It's still officially winter in Michigan, but somehow it reached 70 Degrees today (woot!), so I went back to the parts car and pulled the main body harness.I learned a few things during this process, and one of the things I learned was that it is a LOT of work turning an RS into a GS. 😆 Is it...
I just completed my annual trip-odometer reset on the Eclipse. The car is in storage now (and has been for a few months), but I put more than 500 miles on it this year! Most of those miles were making memories with my wife and son. It was a hard year as far as job instability, but those miles...
The standard RS wasn't equipped with a spoiler.By 1996 the three-piece spoiler was part of the "Preferred Equipment Package" which added air conditioning and alloy wheels among other upgrades. That said, an RS with a spoiler was pretty common after that, but your 1995 wouldn't have had one...
Sad to hear. 😞 Going to miss you guys. RTM is/was a joy to do business with.I just placed another order, and once again I've been able to get some really hard to find parts from you. Thanks for that.Happy retirement!
Weirdly enough, it doesn't look like they did it that way. I checked three OEM bumpers, and as many diagrams as I could find, and never found any screws there. One of them was on a 1998 GS parts car that I'm pretty sure never had its bumper removed... but it's always possible. The grommets do...
For the 2gb bumpers (1997-99) that lower plate is part number MB914136.You can find more info on the 2gb front bumper cover and its plates and components here. :)
If that's the OEM color, it would be Saronno Red with the paint code R87. Here is an example:
For the stock paint codes and colors for the 2G Eclipse check out this thread. For the Eagle Talon R87 was called "Radiant Red." More info here. Here is an example:
The tailgate trim clip shown here? Part number MR189485? Unfortunately I haven't seen any new old stock in years. You might try posting a wanted ad in the classifieds. It's possible someone still has one or two they'd be willing to sell?
Unfortunately that happens a lot these days. New Old Stock (NOS) parts inventory for these cars is rapidly depleting around the world. Even some of the fasteners and clips are getting hard to find. One of the sponsors for this site, Boosted Fabrication, makes brackets for our cars, but they...
If you need more part numbers for the front bumper cover or its components, I made a visual guide for that. 😁Front Bumper Cover and ComponentsAnd for the non-turbo air guide (that clips into that lower bracket):Non-Turbo Air Guide and Components
Tonight I drove the Eclipse to its first ever car show thanks to encouragement from @Widgmaster, and boy was that AWESOME. The show was at a Culvers restaurant, and they do it every Thursday. My son LOVED it! That little dude is starting to get into cars-- especially the Eclipse. I'm raising him...
2GB (1997-99) Eclipse Front Bumper Cover & ComponentsThis guide is for the North American 1997-99 model year Mitsubishi Eclipse ONLY.Note: I cannot guarantee that every part shown is authentic OEM.Disclaimer: this info may not be comprehensive or exhaustive, and may contain mistakes or...
1997-99 Eclipse Non-Turbo Air Guide
This guide is for the North American 1997-99 (2GB) Mitsubishi Eclipse NON-TURBO MODELS ONLY.The air guide is a one-piece plastic duct that sits behind the front bumper on non-turbo Eclipses (RS and GS). It helps direct air to help cool the A/C condenser and...
Thanks @Dericsh and @BLACK'98DSM I really appreciate that. :)Well, due to the weather, we missed the official cruise last night, so we charted our own course tonight instead. It didn't have the density of a usual cruise, but classic cars were still in good supply, and we had an absolute blast...
MB814979 was used on the early 97 models. I'm not sure what changed between that emblem and it's replacement (MR311003), but it should work.If you need any more decal/emblem part numbers this guide has them. :thumb:
The front bumper three-diamond emblem for the 1998 model year, at least for the North American cars, was MR311003.Not sure if that will help you find it or not. Most (if not all) of the parts for our cars are discontinued and they can be difficult to find.Sometimes you can get lucky though...
I was furloughed from my job earlier in the year, and money has been tight, so there still isn't a whole lot going on with the car, which is obviously a huge disappointment to me. There is a lot I want to do.I've been working on my blog and YouTube channel in the meantime, and tearing apart...
420A Motor and Transmission MountsThis guide is for the North American 1995-99 model year Mitsubishi Eclipse RS & GS COUPE (Not Spyder Convertible) and 1995-98 Eagle Talon (base) and ESi models equipped with a 420A Engine ONLY.Note: All parts shown are New Old Stock (NOS). While I tried to...
Thanks @IHeartMyHonda I updated the guide with the information you provided! Also, it looks like MR717617 is the RS tray and MR708208 is the Arm Rest Lid, so that's how I listed it.I haven't found the numbers for brown, if anyone can help with that, I'd really appreciate it!Thanks again...
