  1. Interesting fact about DSMS..

TIL my 5 year old is an F5 tornado. To be fair, I suspected as much.
  2. On the 2g eclipse gsx exhaust how many sensors does it need? Also if it's out in the rain can it hurt it?

Under the hood of your car, in the front by the radiator, you'll see the exhaust manifold. Below this will be the turbo. As you're facing the car, to the right of the turbo will be the O2 housing. There will be a sensor in there. That is the front O2 sensor. It's the one the ECU uses to...
  3. On the 2g eclipse gsx exhaust how many sensors does it need? Also if it's out in the rain can it hurt it?

Ok, so the rusty chunk on the bottom of the pic is the cat. Those two bolts will bolt up to the downpipe. Two bolts = cat to downpipe connection. Three bolts = exhaust to muffler connection.Just behind the cat, you should see an O2 sensor bung. You will need a good O2 sensor in there. It...
  4. On the 2g eclipse gsx exhaust how many sensors does it need? Also if it's out in the rain can it hurt it?

If you have a picture, it wasn't attached.Do you have a cat back or just the cat? I.e. is it about 18" long or several feet?If it is just the cat, there will be two bolt holes on either end of the cat. The cat back will have an O2 sensor bung. There will be a spot on the bottom of the car...
  5. On the 2g eclipse gsx exhaust how many sensors does it need? Also if it's out in the rain can it hurt it?

There are two sensors, but the first is in the O2 housing. The second goes behind the cat like you figured out.The cat should be fine, even if it was in the rain. Make sure no critters got in there, though.
  6. 1G Pre-made intercooler piping for stock intercooler

No. The 1G style BOV has a flange that you can see on that kit. 2G's were plastic and had about a 1" beaded lip instead of a flange.Honestly, not what you want to use at much over stock boost.
  7. 2G E316G Fuel Pump

Thanks. Sounds like upgrading the return line is way overkill for my needs. Probably the feed line, too.
  8. 2G E316G Fuel Pump

One last question: at what point do you need to upgrade your return line? The bigger the pump, the bigger return is required, but there must be a practical cutoff where the stock hardline can't keep up.
  9. 2G E316G Fuel Pump

Thanks, everyone, for an informed and civil conversation. I really appreciate it.To summarize:Wally 255 with AFPR would probably meet all of my needs with an E316G, even on E85. But it might be close on E85. 340LPH pumps that are "rated" for E85 may or may not last if you actually use E85...
  10. 2G E316G Fuel Pump

Thanks. This is exactly the sort of information I was looking for. I have an adjustable FPR and 'link to control the injectors. Currently on the stock 450s, but I have some 1050 FICs I'll be putting in.We have E85 out here, but most likely I'm going to stick to pump, if only because the E85...
  11. 2G E316G Fuel Pump

So I'm looking at upgrading from the stock 2g fuel pump. Back in the day, your choices were Walbro and, well, that was pretty much it.Three are so many more options now. What's the current best for an E316G? I'm not looking for huge amounts of power and I have an afpr.EDIT: I've done my...
  12. Anyone tried this Cam Degreeing kit?

Are you offering a dsmtuners.com discount? Willing to ship?
  13. 1gb 4g63NA. 24 hours of lemons video

Nicely done. Looks like you're holding your own through the corners against the V8s. Are you setting up specifically for Gingerman or are you going to go to other tracks?Based on my LeMons experience, you're better off making sure your car is reliable and then work on the suspension rather...

  15. Loose V-band clamp ?= Blown turbo/oil in the intake?

I forget the color exactly; it was well over a year ago.I take it you're trying to decide if it's the HG or turbo? I've never lost a HG, but the easiest way to tell if your turbo is shot is to pull the LICP. It will be full of oil.It did and didn't stop after the turbo. I emptied the...
  16. Loose V-band clamp ?= Blown turbo/oil in the intake?

Yow. That was like 18 months ago. The turbo was borked. Not sure if the band clamp had anything to do with it, but yeah. It was shot.-M
  17. Real bad misfire, PLEASE HELP PLEASE

It would seem so.If I were you, I would measure the injector impedance for all of the injectors. That would tell you if that one was burned out and if you had any others on their way. (I think the ohm readings are in a tech article on here or in the vfaq...) Then you could move that...
  18. Real bad misfire, PLEASE HELP PLEASE

Do you know which cylinders are not firing? The fact that two are out suggests that one coil is not getting the signal to fire.-M
  19. Real bad misfire, PLEASE HELP PLEASE

Do you have a SAFC or some other tuning device? I've seen SAFC wiring come loose & short things out at the ECU and cause misfiring on two cylinders.Of course this was after swapping out coil packs, balast resistors, just about the entire ignition system...-M
  20. First Log, 1G 10 lbs E316G

    Ok. Found a loose vacuum line and checked timing. Timing was at 5* BTDC. Here's the new log:Tim. TPS MAS RPM Knock 25° 100.0% 666.7Hz 3125 3 25° 100.0% 717.1Hz 3156 2 24° 100.0% 786.3Hz 3219 2 22° 100.0% 855.4Hz 3281 2 21° 100.0% 918.3Hz 3344 1 21° 100.0% 981.2Hz 3438 1 21° 100.0%...
  21. First Log, 1G 10 lbs E316G

I'm at 5200 feet, so slow airflow doesn't really suprise me too much. We've got less air here...You're right, though, set the timing correct & see what happens. Thanks for the help.-M
  22. First Log, 1G 10 lbs E316G

    Ok. A bunch of stuff came up, but I've got the log done. Weith111, I think you're right, my timing seems off. At least there's not much knock...Tim. TPS MAS RPM knock 37° 27.5% 301.9Hz 3063 1 34° 37.6% 415.1Hz 3063 1 30° 49.0% 509.5Hz 3094 1 29° 62.7% 585.0Hz 3188 0 28° 75.3% 647.9Hz...
  23. First Log, 1G 10 lbs E316G

I wouldn't rule out base timing being off. I just bought the car and the previous owner did things differently that I would have. I checked it before, though, and it looked right but I might have had a bad angle on the pulley.I didn't get to make a run tonight or recheck the timing. I...

