Bringing this subject back from the dead, to give my personnal experience on O-ring block situation. I decided to go with a copper O-ring with NO receiver groove and mated it with a cometic head gasket. The worst decision I have ever made, 150 miles later the headgasket is blown and oil is...
did replacing the wiring harness work? what about the new timing belt? I just experienced this same problem myself, cylinders 1 and 4 are being fuel washed. spark and fuel was tested. DSMlink v3, verifies fuel pump flow and rpm signal during cranking. just tested spark wires 10mm magnecores 4.5k...
After you pushed the new axle seal with the axle itself, did the axle seal sit flush with the trany or did it stick out 1/8th of a inch like others were saying? Funny to say that because the drivers axle seal never leaked on me or anyother DSM (ive worked on) and those axle seals cup "out" a...
The seal has been leaking for years since the time shep rebuild it back in 06'. Ive installed it very carefully, and also have used seal installers. ive installed multiple axle seals in other dsms and also axles succesfully. I have also installed hundreds of other seals in different...
did you ind a resolution for this problem. I as well have been battling the exact same issue. i keep installing new axle seals flush against the tranny and they still leak.
i would use a small bearing or small nut to drive it in, usually i use a impact gun to get in ,,,i have a electrical 18volt makita impact....remember the back of the stud has to be flush with the hub
jackson machine i also heard from someone, that o-ringing the head if ever need be to separate the block and head again , basically the cylinder head would be junk afterwards because the surface was disturbed far enough that it cant be resurfaced or o-ringed again because too much material...
I had a short to ground inside my fuel pump assembly causing the ecu not ground the injectors, i believe mpi relay was involved in picking up the high resistance and the ecu recognizing not to ground the injectors. look for shorts in the mpi system.
Yes a shorted fuel injector (s) wiring could cause this exact same problem. I had wired up a safc years ago the wrong way. injector wire #4 was hooked up instead of the proper ground, which made the car turn on normally than shut off after acouple of seconds running.
I couldn't view your post on dsmlink forum...but it seems to me if you have no knock it seems you have more space to run more timing? 18 degrees seems a little bit in the midrange what you can run...I have tuned some cars to about 23-26 degrees of timing with very little or no knock this was on...
I believe you are getting the whole series wiring and parallel wiring confused..
series wiring is when you place a light bulb /motor/switch/resistor etc. right smack in the same path of current.parallel wiring is
branched off to another object ... so the instructions are correct.
have you done anything to the car in modifications in the last year or so?
The MPI relay plays a huge factor in cutting off spark. I had one neckbraking one when the fuel pump's power wire inside was touching ground, causing the relay to cut off spark.
Don't worry about the extra wires sticking out of the new 91 harness. There are about 4 wires coming out of it that are extra. the 91-94 chassis has a extra plug I believe for ABS.
I am not sure about this. I left those wires alone and my car run's perfect.
Chuck this one to the DSM gods. The problem was the arm the tensioner rode on. It cupped in so bad it made the timing belt run out of track.WTF
thanks big woo for all the tips. I hope you guys out there learn to check this before installing a new belt on!
I dont believe I have a 2g tensioner pulley, how would I tell the difference between the both of them ...
Check runout on the cam gears that sounds like a good idea ... What's the spec on that? Also when I check this out again I am going to bring my friend that originally teached me how to...
1. yes the cylinder head has been resurfaced before, it has 272 hks cams along with the rest of the fancy valve train2. I dont believe the housings for the hks cams were aligned honed. The place that rebuild the head and block usually just does a touch up clean and then pats you on the back...
I have done about 10 timing belts and have not encountered this odd problem yet. Everything seems allright and the car idle fines (except the surging) but the belt tends to walk left towards the spark plug area about 1/4 of a inch which is chewing up my timing belt. I know for sure this is not...
1990 awd with rewired supra pumpon the connector side of the wiring ( towards mpi relay) the SOLID BLACK wire has 12v when the key is turned towards the ignition side.Shouldn't it be the BLACK/WITH WHITE STRIPE wire that has 12v with ign on?So of course the pump test connection does...
i have also been at my wit ends with both of my dsms. 90 awd tsi and 95 gst with 6 bolt. First of you have weak compression indicating the hard start. It would not be your CAS because your ecu is firing all 3 items fuel pump, injectors and also transistor. Good luck battling the demons because I...
becareful that might be grease for electrical connections, to prevent rust and corrosion. You clean it out and reconnect it and see if that works but if doesnt replace or repair the component and make sure you put some electrical grease back on it.
Normal idle should be 18 - 20hg vacuum.
When you have unmetered air leaking out , like a boost leak even at idle. The ecu overtime adds fuel to the LTFT to compensate for the unmetered air leak, The IAC motor does not have enough time to catch up to the ecu commands so causing your idle...
How are you guys diagnosing the CAS problems? Is there a voltage available or drop test you can do? How about a ground test or resistance test? let me know , right now my 90 tsi awd with a 92 wiring harness is having a no start problem. I have 165 compression across the cylinders. I tested the...
I am very concerned on my ARP washers hitting and slightly bending my Manley retainers. Not all of them but about 4-5 especially on the 4 corners. I had to force the washers down so I can get them flush against the head. I have not yet finished the motor but I was wandering if you guys ran into...
I see you put a freeze plug with jb weld, where the front balance shaft used to be on the block side. Is that really necessary? I just plugged and jb welded the front case.
simple recipe with my experience for 12's
255 walbro pump
ngk wires and plugs
hacked mas with k&n filter
boost gauge
boost controller
safc
turbo back exhaust at least 2.5 inch
race gas
I love it when people blame little problems with their engine swaps. First of when you do a engine swap be prepared to replace everything. I mean everything from your plug wires to the washer on your oil drain plug. Oh yeah and your idle problem might go away if you do a leak down test. And or...
24mm wrench / take off the battery and you can easily take it out and check it, afterwards you can pin point the problem. A bad knock sensor would retard your timing dramatically causing breakup as soon as you hit boost.
synonix hopefully that was not soppused to be a sarcastic comment towards me right. First off I am no rookie in the dsm world. I have been doing the dsm thing for 4 years now. Back in the days dsm guys used to buy VAFC instead of SAFC because they were cheaper. There is no write up I could find...
Do all the wires have to be connected so the SAFC screen can actually turn on . first I had the safc not turn on, so i "returned it" now i got a vafc and it still doesnt want to turn on. I have everything wired up except for the in and out put air flow wires. I always thought that every single...

this is the easiest way to do it. loosen both the top and the bottom fittings with 19mm and 14mm wrenches . with a razor from the bottom of the car cut the rubber hose in half. unscrew both the bottom and top of the hose ( at this point they come out easy). at auto zone/ pep boys / lappens etc...
not a newbie just trying to save a couple of bucks . I have the opportunity of buying a used 2g gsx downpipe for cheap. I was wondering if it would work on my 95 gst. Then I could just let the guys at the muffler shop take care of the rest.
a good set of 225 / 45 /16 toyo proxes 4 or yokohama avs 100 same size ... these 2 companies just came out with a brand new tire to replace these 2 and they are supposed to be superior (traction wise) i forget the name of them but they are a good option.
what makes you say the 6 bolt can handle more horsepower. the 7bolt has the exact same capabilities to handle horsepower. You can say one thing though the bearings in the 7 bolt block/crank wear out radically quicker causing the chances of crankwalk. I swapped out my 7 bolt with 50.000 miles...
heres one way you guys might not know , how to tell the difference between a 6 bolt and 7 bolt.. if you take a look at the exhaust manifolds stud fastener lugs the 7 bolt ones are almost twice the size of the 6 bolts.
I am sick and tired of shutting off the engine and then turning it back on so it can stop misfiring. To make a long story short my 95 gst 6 bolt misfires after, easing of the gas and also after climbing over exactly 3500 rpm. I am pretty sure its not my coil pack/wires/plugs. The CEL is of...
i just started tuning my friends 94 talon. the weather does change the way the car wants to run. at day time my friend runs 13lbs. of boost with no sputter, backfire or cutoff. but at nighttime the cold dense air makes the car run more lean which then we would have to richen it up at mid and wo...
anyway congrats man. and shape ive seen your car in action at new england dragway. it definetly hauls ass. i have no personal experience with the evo316g (only the big16g) but damn is that turbo efficient. i am continually impressed with that turbo every day. congrats guys :thumb:was...
Many of the new england dsm crew were running in the 11's this season with the evo 16g. Its amazing to see these accomplishments with minimal supporting mods. thats why im hoping to see 11.7xx with my setup. stock suspension  you must be jumping all over the place
last and final suggestion...dsmlink 2...this is all you need to diagnose all those 1g in 2g problems... you need this device it would tell you everything that is going on...
ok i have the slowboy 1g kit also and let me tell you i hit about 260degrees many times ... get yourself a slim fan ...after that you are going to be all set
good luck trying to find a place that even does caster/camber ... most places only do toe...trust me i am a tire tech and i never see the alignment tech doing caster/camber... ask for print outs all the time...best thing to do is come back to complain your tires are still bended inward or...
