It is not likely that the mis aligned head would cause you to spin a bearing. I guess potentially the oil port from the head to the block was partially blocked off causing a higher then normal oil pressure which could help bearing fail. Dont really think that is reasonable chance to happen.
Shit im loading both my engines and heading to Marty this weekend with beer and fan girl compliments! Hehe my local machinist is pretty well known for being a bad ass but good lord they are slow..... 5 weeks so far waiting!
I have 2 thrust bearing, and a 95 7 bolt motor I am tearing apart and selling. If you need any stock motor parts, low miles let me know!I have a split thrust 7 bolt block. Cylinder bore are roughly 85mm. A rod bearing was installed incorrectly on rod #3. The mains, mating surface, and cylinder...
Hey Sam,I just pulled a front cover/pump off a 98 GSX engine. It is still in a pile of parts and uncleaned/unchecked. I am busy for the rest of the day but tonight ill tear it apart clean it and see if it is in good condition. The engine had 60k miles on it, and didn't ingest any bearing. Will...
Also to consider is that if you are using a 2g head with a 1g block, I dont think the CAS will swap. So unless you also changed the front cover/CAS set up, that is likely your issue. I think your ignition is inverted at best, potentially a lot more issues than that at worse. Also obviously DSMPT...
Its worn beyond use in my opinion. It is likely showing signs of not fighting tightly. It ingested something, probably parts of you bearing. I dont think you should re use it.Also I could be wrong here, but that fact that at least half of your oil opening were blocked off leads me to believe...
It is definitely a decent heat mark. The fact that it is pretty evenly spread across the rod, and cap I would almost guarantee that its gunna need some machine work/checked. I have like 3 different sets of 2g rods if you end up needing one send me a DM and I can send one your way for price of...
Oh for sure I don't assume everyone is OCD as I am. I definitely don't want to make it seem un achievable. The more time you take now though, the better you will sleep for the next 1000 miles you drive ;) At the very minimum I would clean everything that oil touches at least once super well...
Its all good brother, I'm currently doing the same thing, though the mistake wasn't mine, I am fixing it :) If you have not taken the time to watch Jafromobile's video on Youtube on the 4g63 assembly process you should. If you have, watch them again! I cant count the number of small things I...
Hey bud,The thing that keeps us all up at night afraid to sleep.... Did I mess something up on the engine assembly....... I am super sorry to see this and glad you sound like you are going to go the extra steps to get it right. I see you posted earlier a fear of wanting to fix it, and it fail...
Wow man its incredible to see people reaching WAAAAY back in the time machine and pulling some amazing motivation and work to us here in 2021. I dont think any level of thanks would make Ceddy know the amount of joy he has brought to many in the DSM community. It literally inspires me to see the...
I am not disagreeing with what people are saying about cleaning it out, however. With THAT much rust in the lines I can almost GUARANTEE you that the block has had some of it structural integrity compromised because of that rust. I dont know if id suggest spending all the time and money and...
Yeah he is correct above me. At the very least your going to need to disassemble and clean everything the coolant touched. A lot of the aluminum parts should come back clean with time and effort. However with the Head im not sure how you would clean out the coolant passages well enough. I...
The issue here being not so much JUST the block, but in fact EVERYTHING that coolant touches is likely need replaced. Oil Cooler housing, Head, Block, radiator, turbo, thermostat housing and sensors, over flow tank, heater core, all the lines. Im likely forgetting something.
I bought a genuine Big 16g recently and didnt realize it was an external WG off the O2 housing. I would like to sell, or trade the turbo+housing for an internal WG 16g. I dont care big, small, Evo as long as it is genuine MHI 16g. I can throw in cash, or take more cash on a trade or just sell it...
Heh you just said "swap out" made it sound like you were re using gaskets :) I am sure its just internet vocab and you meant you are swapping out with NEW ones :)
No offense taken at all. This is the reason I frequent the forums so that something maybe I think is obvious, can be scrutinized :)Let me try to clarify a little bit. The car has 60k Miles. I was going to buy it and fix it (stock rebuild) and try to flip it. I came to realize that if I did...
Hey bud I noticed there is a guy on Ebay currently advertising it for 1g chips only. Is there a reason this is done on 1g only now? Again my goal was to get in the car and have it be 99% "stock" even tho I have the 2.3 and the Big 16g. It seems after reading up on evo 8 Maf and the Evo Injectors...
My original goal was a Stock rebuild, and to replace everything possible with new parts. I literally got the un assembled stroker motor from a shop that was closing down. I could not of bought stock crank/rods/pistons/block than cheaper for what I got the 2.3. The 600cc injectors came with the...
