My cousin has a 2001 Saturn SC1 manual 5speed. I will not have a chance to look at the car until tomarrow but I thought I would post here and get some advise. I tried searching google but found nothing of importance. She on occasion gets a high idle after driving the car for a bit [2k in...
Just go to the dealer and ask for the synchros for your transmission. It would be best to take in your VIN# since some of those guys sometimes will not do anything without it.Also the new synchros from the dealer are revised so the teeth are "all the way around" now.
*UPDATE*The car has been fine since and nothing abnormal has happened. I still would like to know what would cause something like this. I tried some researching of my own and keep checking certain things on the car and im still stumped...I just want to know what happend for my own sake :sosad:
Did a search and came up empty handed this is the only thread I found remotely close to my problem.http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49258&highlight=stuttering+low+rpmMy problem:It happened last night [3/29/05] for the first time and then tonight again. I was cruising...
Well I get anywhere from 200 to 220 miles per tank or sometimes less depending on how I drive the car. And it usually takes about 11 gallons to fill me back up, so if I get 220 miles out of my tank Im doing about 20 mpg. Not bad if you ask me. I could do better but my foot wont allow it :notgood:
So I just smogged my 92 TSI AWD today and it passed very easily here in CALIFORNIAI have-550s
-evo 16g
-front mount with hard piping
-after market blow off valve
-S-afc2
-FPR set at 35 psi at idle
-no EGR
-no charcoal canister and no vacuum lines from soleniods on firewallI...
I was waiting to finish break in on my clutch before posting.I had an ACT2600 that I burned up. I was going to just get another ACT2600 but I decided to try out the SPEC stage 3 6 puck clutch. I so far like this clutch alot. It has a little more pedal pressure than stock but not as much as...
Did a search and nothing helped me...My blower motor does not blow any air at any of the speeds. It does click when I put it into high but thats it. It just clicks and does not blow any air. What I have done so far...-Check blower motor directly to battery and it works.
-Check fuses...
The rims you have on the car look 200x more better than either of those you pictured. Im a fan of the clean look and your car looks pretty clean to me the way it sits. The only thing I would change on it is the tire size. You need to step up to a bigger over all tire. Those you have on there are...
This Guy right here ;)...The first tranny I have was already torn apart and not rebuildable :( There was a lot of things messed up on it and teeth were shatterted everywhere. So at this point in time I am removing the one from the car so I will have two transmissions and plan on and...
Since you basically have it apart and since we were told the gears at the dealership are not that expensive why not just replace them? I am more than sure you will regret it later on. If you can see or feel the chipping I say change out the synchro or any other parts that appear similar. :talon:
What brand synchros did you use? Where did you get them? I am going to be attempting it this week and hopefully finish by friday.I had an extra transmission that I was told was good and is just horrible so I have to finish this one ASAP :thumbdown
How many of you have attempted rebuilding your own transmission? I have personally never done it and wonder how hard or difficult it might be? Whats needed? I am mechaniclly inclinded and have done rear end gears before and head swaps and many other things for my DSM and including many SBC's and...
Thats just the way tubro cars are. Its a fact of life. Thats why when you read post about people who check the stock air/fuel on cars and they say its running so rich. Its set like that from the factory so the car will run right even under the most extreme conditions. All you can do is...
I was considering CP pistons but when I called to speak to a representative no one would help me and they told me to call someone who "represents" them. Then that was that. I told myself that they will never get my business and I ended up with some wiseco's. Try calling them and getting some...
You should use a harness from a 90 unless you want to splice a bunch of things. ISC motor and CAS are just two things completley different from the 91-94. Oh yeah so are the TPS, PTU, Coil, and computer plug-ins.Just use a 90 harness and save yourself the headaches. The guy trying to sell his...
Get a Haynes manuel or something of the sort. Do not attempt tackling the job without one.About the balance shafts. You can not simply remove the belt and think it will be ok. You need a balance shaft eliminator kit. Check sites sponsors for some nice kits. :dsm:
Long story short, I took it to my uncle who is a mechanic he looked it over and was stumped for about a 5 mins then checked my boost guage seen I had 10 inches of vacuum and said my timming was off. I checked it and it was off 5 teeth . That solved the misfiring and the surging was the ISC...
