  1. 18g Starion Turbo???

Starion 18g turbo (post #1)Ok, here's my dilemma. I'm looking at purchasing an 18G turbo from someone, and I've got a couple questions. I know the 18G isn't terribly effficient, but for the price, it's hard to pass up. The guy listed it as an 18G upgrade for a Starion.... it needs a...
  2. Bellhousing bolt on 6-bolt swap

    You're the bomb. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Bellhousing bolt on 6-bolt swap

Ok... I've got a 2g GSX, and a couple months ago, did a 6-bolt swap on it. The question... Only 3 bellhousing bolts go in (minus the starter mounting bolts). There is no place for the bolt closest to the firewall (opposite the one close to the front with the dowlpin) to go in in the tranny...
  4. Do you lose top end with a lighter flywheel?

Another little interesting piece of info. Back when DSMTalk was around, and when I was looking for the same answer, I got a message back from Taboo over there. Supposedly, what they were finding out that the lighter flywheel was pulling a lot of bigger turbos out of the effective boost range...
  5. Oil Leak from the back of the engine?

I've got a small oil leak, and over the last couple weeks I've tried my hardest to track it down. It seems to drip onto the ac compressor, and down onto one of the front axels. I've gotten as good of a look as I possibly can, and just CAN'T find it. Where could it possibly be leaking from...
  6. stock or act 2600 clutch

The reason leet probably said that is because these cars do the c-walk if you just look at them wrong. ;) I know... I had a COMPLETELY stock 95 GSX that walked on me 1 1/2 yrs ago. If the thing's gonna walk, it'll do it with or without a 2600.If you're really concerned about it that...
  7. stock or act 2600 clutch

I'm using a 6-puck clutchnet disc with a CFDF 2500lb Pressure Plate. The thing has stock pedal pressure, but is ultra-grabby. It's a really nice combo, but from what I've heard, you can't get pressure plate seperately from CF as I think they only sell it as a kit. When this setup wears out...
  8. clutch engagement

I just finished my 6-bolt swap, and I put in a 6-puck clutchnet (look for them on ebay - good stuff) disc, with a fidanza flywheel, and a CFDC 2500 pressure plate. The pedal pressure feels stock, and it doesn't feel harsh... it's just REALLY grippy. Before I had a 6-puck I thought it was a...
  9. People who have installed a turbo wing???

The 2gA spoiler is a 3 piece w/LCD. The 2gB (97-99) "turbo" wing is 1 piece I believe. You'd have to have the holes filled from the 2 side fender pieces at the very least. I don't believe the bolt pattern is the same on the center piece either.
  10. Clicking at startup

If the sound is coming from the engine bay, it's probably 1 of the 2 solenoids located directly behind the intake manifold on the firewall. They typically make clicking noises before the car reaches a normal idle. I just did a 6-bolt swap, and they sounded like they were going **ckin crazy...
  11. Low compression numbers on new rebuild?

Yeah, I followed the compression steps to the letter. When I tried it w/o WOT, it measured around 150, 153, 155, 155. After I went WOT, it bumped it up into the 160's. I'm assuming that I need a bit more time to let the rings seat, like you guys are saying. But I also remember someone saying...
  12. Low compression numbers on new rebuild?

I don't have a damn clue what is going on here. I followed the proper break in procedures, and this is what I've got. 160, 165, 165, 165 compression numbers. It would seem ok except for the fact that I rebuilt this thing with 2g pistons. Shouldn't the compression numbers be up there around...
  13. Clicking solenoids & high idle on fresh 6-bolt.

Figured out what was going on. It just hit me last night that the TB that I had gotten when I was doing the swap, had no BISS screw, so I had to take the one from my 2g TB, and put it on the 1g TB. Magically, as soon as the idle was adjusted down to it's normal speed (750rpms), the...
  14. Effects of lightweight flywheel? [merged] light weight lightened aluminum ACT fidanza

I was having a hard time stating exactly that ;) If you're able to keep the turbo w/in the effective boost range, then there's no probs. If the RPM's drop too fast, it might be hard doing that.
  15. Clicking solenoids & high idle on fresh 6-bolt.

I ran coolant to the TB, so I don't think that's it.Yeah... those are the solenoids (evaporative emission purge & egr solenoid valve)... but why are they clicking like that? It wasn't run in a LONG time, but would that be causing it?
  16. Effects of lightweight flywheel? [merged] light weight lightened aluminum ACT fidanza

You'll notice that the thing free-revs a lot quicker. I've got a 7lb Fidanza, and the damn car revs like an Indy Car. Very sweet. However, I've heard from others with 20g Turbos and larger (I'm only running a 16g), that the stock flywheel actually HELPS their performance because the revs...
  17. Clicking solenoids & high idle on fresh 6-bolt.