Will do, probably tonight or tomorrow.-M
  25. First Log, 1G 10 lbs E316G

I'm going to be either using a custom eeprom or DSMLink once I have her running the way she should, so nothing in the way of fuel control just yet. I had the battery undone, so the trims were at 100. The ecu should add some more fuel on it's own, I would think. However I did think that the...
  26. First Log, 1G 10 lbs E316G

I'm new to 1G's and I'm trying to get the car running right before I start turning up the boost. I've got a 6 bolt 1G with no balance shafts, running the stock 450cc injectors, with a walbro 255 and afpr set to 38 psi. The boost is stock at 10# and I'm running an E316G because the stock 14b...
  27. Dynoed my GSX

HP doesn't come as easily up at altitude. (just for the record, Parker isn't at 8200 ft, it's closer to 5200...) If it makes you feel better, the altitude hits allmotor cars harder...I'm doing something similar with a 1G. At 8lbs on a E316G with good compression, I made 135hp, I forget...
  28. Aftermarket oil pressure gauge reads 100 psi

That is helpful. The previous owner did a number on this car, so the factory oil pressure and coolant temp gauges are out. I managed to rewire the oil idiot light but I wanted more accuracy than oil pressure/no oil pressure...-M
  29. Aftermarket oil pressure gauge reads 100 psi

Cool. At what point do I start to worry about oil getting past the turbo seals? The reason I ask is I bought the car and about 100 miles later, the 14b blows. Still, a good excuse to get an E316G. I cleaned out the intake/ic/etc., but I know there's some oil in there still. I don't want to...
  30. Aftermarket oil pressure gauge reads 100 psi

Not to bring a thread back from the dead, but is 100+ psi ok or should I do something about it? I see about 20 at idle and 100 (or more) at WOT. I have removed the balance shafts. The oil is on the high end, maybe a biscuit over the full mark, so that might be causing some high pressure...
  31. Ordering evo3 16g: different ones?

No kidding! I'm still bringing the car back, so I want to take my time. This car has had every possible corner cut so I don't trust much on her. And the stock wastegate actuator opens at 8 lbs. The good news is no creep even at 8 lbs, but that does translate to an anemic 135 awhp at 5280 or...
  32. Ordering evo3 16g: different ones?

I got my E316G from turbochargers.com. Came fast works great. I'm only running 8 lbs on a 1G manifold and a 3" turboback with ported O2 housing. (Still need to upgrade my fuel system but the 14b that was on there blew...) The exhaust housing is unported but I do not creep. I figure that may...
  33. What are the symthoms of a blown turbo?

My 14b just went out like two weeks ago. Maybe. Pull the intake do a boost leak test and while you're in there check for shaft play. Synthetic oil burns a very light blue, so it might look whiteish. For what it's worth, when my 14 gave up the ghost, other cars thought I was Spy Hunter...
  34. electric oil pressure gauge install [Merged 7-7] installation hookup wiring

The stock sender is 1/8 BPT. 1/8 NPT (like on the autometer sender...) will thread in about two turns or so. Personally, I don't trust that sort of connection and I'd rather do it right, so I'm getting an adapter. You can get them from egauges.com for $6 I think, but the shipping is ~$12 or...
  35. Loose V-band clamp ?= Blown turbo/oil in the intake?

I recently bought a '91 Talon AWD and after fixing a bunch of stuff I figured I was done until I started putting on performance parts. Then driving home from the gym one day I started smoking out of the exhaust. The intercooler's got oil in it and the 14b has shaft play. I swapped in a E316g...

  39. Clutch Acting Weird

That's what happened to me when I was losing fluid. Mine was a blown SS cluch line but the symptoms would be the same for leaky master/slave cynlinders too. Each time I hit the clutch I'd lose a little more fluid until it was gone. I'd check your cluch fluid level...-M

  41. oil puddling in 14b

Easy! They come in the new turbo!;)Have you done a compression test yet? Are you seeing smoke out of the exhaust? My turbo blew literally on wednesday. I started seeing smoke, I checked for shaft play but my fingers were hitting the sides of the cool scroll so I thought there...
  42. Who lives in Denver?

You get more snow in durango than we do in the front range. I have never had a problem because of the snow. Except for shoveling it, and that says more about me being lazy than about the snowfall...:thumb:-M
  43. Who lives in Denver?

I'm in Fort Collins ('bout a hour north of Denver...) and the whole colorado scene is pretty good. Lots of knowledgeable & helpful people.Check out www.codsm.org and rmdsm.org to get a better idea...I grew up out east and bounced around out there for awhile (Ithaca, NY, Pittsburgh...

  46. "Cars" movie is a must!

I saw your other thread and rented AC, and it looked great, but the story felt cobbled together to me, like it didn't translate to english well or they cut out big parts. Looked great, though, especially those motorcycle fight scenes...LTCG was surprisingly bearable in this movie (IMHO)...
  47. "Cars" movie is a must!

Watch the scenery. The ridge behind the town is the silouette of the Cadillac Graveyard in Amarillo and most of the big mesas are old 40-50's vintage car silouettes.I thought it had a slow start, but finished strong. Every frame was a work of art (and took 17 hours to render, according to...
