Just because the "dimensions" are similar does not make them equal cores. Could be a crappy core design, vs density etc. A quality intercooler uses a good core (garrett, vibrant etc). A more dense fin design will yield better results than a simple bar/plate design. But to answer the op's...

Just about any kit out there will fit your needs. Just depends on how efficient and how much you want to spend. Vrsf is a great cost effective solution.
Composites are nice in the fact that 1: you dont need a perfect mating surface (mirror finish to seal), and 2: the HG is the fuse, that will blow before a rod goes through the block, head etc. However, they are limited in the amount of cylinder pressure they can hold, which therefor limits hp
Never had any issues out of a Wiseco piston. Have a few friends with some higher hp dsm's as well, they run Wiseco with no issue. If you have access to e85, higher comp pistons. Lower compression for lower grades fuel.
You have to realize that a nt motor is built for being na. A turbo motor is built to withstand more power. Build the nt block and you can hold some power.
Yes, I will be doing all the work myself. I will be building the engine. Isnt my first rodeo lol. Have a few friends into them as well. Been around them for quite some time. Goal is 700-750awhp (modest I know haha). Will get me through the summer, then its onto a a 10.5:1/alum rod build...
New guy here with a 92 eagle talon tsi awd. Bought it as a roller. Goals are a simple 700hp build, 2.0, manley/ross piston combo, s366 turbo, supporting mods. Car is a gutted 1g roller (alum door panels, no sound deadening, etc). Car weighs 2600 dry.
