That looks space age, now I'm jealous. Ive heard some good things about tunerstudio particularly in the miata world and I know its decoded for 4g63. Mainly I need tuning software that isnt going to run me the price of the car. Never heard of megasquirt but I'll look into it.Sorry I said tuning...
I was wondering if anyone has any info about the speeduino/arduino standalone ECU and tuner studio software. Specifically how user friendly the software is, how hands on the ECU installation is.Does the board require assembly or come with a harness that can be soldered to the factory wiring...
As far as changing what the logger reads, I can make the advance go up but not down. I will try to set it to what the logger reads, as far as the balancer goes it reads as close to 5 degrees advance as my eyeballs can get it. Still not much change, I did realize that I was adjusting the mid...
I checked mech timing, is about as perfect as I can get it, I did notice that my belt, which is new, has roughly 3 degrees stretch/slack to it. Not sure if that will affect it overall or if getting the kevlar belt might fix that. I actually reduced CAS timing to 3 degrees instead of 5, figured...
Another thing I'm wondering, if I have the base timing set to 5 degrees advance, if I ground out the pin on the firewall, I assumed I would see 5 degrees advance on a datalogger, but I'm actually seeing 8 degrees. Is this normal? Or am I missing something.
Hmm if 14 to 16° is your average timing advance I wonder if maybe my car is adding to much timing initially, typically it starts at 22° and drops down to 17°. I could try retarding the cas slightly.
The problem is nothing I do seems to get rid of it. According to my wideband my a/f ratio averages 12.3 at that specific moment so it's not like I'm lean. In fact I think I'm maybe too rich. My mechanical and cas timing are perfect. I'm almost under the impression that its could be due to my...
I plan to get ecmlink in the future, for now its what I could afford. I do have the v.2 translator which can do a little better tuning but really i was wondering if 8 points of knock is going to cause problems down the line. Aside from a slight power plateau from the timing being pulled, i dont...
I have a 1g laser turbo, with stock injectors and 14b turbo. I've been using the gm maft combo with a datalogger and when I roll onto the throttle from cruise I get a slight knock ping as high as 8 counts the second the car goes into open loop mode. I've been thinking with the maft settings but...
Looks like a 16g but a better identifier would be the part number that's usually stamped on the compressor housing. That being said, it could the photo but that impeller looks a little chewed up to me.
If spool up it the issue, cam gears can help a lot as you can change the amount of overlap. Basically, in turbo applications, less overlap will increase top end power but also lag time while decreasing overlap will give better spool up but reduced top end power.
Another reason to have cam gears...
If you're good t welding I think itd be much easier to fix the fender part and then maybe look into building fender braces. Theres a forum about it on here somewhere but I have heard they do wonders for cornering and stability.
The fwd will need body mods to convert it to awd, the gas tank was put in a different place and I'm not sure if the tunnel is big enough for the driveshaft.
I'm glad you figured it out seems like we had the same idea just were thinking about it differently. if you have any pictures or your work you should post them.

Part of the problem of switching from AT to MT is in the starter relay operation. The AT energizes the starter relay closing the relay contacts to the starter. The MT has the relay contacts already closed (completed circuit to starter) and only energizes (opens the...
This is what I would do,
1) check the ground cable, there's a big ground that goes from the starter mounting bolt to the battery negative, black and yellow I think if that connected then awesome.
2) with a multimeter test from the starter main power, the big wire on the back of the starter, the...
When you bleed the valve lash adjusters DO NOT put paper towel or rags on the ends, just go very slowly, the rags can get stuck inside and plug up the hole.
As for the no start, check the cam angle sensor, it may have to be adjusted a little before you get it to start as long as it hasn't accidentally been flipped 180'
Well the big problem is the grinding, it's kind of hard to hear in the video. If you took the valve cover off it should be easy to see if any valves are bent as the wont come all the way up. That being said the chatter or grinding could be because the oil system hasn't primed itself yet since...
Finally after 6 years I got to put the turbo on permanently. Tweaking the maft was tricky but after 8 hrs reading the manual and another 2 driving the same road back and forth I was able to get it in some semblance a a reasonable tune with minimal to no knock. There is 1-3 counts of knock at 600...
The suspension was by far the worst shape mechanical system on that car. The shocks were completely worn out, the springs had been sagged and warped with heat to lower the car, the alignment was out and one of the lower ball joints had been replaced with a pressed in joint which left the hole...
Did you say you used auto harness on the manual trans? If so then then you definetly have to bridge your park/neutral safety wire together or run a new one from the clutch safety switch, assuming you have one. Also I hate to ask but did you check the actual starter to make sure it works.
FIAV is located under the throttle body, attached to the bottom of it to be more precise. Valve stem seals would give you an oil burn, not a coolant so that seems like an unlikely issue. You said you change the thermostat, did it make a difference? If not I would say, and this is my opinion, I...
If you aren't burning any oil your valve stem seals are probably okay, a little oil in the engine is normal as long as the pcv system is still attached properly.
As far as the thermostat goes all you can do is try it, and even if it wasn't the cause, it probably needed to be changed anyway...
If you aren't getting any oil and coolant mixing then it's not likely to be a head gasket. It seems to me like it's coming from the turbo. One thing I am wondering is what thermostat you have in the car, if it's too high a temp or faulty it might be building too much system pressure when the...
Some grade 8 or better bolts from a bolt supply store will hold pretty well and you wouldn't have to wait. That's what I used and they hold up great. Just make sure you have lock washers
I agree with 609dsm, these cars are notorious for vacuum leaks, but definitely start with a basic overall lineup, spark plugs/ wires, air/fuel filters. It would be a good idea to check timing while you're at it.
Yes you read that right, you can make a solid engine mount with nothing more that your original engine mount and two hocked pucks.First you'll need to remo e yourself engine mount or find an unused one.
1. Go ahead now and cut out that bushing in the middle. A wire bench wheel will make the...
I'm a little annoyed at myself for not posting here as I've been building this car. A lot of work has gone into this car.I bought this car roughly six years ago after a working on a 90 talon tsi with a friend. When I bought it it was in "barely driveable" condition. It could run and drive on...
I would say it's an issue, not only will you have improper drainage, it will also cause some heat retention in the turbo. That will mean longer cooldown times higher exhaust temp etc.
