I started the car for the first time in a year yesterday. While it had been sitting previously, the timing belt looked very slack. Turned it to top dead center on the cam gears and the tension adjusted automatically. But after I started it yesterday and let it sit overnight, looks slack again...
Sent out my stock turbo for rebuild, he threw in a good condition 18g for 100 bucks! Comes with turbo lines and manifold. Ready to bolt up.This would be my first time modifying. I have much to learn about boost and its requirements. Engine is STOCK. Only modifications to my 97 GST is an ACT...
Dropped a friend at work and this happened suddenly. Sounds like it's in the valvetrain... has oil and coolant, grinding noise under boost :|Car starts and runs fine, makes an intermittent rough scraping sound at idle and while driving every 3 seconds. Like sheet metal scraping quickly- like...
Installed oem power steering rack, fluid in the reservoir foams and overflows when turning the wheel. Leaving the engine running and pouring in more fluid just gets sucked up fast. No leaks and all lines are tight.Any ideas? Whenever I try to bleed the system the reservoir just foams and...
After I did motor mounts! Been chasing this for 2 weeks. I have tried to do some electrical research but am very inexperienced with electricity! Only very basics known, I've been an apprentice tech and haven't touched much electrical issues so this could be a great start to learn.-Battery...
Stock 97 GST, Have been chasing this code for little over a week, let me give some backstory.- Only modification is a clutch job I did recently with ACT 2100 and ACT streetlight flywheel.- Fresh NGK plugs and wires with less than 5k miles.- Proper timing done 5k miles ago.- Boost leak...
Been a while! Hey, did my first clutch job and everything went well. Clutch is still a little rough and smells when you gun it, still slipping a little.Could a cracked flywheel be the culprit? I did not resurface the flywheel as planned, by the time I finished the clutch in my shop, the other...
Slipping in 4th, time to replace before it gets worse!Stock 2G GS-T, but like every starry-eyed dsmer I have higher HP goals in the future (long term project) of up to 300, no more than thatWant to get a ACT 2100 since I can just throw in an upgraded clutch while I'm there and not do it...
First time clutch job too! With future goals in mind, should I just upgrade now or is it too much for stock components? I do have pretty new master and slave cylinders if that is worth mentioning. Also seen in lots of old threads and other sites not to use Fidanza/other aluminum flywheels...
Had my DSM for only 4 months. Paid for a timing job, pulleys and all, water pump few weeks ago. Not comfortable enough to do that myself and risk bending valves. Good price, 1 grand flat. Various other things like tires and a new cat for smog ($700 😞) exhaust leak fix, and $800 behind tags, and...
Uninteresting thread. Wanted to thank anyone who's helped me greenhorn ass on these threads! If you are familiar with my user.profile you know who u are. Thank you for helping me learn and succeed.I'm not new to cars or driving jobs but my experience with hands on working and diagnosing is a...
Reference picture below. So....
-was told to put the shorter bolts near timing- UPPER TWO BOLTS IN PIC
-BUT, when I removed the bolts, shorter ones were instead in BOTTOM TWO IN PICDrain plug is in top right corner for referenceWhich location is correct? Had no problems so far at all with...
Trying to fix my always on brake lights and noticed this wasn't plugged in.... what is it? White plastic plug in the photo (warning: rust)for reference upper left corner- brake light switch
(97 GST) So super noob question here. Does anyone know where the two shorter bolts on the oil pan are precisely? About to put in a new pan for the first time, previous owner crushed it. I know I'll see the bolts as I take the pan out but pretty paranoid about it anyway, and wanna be sure I don't...
Brake lights wouldn't turn on when braking, replaced bulbs and now they won't turn off, LOL. Saw old thread here https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/fastest-way-to-fix-the-most-common-reason-for-brake-lights-notturning-off.505672/Mentioned putting a golf tee in the hole where brake light switch...
97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST, manual. Stock 97 GST ECU for Stock car. Posted this as a thread but was moved for some reason, need help.Idle drops so low that car almost wants to die while driving and in neutral... all other gears are good, normal RPMS. At a stop in neutral it's not as bad, 750...
Picked up a 97 GST stock ECU, I have stock 97 GST. I have never done work with ECUs before, I was told I could just take old one out, plug new one in, and ready to go, with no tuning required!Just wanted to make sure, if there's anything else I would need to do plz let me know, as I've said...
I was thinking the obvious which would be boost leak, but wondering about any other suggestions as to what it could be a while I'm at it. Under acceleration the car is slow, not just turbo lag but boost will not kick in, although I can hear the turbo whistle and the boost gauge works works fine...
It is mostly evos out here and very little Mitsubishi meets. Please let me know if you are familiar with any community/groups closer to the LA area. Socal dsmers come say what's up!
Sorry for repeat posts was recommended I start new thread. Before I replaced old battery, car had no power at all and wouldn't turn on. KEY NOTE: Day before, drove, shut engine off and immediately turned key again. No power at all. Car started very weakly 5 hours later. Only replaced bad starter...
I have tried to look this one up in previous threads but couldn't get an answer from other owners as to what their problem was... I have a grinding noise mostly in 2nd and especially 3rd gear at around 3000rpm when accelerating, or when at 3000 in general. Noise stops when clutch is pushed in...
Anyone have a website or recommendations on where to get a a full timing belt cover set? I have no cover at all and the lower, middle and upper parts on extremepsi would be $200+ combined. Don't like to cheap out on this car but feel like I can definitely get it for cheaper.
Replaced my master and slave cylinders one week ago, bled it, etc. Lost clutch pressure yesterday and found that my clutch reservoir was pretty much empty! (But not completely bone dry) Topped it up and let it run, clutch is working again. However I lose about 10%+ of fluid about every 20 or so...
Borrowed this photo from an old thread, wanted to know which screw is the bleed screw. Looking to bleed my clutch systems tomorrow. Also wondering where the 10mm adjustment is where I put the hose (to prevent air from getting in) connecting to a jar of brake fluid. Thanks
Newbie here, my clutch is sticking and clutch fluid was bone dry when I picked it up. Put in some brake fluid into the clutch master cylinder and pumped it but clutch still has no pressure, checked for leaks with clutch pressed in and saw nothing. Master cylinder looks like it's pretty new...
Newbie here, ordering parts but they only have cylinders for GSX. I own a 97 GST. Are they the same? I would assume so since the only difference between the two is FWD & AWD, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks!
