Ah, well, it was just a joke. The "TURBOCHARGER" on the Ebay turbos always amused me. It makes me start imagining if every car part said what it was, including obvious ones like the steering wheel and cup holder. In aviation that probably wouldn't be that unusual now that I think about it.
Like I always say, the best turbos say "TURBOCHARGER" right on them. Would you by a brake rotor that didn't say "BRAKE ROTOR" on it? Or a power steering pump that didn't say "POWER STEERING PUMP"? Didn't think so...
While it may seem aesthetically right, your plug wires are ran wrong. The little arrows in the valley are there for a reason and they guide you to keeping one pair of wires away from the other. 1 and 4 should be on the passenger side of the rubber grommet and run along the top of the valley. 2...
Most people just wing the nitrogen cycle thing. It's far more important for fish with water temps above 74 degrees. But it does basically apply to any animal that will be spending a great deal of time in the water in an aquarium. I didn't learn about it until I was about 25. Then I was like...
I've had a turtle for literally 30 years now, since I was ten. THIRTY. I've had girlfriends who were younger than my turtle.I've also had some pretty elaborate aquarium setups. I don't know why your turtle died, sometimes purchased animals just die- especially exotic ones. However, I can give...
Awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. Lift is about what I measured with calipers. They may be too big for me. I went back to a stock intake (from JMF Race) and will be running either an Evo 3 16g or 20g (I have both, down from a 6766). I have HKS 272s on the shelf. I'll try the FP cams first...
So I got the P/N off my previously unknown "Stage 4" cams that came with my car. 101-FP4R2-8. At least it seems like it should be a 2 at the end. I did a fair bit of searching and found that cams called "FP4R2" indeed do exist, and some people have used them, but I couldn't find any specs...
I work on my car so I should definitely watch out.The issue with "shops" is that there are only basically three kinds...1) Brand specific shops that are pretty good but charge NEAR dealership pricing for work (like 0-20% less usually) but WILL NOT do anything custom. They'll replace your...
I bought this new in September but decided to go bigger. It has never been bolted up, just stored. The only not factory-fresh thing about it is that I *carefully* bent the wastegate port slightly to clear a Forced Performance 4" intake (intake not included). This cost me $799 but they are on...
Mine is just a recirculating style. Their design is pretty compact compared to some Ebay units, that being said my car had a T4 with full 3" v-band discharge. Needless to say, the dipstick tube, and a bunch of other stuff has been fought with and they lost.
I just bought one.In reading the forums on this subject I am sure people will probably say "U SPENT $320 ON A $40 PART!?!?!?" But let me tell you about the reality of those $40 parts. Before I begin, I'm not going to get on some soapbox about supporting the U.S. economy or "innovators" because...
Hotter, higher pressure gasses expand faster into cooler lower pressure areas. Which would actually contribute to creep. If you wrap your manifold and turbine housing, all else being equal, I believe you'd have worse boost creep because you've made the system more efficient and increased the...
As pointed out on Facebook, there are two pictures that make it appear as though the nipple on the turbo elbow is connected to the valve cover breather port. Is this the case? Inquiring minds want to know.
It'll be fine. Who honestly only ever buys one turbo anyway? Can't rob myself of the opportunity to change turbos later. This car had tons of modifications on it when I bought it, I'm reversing or changing a lot of it. Kind of a weird car- still has A/C, PS, cruise control, stock radio, etc...
My compression tester always said around 118-122 for 1Gs at our altitude and 124-128 for 2Gs. Everyone would always say, "oh, it's rebuild time," even though the engines ran perfectly. This was the cheap kind of tester with a rubber tip that you just hold in place. Same engine would often have a...
After being absent awhile it's weird to me that there's so many questions about the necessity of balancing in the DSM world. I also have a 1965 Mustang- on our Small Block Fords we balance every rotating assembly, every engine build. It's not even a question. Doesn't matter if the crank is...
I'm going to be taking a look at this crank this weekend. It's been a LOOOOONG time since I even saw a DSM crank and I doubt the seller will let me bring it to a machine shop for a once over. He said it was from a car that spun a bearing but that he was able to polish it out. Is this an OK...
Oh yeah, can't forget that FP now (as of this week I believe) has a limited quantity of MHI Small 16Gs for $499 that they will upgrade to HTA68 for $400, for a total of $899, or $100 more than my E316G. Talk about the wrong time for me to buy a turbo.
Yeah, but I don't want to pay the price of a new Green or HTA68 right now. I'm talking about used Green or HTA68s.I'm just going to run the 16G. That's life.
I'm a fan of buying (and selling) used parts, it's a good part of what makes this hobby fun for me and the reason why I have more of an affinity for the DSM community rather than my other car community (1965 Mustang) where people generally buy once and change their minds less.I needed a turbo...
My dad is constantly citing the Dino when he muses about buying a Mondial (it makes the Dino look like an F40), perhaps the worst Ferrari. I always try to talk him out of it, especially because he always finds the bargain car with broken parts you'll never, ever find. Or, you know, if the car...
Just saw two non-running DSMs in the last week for $6500. I wasn't paying attention in 2016, but given that in around 2004 I passed on a MINT low miles 1gb for $3500, I'd say they have started to go up. If you've been paying attention to other makes models you've noticed a trend for performance...
1G DSM MAF Translator, missing top cover but I am told this is a standard electronics project box you can get a replacement cover for.Looks like a 3" GM MAF to me. Some superficial blemishes on the honeycomb. Some couplers and clamps included.$75 +shipping
Why do you disagree? Some high torque bolts might be an issue but I hardly see how it matters to set a hex-key in most bolt heads. Some of the hex-head bolts on our cars came with a crosshead screwdriver provision, which is nice.
I believe FP, at one point, had a Disco Potato in their FP30 turbine housing that some autocross guys used. It spooled fast and was good enough to run low 12s or high 11s in a race prepped car.
The plot thickens. Found this post by the original owner regarding his dual fuel pumps.Either way, since I'm going back to a single pump, it's getting removed.
You guys are totally correct! Found this in the boxes of spare parts that got dropped off today. Looks like a water/meth injection pump to me. If it was cleanly installed I might leave the switch for possible future purposes, but since it's just hanging there I'll probably just pull the thing...
Perhaps at one point, but it's not presently on the car. I'm getting several boxes of parts tomorrow, I'll look and see if I find any meth injection stuff. He was a DIY guy and bought the car new. It could have been something he had at one point but took off.
So I just got my first DSM in several years and things are slowly coming back to me but this car is modified and the builder is no longer with us from what I've heard. In my sort of inspection I've found what looks like a pressure switch. I don't know what mod or device the car has that would...
It is a turbo engine. Right now it has a PTE 6766 on it and made 708hp. Soon it will have an Evo III 16G on it and make half that with any luck. Thinking about trying Royal Purple 10w40
So I recently bought a built DSM and unfortunately the original owner has passed away and the new owner knows very little about the car including any sorts of info on the engine build like bearing clearances and so on. I basically have to guess at an appropriate oil but I, myself, have not even...