Well... I started this brand new fresh 6-bolt up, and it seems to be running pretty strong. The only hangups that i've encountered and need help with are:1) A high idle. The engine seems to start off at 1000rpms, but as soon as you hit the gas or let it warm up, it idles at...
  18. Line questions and intake line questions

Thanks dude... that's exactly what I was waiting to hear.
  19. Line questions and intake line questions

Found most of the answers.1) They were from the Boost Control Solenoid and would connect to the stock T25. Because I'm not using the T25 anymore, and am using a boost controller,I can unplug the lines, and control the boost via the MBC. The BCS lines can be left unplugged.2) Still...
  20. Line questions and intake line questions

as for question 3... I meant where does the "thin" line go?
  21. Line questions and intake line questions

I'm soo close to getting this 6bolt swap running, and I'd like to start it up today. But I have a few questions that I'm clueless on.1) There are 2 vacuum lines coming out from a selonoid underneath the coolant overflow tank. One has a T connection. Where do these connect up to?2)...
  22. Oil housing AN Fitting.

Post your findings when you get them! I'm having a similar problem.
  23. Hi, i was thinking about buying a GSX

And even then... only SOME of the 95 ECUs were EPROM. Not all. If you plan on going with a chip (such as TMO) or DSMLink, then yes... you'll need that ECU.
  24. Hi, i was thinking about buying a GSX

The main differences between the 2g model years are the body styles (pull up a couple pics of a 96 & a 97). There aren't too many differences, but if you're concerned about something specific, let us know or do a little research.Yes, a GSX is the All-Wheel-Drive version.Do the 210...
  25. Mounting external oil cooler

I'm in last stages of finishing my 6-bolt swap, and the engine that I used was out of a '90 Laser, so of course, i got the external oil cooler & tapped oil filter housing. As to be expected though, being that my car's a 2g instead of a 1g, there's no stock place to mount this oil cooler.... and...
  26. PS Belt w/6-bolt swap

I'm just finishing up my 6-bolt swap in my 95 GSX, and I'm having problems getting the power steering belt to fit. It's feeling like 1/2" too short now. I think it's because the PS pump bracket is attached to a mount instead of the block - moving the power-steering pump farther away (making...
  27. Balance shaft removal problem

That was a long time ago, wasn't it? Yeah... well when I got the engine back in there... it spun a bearing shortly after, so I JUST NOW dropped my 6-bolt in there... so I gots more problems than the balance shafts now ;) WIRING HERE WE COME!But yea... getting them back in wasn't to...
  28. what did u guys do after crankwalk any tips

I got a 6-bolt... following the trend I guess. Why not? I got the whole engine for $350, threw 2g pistons in her. Now the question is... will it start when I turn the key? ;) I'll let ya know in a couple days.
  29. Installing brand new stainless steel valves

I'm rebuilding my engine, and the time has come to tackle the head. I decided when I started this to upgrade the cams, valves, and install new 3g lifters. So here's the question...The valves I bought were standard size, and the valve seats look decent. Do standard size valves usually just...
  30. Engine Break In, breaking-in, motor break-in [Merged 10-6]

I've still got the stock injectors, so that sounds like a really good idea. I was kinda nervous about what to do. The s20g doesn't really give much kick until about 3700-3850 RPMs from what I've been told, and it doesn't boost creap, so that sounds like a good suggestion for the break-in...
  31. Engine Break In, breaking-in, motor break-in [Merged 10-6]

Nope, me being a cheap dumba$$ sold the turbo to put towards the new one. I still have the injectors, but I'm leary about using them with the s20g. Last thing I need to do is go lean and nuke the engine.
  32. Engine Break In, breaking-in, motor break-in [Merged 10-6]

Ok first let me start off by the general disclaimer --->>> I did do a search, but all the engine break-in questions really revolve around just rebuilding the block and picking up where they left off as far as mods.I'm doing a few things to the car while it's been down... 6-bolt swap, fidanza...
  33. Installed 96 7-bolt in 95

I don't think there is any difference in plug placement w/the 95's and 96's. I think it only changed in '97.
  34. Cheapest Place to Buy ....

Ahh I was a fool and didn't see someone just posted it! ha :)
  35. Cheapest Place to Buy ....