The sidewall of the pistons melted. Not the entire piston. What happened was the oil filter housing has a gasket on the back side of it. This gasket got torn somehow.
story:
I was merging on to the freeway and I guess the last of the gasket came out of the car and all the oil shot out from...
Hey blue1,I replaced all the bearing in the bottom and and had the crank and rods inspected and everything was fine. I also had the block rebored and honed. I had the car back together and running the next weekend after this happened because its my daily driver. Since I have put 1500 miles...
I prefer the zeitronix wideband. If you have a laptop you can view and datalog on the fly for a cheap price, or you can fork out even more for the display.$279 without the display or
$399 with the display. It works perfect and is a good product.http://www.zeitronix.com/order/order.htm
Was that stud always missing on your exhaust manifold? On my 90 talon the stud was stripped out when i got it and was held on the car [epoxy] to make it look like nothing was wrong ...needless to say it fell out after driving a couple of hours and oil spewed out of the head onto the turbo and it...
I tried playing the fuel pressure a bit but it still misses and idle surges a lot. :confused:Im swapping in some BPE6ES plugs today because I have an extra set laying around. How could I check my computer to see if its gone bad other than checking for bad capacitors and if it "smells...
When I start the engine it goes to the 1500RPM range at idle and surges and just misses like you wouldn't believe. Once at operating temperature it idles 900RPM to 1500RPM almost stalling and missing every time.
All readings on the Pocketlogger look normal. I cannot get a proper vacuum reading...
I recently got mad phantom knock. Its my lifters. I need to buy new ones. But even in idle if i hit the throttle the knock counts jumps up to 15 or higher depending on the RPM. Higher RPM higher knock. Under WOT it automatically jumps to 43 :( im losing all my power from no timming and it sucks.
Well I tried the wastegate actuator from my 1990 talon and it does the same thing. I know its boost creep now. But why the slow spool up now? I use to get 20 psi easily before 4k rpm but now it takes a while. I tried adjusting the boost controller with the same outcome.*edit* i do not want...
Thanks for the replys guys. Yes I performed a boost leak test and have no leaks.I even did try highering the boost through the boost controller but it had no affect. It still did the exact same thing. I would go WOT and it would hit 10psi and build from there and make a full 20psi around 5k...
Its not fuel cut. Check car profile for mods.I had it set for 20 psi daily driving but its starting to get warmer again so I wanted to turn the boost to 16 and retune from there. Other than that nothing new has been done. Before it use to hit 20 psi right away now it does not. it hits 10 and...
I think my wastegate actuator is toast but I want to make sure before I start buying things I will not need. I by-passed my manual boost controller and hooked the wastegate directly up to manifold vaccum and it will not boost any lower than 18-19 psi [evoIII16g]. Does this mean the wasgate...
If this turbo can flow what the chart shows and can spool at a certain RPM [that pleases me] and make the kinda power im looking for and last 3-4 years I dont care if it was made in the 1950s. If it works it works and at that price im willing to wait for some dyno grapgs on what this turbo does.
No knowing until you try. I suggest getting a data logger off of Ebay for a couple bucks first. It will let you see whats going on with the engine and how it looks once you hit boost with that 20g.
I just said wait because it is exciting getting new parts but what good are they if they are not...
I see no problem in it I have done it before many times. Just remember dont to over expose your data logger to high temps. from sitting in the car on a hot day it may not like that. :|
If you know the dangers of not having supporting fuel mods then why did you install the stuff? IMO you should have waited until you had the supporting mods. 8lbs on your 20g compared to your stock turbo is a whole different ball game and you will need more fuel when the turbo spools even if it...
I am also interested in results after you install and dyno tune them. I am looking into upgrading from my Evo16g sometime soon. Hope to see some numbers soon :thumb:
