Make sure that the fuel injector harness is hooked up correctly. The throttle body harness and the fuel injector harness to the resistor pack are exactly the same on '90s. If you accidently swapped them, the car won't start.AWDriven.
Have you checked for codes? The NT's have a nice trouble code system, so no special equipment is necessary. It sounds a lot like an ignition problem (wires or plugs). I would have said that it is an intake problem, but the N/T use a MAP sensor instead of a MAS.AWDriven.
I'd say, the best way is to take it to the dealer and have them perform the recall. If they complete and it is still messed up, take it back until it is done right. The recall is for the life of the car. Many people were injured/died to get this recall in place. Use it.AWDriven.
If your temp gauge pegged, you more than likely warped your head and blew the gasket. The ticking sound was knock from your engine being way to hot. You probably have a locked closed thermostat.Whenever replacing the thermostat, spend the extra dollars and get a fail-safe. They lock open...
All the sensors but the knock sensor run through the same power wire. You have a short/open in the power wire leading to the MAS plug. The knock sensor error is due to the sensor not being plugged in. Check the connector. It is under the intake manifold. It should be mounted to the...
It is an ouput driver. My guess, is that you have something shorted in your car. You should be able to find a new one, but make sure you check the rest of the circuit before replacing.AWDrivenBy the way, what ECU is pictured? I like the daughter board set-up.
The best bet would be to get some maps and calculate the best turbo for the application. The latest Turbo mag has a good descripition on how to do this, and Turbonetics have quite a few maps.AWDriven.
At first the pressure rises, but as you hold the throttle steady (in neutral), the vacuum will increase therefore lowering the pressure. But, I know what you are all saying. It is just that a lot of people don't understand the pressure differential across the injector.AWDriven
The fuel pressure lowers with more vacuum and raises with boost. Therefore, if it hit the gas with the gear in neutral the vacuum will raise, and the fuel pressure will lower. It tries to keep the pressure differential constant across the injector at all times.AWDriven
There is definitely more low end torque with the cam advanced, however when the boost hits there isn't as much highend pull. As for the spool, I never really check it to often. If anything it would be very slim on the Frank 3.So, this basically shows what everybody has been saying that you...
Well, I read through the thread and figured that I would tell you my situation. I have WEB street grinds and and HKS cam gear on the exhaust cam. With the exhaust cam at 0 degrees, my idle is erratic. However, if I advance the exhaust gear I am closing the exhaust cam earlier and reducing...
Are you using the stock boost gauge or an aftermarket to determine boost? If it is the stock gauge, it may have an intake leak after the MAS, but before the turbo.AWDriven.
One question, why get the block bored if it doesn't need it? Get the piston bores checked out to see if they even need machining. That way, down the road if you run into a problem, you have more bore to play with.AWDriven.
Ninja, that's a good one!I have also gone through a bunch of batteries at one time, and it turned out that the alternator was burning them out.AWDriven.
I dented the crap out of my Buschur core when I ran into a curb at 50 mph. Mine leaked badly also. I took it to a very good tig welder and he welded it up without too much issue. It doesn't look as pretty, but it sure beats spending $600 for a new core. The only issue is that you need a very...
I would say that you are knocking and the ECU is pulling timing. My car does the same thing at times and I see the timing drop to 20 or less on the TMO gauge or datalogger.AWDriven.
If you have a datalogger, the fuel trims will tell you. If you don't, the car will be a little difficult to start and it should idle a little funny.I can almost guarantee you that the ECU is reset when you pulled the negative. One other way to tell is to trip a CEL. You can start the...
Small brake DSM's (pre '92) tend to warp the rotors, hence the vibration while braking. My '90 did this, and I retorqed all the lug nuts properly and the brake shimmy went away after a couple of weeks. If you plan on keeping the car for awhile, look into the big brake upgrade from a '92+ GSX...
I always pull the 10 amp fuse. I think it is labeled interior and it is on the lower right of the fuse box. When you pull it, the interior lights will turn off. If the radio is stock, it has a very long memory. I believe it is battery backed internally. Otherwise, the ECU will reset in...
Friend in town tossed a JDM engine in his '93 GSX, added mods and is running 11.8's on the stock bottom end. I think you can buy those things now for $650 or $950 with transmission and transfer case. You can check RRE's site for JDM motors.AWDriven.
I know a three people that have had some very good experiences with the LUK clutch kit. It comes with the pressure plate, disk, throw-out bearing and alignment tool. You can get them at Pep Boys for $130. They have been used in an NT, GST, and a GSX that ran 12.3's without issues. As for...
Hee, hee... I did it with a dremel and polishing tips. Bad idea on my part. If I had to do it again, I would take it to a powder coating place to strip it first. The only thing is, this is on a 1g painted valve cover. The 2g looks a lot easier.
I picked up an abused Talon that had oil coking most of the #2 port. It turned out to be the valve guide sleeve was missing and the hole was reamed out a bit.
You could have broke the cluth fork. If the pressure plate can't push back, the fluid doesn't matter. This occurs often with the old style clutch forks and ACT2600's. I replaced mine with the bigger upgraded version.AWDriven.
If it bothers you a lot, you can get the upgraded oil pump with the slanted gears. I don't know if it is worth your trouble, unless you plan on pulling the balance shafts.AWDriven.
Whining could be caused by many things. I know that the 90 DSM's had a straight cut oil pump that whines. This usually goes away when the motor heats up. For safety sake, check your oil. Also, listen around the engine to see if you can spot a specific location.
So, you are saying the car shuts off like you pulled the key, but there is still power. Do you mean that the engine stalls out, but the radio and stuff work.AWDriven.
When you pin it, aren't you eliminating the lateral movement. It sounds like a good idea, but I would probably slot it so it can move laterally.AWDriven.
You can, but you are risking a lot for the $200-300 you would save. I am considering building my own, but I own a Haltech which will do the controlling for me. I have seen a web site of some British guy who explains how to throw a kit together using old fire extinguishers and stuff.AWDriven.
Why don't you buy a USB to serial (9 pin) cable and try it. I have seen them listed on pricewatch for $25. I bought mine for $12 from computergeeks. Otherwise, send me a Greedy E-manage with the software and I will try it out for 6 months or so to make sure it works ok;)AWDriven
You wrap it real tight, almost to the point where it doesn't want to fit and screw it back in. The other two options, is to just leave it hanging out and plug the hole with a bolt or even a spark plug with the correct thread. The problem with this method, is that the heater circuit will burn...
Hz changes significantly when you hack the MAS. On a 2g MAS with three honeycombs removed (top and sides), my Frank 3 hits 2500 at 23 psi. It also makes a difference on what head, cams, VE, ..., ...AWDriven.
Did you wrap the rear O2 sensor with aluminum foil when you gutted the cat? The ECU checks the rear O2 to make sure the cat is working. It should have a different value than the front O2 sensor. If it is close to the front one in value, it will flag a CEL.myles: that method only works on...
Try unplugging the transistor pack, blowing the connections, and plugging it back in. Sometimes the contacts get a little dirty. A code 44 won't give you a CEL, because it is not considered detrimental. Other than that, it could be an intermittently bad coil or transistor.AWDriven.
With the AWD, the overflow tank is small. With my heat and the frontmount, my car will spit some fluid out while driving. Then, when the car cools it gets sucked back in. So, as long as the coolant turns off while cruising, you have enough fluid. However, you may want to add a bit when the...