I don't know if anyone mentioned this seller, and I know the whole ebay thing doesn't fly with some people, but this guy CONSISTANTLY has eagle rods for 4G63 engines (6 and 7 bolts) including the arps for $299 w/free shipping. I haven't dealt with him yet (I'm using big rods for now), but I've...
  36. Starion turbo [Merged 9-7] turbocharger

  37. Used piston question...

Now before you tell me to go ahead and search, I did, and nothing pertaining to my question came up.I have an easy question for you guys.... I'm getting a 6-bolt engine, and I'm wanting to rebuild it... but anyway... here's the dilemma. I'm wanting to mate some 2g 8.5 pistons to the 1g...
  38. Possible pistons slap?

Ok, just got some compression numbers. let me know what you think.Cyl #1: 90psi Cyl #2: 115psi Cyl #3: 120psi Cyl #4: 150psiI don't have blue smoke coming out the tail pipe, and it doens't stall out, but man is there noise. Sounds like it's coming from the top of the engine...
  39. 1/2 a tooth off on timing belt?!? No adjusting helps!

Thanks man. That would be of great help. What is going on is... when I apply tention to the tensioner pulley, it will tension the belt on the left side of the engine, and the belt still has a little bit of slack between the crank gear and oil pump gear. And if I tighten up the slack between...
  40. 1/2 a tooth off on timing belt?!? No adjusting helps!

Ok, I've readjusted this damn timing belt like 4 time tonight, and I can't figure out what the hell is going on...!Ok, I follow all the instructions on the vfaq and even my chilton's manual regarding the timing belt change. EVERYTHING goes smooth RIGHT UP until it comes to tensioning the...
  41. 2G Crank position sensor code

Damn, I'm sorry guys. I forgot to let you know how it turned out. My dumbass installed the sensor backwards. rrrr.... brainfart. I pulled the belt cover the other day, and looked at it... "That doesn't look right." Flipped the sensor and sure enough, started right up on the first try. BUT...
  42. Possible pistons slap?

Well, I pulled the timing belt cover, and found that I have the exhaust cam off one tooth... GHEEE! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!?!? I know... i didn't rotate the cam forward one tooth before applying tention to the belt. But, could that actually make that horrible metal on metal sound?
  43. 2G Crank position sensor code

My oil's looking fine. As far as looking in my spark plug holes, it's REALLY hard to see down in there as it's pretty dark. It gets louder the higher the rpm's. I was scared to take it past 1500 because of how loud it would get. No, it's not a lose bracket or alternator. It's definately...
  44. 2G Crank position sensor code

RRRR!!! I was R-E-T-A-R-T-E-D! I put the sensor on backwards, you know, so the little circular plate wasn't going through the sensor? I flipped it, but now of course I'm dealing with something that sounds like a piston tapping the head! RRRR! Damn it! I'm hoping I just have the belt off one...
  45. Possible pistons slap?

Let me go over this just so that I didn't do it wrong the first time...The timing marks on the cam gears line up right... how would I check the rest of the marks? Remove the belt cover (below)? Now if I understand correct, the marks on both the crank sprocket and the cam gears don't line...
  46. Possible pistons slap?

RRRRR!!! Ok, here's the deal. After a month of on again, off again work on my '95 GSX, I finally got the new engine in and running. HOWEVER, it sounds like crap. Ok, here's some background about the engine: It's also a '95 4G63 engine, from an AT car, and it has had it's balance shafts...
  47. 2G Crank position sensor code

I have a feeling that it's not the cam angle sensor, because on a 95-96, it's actually on the inside of the valve cover, in other words, no way I can really screw it up short of shorting it out somehow.Does anyone know the voltage that should be going through the crank angle sensor?
  48. 2G Crank position sensor code

Question for someone. Which of the accessory pullies are REQUIRED for the engine to start? What's happened is, I swapped the shortblock of my engine (crankwalk victim), and when I tried to start the engine up, it just kept cranking and cranking, but not actually starting. Well, I had my...
  49. Oil pressure gauge sensor questions [merged] oil sender

Ok, I'm pretty stumped here. The oil pressure sensor broke off in the hole (in the oil cooler), and I have no idea how I should try and get it out. At first I was thinking an EZ out, but I'm a little worried about drilling into this thing risking damaging threads, and also about getting metal...
  50. Alternator bracket

that picture was awesome! I'd been looking for like 3 hours for a picture that would show me that! Thanks!