Have you considered at all having a Discord server connected with the forums? I get the not being a fan of FB and many of the things that come with it. However Discord is usually very focused with people and there special interests. It is vastly different than the general mindset of FB users...
Hello friends I have done a lot of research on what my options on for my build.Quick history, I bought the car, a 1995 Talon TSW AWD with a spun bearing and was going to just do a stock rebuild. Got an entire 2.3 stroker set up (crank/rods/pistons) and a big 16g Turbo and 600cc injectors for...
Also, OMG i just read the thread on cleaning the crank journals.... Let me ask you here instead of hijacking that one.My crank had the balls removed and set screws already installed (im assuming this means it was cleaned) do you think i should have the shop remove the screws? Or would a...
Just noticed your in Kansas also ! I grew up in Independence from 1990-1995 Heh!! I took the block into the shop today and I think I surprised the guy with my questions/condition of the parts I gave him.He started off with the "Is it even clean?" I replied with a small giggle. I think I...
Awesome man, I was able to get my local Napa to press in some bearing for me for SUPER cheap. They usually do this on farm stuff in my area but I went in and talked to them and I think I payed 20 $ for 2 bearings pressed in. A local "race" shop or Auto shop may want to charge you more "for there...
I would say that if its the ONLY thing on your car you need fixed right now. Sure. That is a lot of money to fix a lot of small issues. You have 80% of fixing it on your own done. You will have to pay a shop to press the bearing no matter what. The rest there is no reason you cant do yourself...
If I could relax I would! Has taken a lot of energy and money to collect all these parts hehe so just trying to be sure im not missing something obvious! It was 15 years ago and I was 18 last time I owned one of these so just trying to make up for all my mistakes back then and do this thing right :)
Should I install the main studs myself before I drop the block off? What about removing the head studs first? I am just taking it in for inspection / measurement I was thinking I could leave the stock bolts in it for measurements sake?Id hate to put these studs in to just have to take them out...
Thats a huge relief brother thank you so much for checking on that for me :) ill be sure to mention to the machinist to take extra care of the alignment. With so much play in this thing I wish it was doweled.
the inside of the bore, as in the round part where the bearing will sit feel very smooth. The only real thing my finger hangs up on is where the little cut outs and edges are. The actual surface where a line hone would machine is very smooth/seamless. Its literally the width of the girdle cap...
So here is the gap one one side. It is pretty dam close to flush on the other maybe not exactly. This is the front side where there is almost no gap.Now i dont have the Main studs in or even bolted down and it can move a tiny bit to one side or the other but nothing seems to get them all...
Sealed bearings are bearing in my opinion. I cant help much on being sure you get the right ones. I would not be to worried if the ones you find are not OEM exact replacements.
Hehe you know its bad when you are spending extra money to just record yourself doing shit that has been done for 25 years :) I didnt scimp out on the camcorder either lol. Lets say it cost as much as my 100mm crank :)
I have been documenting every step of my journey so far and needed to unload 64 gigs of video off my SD card so give me about 30 minutes and ill link some HD video/pics :)
It should be the same girdle for the block. Its not the align boring that is not lining up. It is more so the EDGE of the girdle is not lining up with the blocks edge of the bearing slots. I am going to run out and take some pictures now. I have an entire another block so if this is an issue I...
SO i was cleaning one of my blocks getting ready to take it into the shop to get checked today. I noticed the Cap Girdle is not flush with each bearing. Its a 98 7 bolt block.
If you are looking at the bottom of the block on an engine stand, the OUTSIDE edge of the first bearing is flush, but...
Fully dis assemble it, clean everything well. Check each piece for damage. Replace any damaged pieces. Have a shop press the bearings in. Re assemble it yourself. Re clean it. Fill it. Use it.
Maybe paint it before you use it.
So the crank and the cams jumped timing? These are interference engines so unless some miracle, the noise you are hearing is a bent valve making contact inside the head.
Id be interested in the kit for sure! Have on on my Map performance parts list if we can work something out :) so far everything I have gotten has been second hand :) I have lots of photos and will be starting it up for the first time on video and going along the entire build process with a...
Well boys, after an insanely agonizing and long trip. I have her home. Still on the trailer but its home. I got the stroker crank/rods/pistons safely sealed and stored along with the fresh Block. Not sure if it was the 30 hours of drives in 3 days, or the sheer amount of stress, but I will say I...
Hey dude its cool to see someone your age taking interest in the car! Just dont be like how I was at your age and tear that thing to pieces! Good luck :)
