...
Ok thank you, I will check out the coolant temp and CrankingFuelAdj tab. Unfortunately, the only windows laptops I have access to are work computers and I can't install applications on them.
I think the prime feature would completely solve my issue but can't get the newer ECMlink application to work on either of my laptops and my current version of the application doesn't have that feature. I have also changed the diaphragm in my AFPR to no avail, so I think it is just the lack of...
Oh, I see. I'm interested to see how it turns out. This weekend I fixed the issue with the wipers not working on High. I had previously eliminated the wipers but added them back in when I was rallyxing and the Blue/Black wire (that powers the high setting) had pulled out of a crimp connector...
I actually like having the foam. How is yours turning out without the foam? Here is the horn diagram showing the differences with and without the anti-theft system. You can see on the anti theft system the horns are always grounded and without they are only grounded with the switch. The red...
Yesterday I tried to work on the shifter. It was super sloppy and there was a ton of play all over the place. I tried to swap in my 91 shifter (trans is a 90) and 91 cable mount but even after adjusting the cables as far as they would go I could only get into 1st, 3rd, and 5th. I couldn’t get...
Yes, I will definitely be replacing the carrier bearings next but I think that has more to do with the clunking than the shifting. All motor mounts are Prothane but I will be double checking them too. Im hoping the popping of gear is just a shifter cable adjustment issue. I’ll be looking into...
We made it back home safe and sound after an awesome road trip! I'm super impressed with the car but driving 1,800 miles over 4 days is bound to reveal a few minor issues. I'm going to document them here so I can start working towards fixing them.Horn doesn't work. Luckily we didn't need it...
I just finished a 1,800 mile road trip in my 1G from Texas to the Southern California Coast and ran across your road trip thread. Thanks for documenting it and sharing it here. Hopefully our successful trips will inspire more people to explore a little further from their homes. I love the...
On day one driving across western Arizona I had the check engine light come on a couple of times for what I presume was coolant temps. However the gauge only moved up a barely imperceivable amount. I’m not sure if the gauge is malfunctioning and not reading higher or if the warning light sensor...
We didn’t take many pictures today, it was just an 8 hour drive on I-8 and I-10 from Yuma across the southwest states of Arizona, New Mexico, and back into Texas! Once again, the DSM did amazing! We have a few little things we want to work on to make it better for future trips but overall I’m...
I’m just wondering why I waited so long to do something like this in this car! I’ve ridden my Harley across the country several times, taken the Humvee all over the southwest and Rocky Mountains, drove my old Evo VIII to Vegas and back, and taken a bunch of cross-country trips in our Sequoia...
We are having a blast for sure! It’s hard to believe I’ve had this car for so long and this is the first time I’m taking it on a long trip like this. It’s doing awesome, pretty comfy for two, fun to drive, and getting great mileage!
This morning we left El Segundo and headed south on the Pacific Coast Highway. Just south of LA we stopped at Laguna Beach and Victoria Beach. It was still pretty windy in the morning but the sun was shining and we had fun getting our legs wet in the Ocean. After lunch we continued south to...
Whoo! We crammed a lot into a single day!We woke up early and broke down camp. I cleaned all the bugs off the front bumper, checked the oil and coolant, and then we hit the road! We had a roughly 2 hour drive to our first stops in LA and it rained most of the way there. You might recognize a...
A few pics from day two (LA, Malibu, Santa Monica Pier, and Venice Beach), see the full post of the road trip thread here: '1,800+ mile Road Trip to the Pacific Coast in a 1G!'

It was a great first day! Thank you very much!No one was more surprised than me! The next two days have a lot less miles as we enjoy the SoCal sights and make our way down the coast and then another long drive back to Texas. Hopefully the DSM will keep it all together!
I might be crazy, but I’m doing it! A weekend trip from Texas to the Pacific Coast of California in my 1991 GSX. For the preparations leading up to this trip, check out my build thread: https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/9-clipsedohcs-1g-dsm-build.418713/post-153909252My wife and I loaded up...
I just drop it in and start pumping, it fits perfectly. I’ve been using this one for years, I got it at O’reillys or Auto Zone.We made it from Texas to California today, about 750 miles. I started a dedicated thread for the road trip so check it out and follow along, it should be a fun...
The car is ready (or at least as ready as its going to be) to hit the road!Free overnight shipping from Amazon is incredible! I was planning on upgrading to a SPAL but couldn't get one before the trip. I ordered a generic 12" slim fan, and it was at my front door when I got home from work...
When I left work yesterday it was back to extended cranking and idle surging, so those problems persist. Also, the slim fan still wasn't working so I ordered a new one with overnight shipping from Amazon to install this evening.Yesterday when I got off work, I took it for a 20+ minute drive...
Reviving this thread. Has anyone else actually used these aftermarket carrier bearings? They are more expensive than OEM but are also way easier to replace and seem to be a quality product. I'd be very interested to hear anyones real-world experience.
I started it up this morning and was surprised when it fired up relatively fast, after just a few seconds of cranking. Perhaps my cold start issue had more to do with the E85 than with fuel pressure not holding. Also, it didn't idle surge at all this morning. I think tightening the FIAV those...
After fixing the leaking PCV line I was still getting idle surge, so I pulled the TB and adjusted the FIAV as much as I could, which ended up being about 4-5 quarter turns. It wouldn't go any further after that. I reinstalled it and it seems to have lessened the idle surge considerably, but it...
The dash speakers came in (Pyle 3.5” PL31BK) and I mounted them into the original speaker mounting rings because they were slightly smaller. 3.5” instead of 4”. I went with the 3.5” speakers because they were only 2” deep, same as the originals.I also installed the new door speakers...
Thanks!I’m not sure if we are going with Fast and Furious quotes and I should say “more than you can afford pal” or if you actually mean the original retail price, which I got curious about and just looked up, and it was $16,693 for a GS (which is what mine was originally) or $18,683 for a...
The brand is PLZ (Amazon). It was only $129 (with coupon) and has 4.5 stars so I figured I would give it a try. It does not have HDMI connections, but it does capability for both front and rear cameras. The big thing for me was Apple Car Play compatibility.