Center Console and Related Components
This guide is for the North American 1995-99 model year Mitsubishi Eclipse and 1995-1998 Eagle Talon. The center console fits between the front seats. Its components and part numbers are listed below, followed by some videos on how to replace the insert...
Not much going on with my car lately but I've been making slow but steady progress on the parts car. 😁
Most of the interior is out, and now I'm working on the front end.It probably sounds strange but I'm really excited about the plastic duct behind the front bumper. I've been trying to...
I have that problem too. The buttons dont push in right? My mechanism got jammed somehow and is in a perpetual state of being locked. The key wears over time, so it's difficult to get it to line up correctly to unlock it. I try all the keys I have, and push the key in slightly, try to twist it...
If you wouldnt mind taking a photo of them, I'll include it in the guide. I'm sure the backing is fragile, so you dont even need to remove them from the car if you dont want to. Even just a close up of the logo would be helpful.Otherwise I think the driver side would be ideal to photo. That...
I'm trying to do some research on the OEM floor mats, but I seem to have hit a wall.I have an original floor mat (passenger side only) that I found in a 1998 Eclipse GS. Besides being old, dirty, and tired, it is different from the Mitsubishi authorized mats that went out of stock a year or so...
A More In-Depth Look
I plan to update this thread to showcase various differences between the RS and GS coupes as I find them.Disclaimer: this info may not be comprehensive or exhaustive, and may contain mistakes or errors. If you see a mistake or something missing, feel free to drop a...
The parts car is coming apart. 😁 I'm learning a lot through this process. I feel like everything that is easy to pull is out of the interior now. :thumb:Slowly working my way to liberating the dashboard.
Pretty much anything OEM you find now will be in used condition. You can find OEM bumpers at auto recyclers, online marketplaces, and sometimes on ebay. Just be aware that that it can be very hard to find one in an undamaged or unmodified condition.Front bumpers are large and expensive to...
The temperature was over 50 degrees today, and the forecast for tomorrow is snow, so I pulled all of the trunk trim after work tonight. No broken tabs or mounts! :)I still have a lot to do before I pull the hatch and the doors. I want to completely gut it before that happens since whatever...
The weather has been unseasonably warm, and I'm not letting it go to waste. 😊I was able to get the seats out today!I've been looking for these seats (2GB GS gray cloth) for a very long time. I can hardly wait to get them installed. :)
Slowly but surely I'm disassembling the GS. 😁I worked out a deal with the auto recycler and paid for the whole car... or rather, I purchased all of the parts on it, and I have some time to get them before it gets recycled.I'm working against the weather and short winter days, but it's coming...
@BLACK'98DSM is right. It may seem hard to believe, but Mitsubishi used different harnesses throughout the car based on equipment, trim level and model year.No RS was equipped with power mirrors from the factory, so the door harnesses didn't get the connectors.
I started pulling parts off that GS this weekend. My first pick was the spare tire cover because a previous owner spilled something on my original one.I realize this isn't typically visible, but I love little details like this. 😉Speaking of little details, the GS had a cargo net with a...
My favorite auto recycler just got this 1998 Eclipse GS in!The car is beautiful in person, with a bunch of amazing parts, but being from the north, it does have rust. The doors and hatch are actually in great shape though, and the interior is amazing!I've been looking for a car like this...
Thanks @vanilla gorilla. I appreciate the comment :)Thanks @BLACK'98DSM. Yeah I am not really sure what caused it. If I was a betting man though, I would put money on it having been run while it was low on oil. The bad head gasket caused oil to leak out of the head, and I feel like the...
Not a whole lot happening with the car at the moment. It's in storage with 97,105 miles on it, so I added 232 miles to it this year, and 490 miles overall. This means I drove it nearly as much this year as I had the two previous years combined. Not going to lie, that felt really good. 😁As...
The three-piece spoiler was standard on 2ga models (1995-1996), and remained the standard spoiler on 2gb (1997-1999) non-turbo models.@IHeartMyHonda is right, the only major difference between any of the 2G three-piece spoilers is that Spyders had a body-colored cover instead of a third brake...
I found a 95 (manufactured in 94) Eclipse GS parts car that had two cargo nets in it. Both of these nets are different than the one I bought a few years ago for my car (the installed one), which has a little fabric tab installed at the top of it...Are these all OEM, with changes in...
It's tarp time again.I lay tarps down in my garage to keep the undercarriage of my Eclipse as dry as I can.I read where the temperature shifts in the Fall can cause the pavement to sweat in an uninsulated garage. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to insulate my garage and seal the floor...
I spoke too soon about the fluid leaks being resolved. Despite it being new, the oil drain plug that came with my aftermarket oil pan was leaking, so I replaced it with an OEM one. So far so good. 🤞I still have a small transmission fluid leak though. The culprit seems to be one of the...
