1cleangsx, can you believe I still haven't installed the trans I bought from you! Boils down to my having a second back surgery. All healed up now the car is in the air. But, before I swap trannys, I found some rust (more, concerning rust) that I must deal with first, then it's all new bushings...
Dericsh, I am in Louisiana. I live near Lafayette. I travel to the State Capital Dragway or No Problem Raceway every now and then to race. Currently I am pulling my transmission that I messed up and installing my backup transmission. Also, while the car is down, I am installing new...
Very nice man! :hellyeah: I am just about to install the 5 speed I bought from you. My car hasn't been driven since I busted 2nd gear. Then, I'll be sending the busted one to Jack's for a rebuild. Did you just get the basic work on yours at Jack's or did you get it upgraded? I'm glad you are...
Before I went back to the two stock fans, I painted them flat or matte black. The blades are no longer white and when people look into my engine compartment, they don't notice. They notice everything else just fine, but they just glide over the fans without comment. I hope they aren't laughing...
You are quite welcome sir. It's just my experience though. For others, they may run on 2 aftermarket fans all the time. I can't, unless it's winter here averaging 50s and 60s with a front or two bringing teens. Heck, we even got snow this year. :rocks:
I have an FP Green and FP race manifold with same wastegate as yours and I use the stock fans with no issues.Every time I tried a pull&pull, push&push, or push&pull combo, with aftermarket fans I ran hot. I bought the highest cfm fans I could find.Even running my factory p/s and a 12" pull...
I fell in love with and bought my first DSM in 1992 right off the show room floor - a 92 Eclipse GSX which I never modified. Nothing else on the road looked like them - they just looked fast. I didn't have to modify. I could walk away from my buddy's new Toyota MR2. His was a 4 cylinder, 2...
Here is what I am seeing offered now. Please, if you have time to spare, let me know which you'd choose with my setup and why. What yall have taught me is changing the cam changes the power band. Since I am looking for more torgue at low RPM and with some added benefit up to 6500-6800, I may be...
@pauleyman, am I being over cautious? I was in Colorado full time and there you can easily find Galants, Eclipses, Talons etc. all over the place in yards whether pull-a-part, u-pull-it, etc. All of that and not to mention many of our cars popping up on CL constantly in CO. Arid climate. Now, I...
@We're on Boost, I am either in Fountain, CO at 5634' above sea level running E85 or 91 octane with various ECMLink v3 settings for each or I am where I am now, Louisiana at 3 feet above sea level with E85 or 93 octane. I go back and forth. I even have Link settings for mixed E85 and gasoline at...
I apologize for not being clearer. Regarding 24psi at 4,500 rpm seems like pretty slow boost for a mid-size turbo, I should've said, by 4000 rpms the Green is on its way to 24-26psi which it hits [30 psi] at 4500 and holds [30 psi] until 7000 rpms. Still, does this seem normal or abnormal? I...
What you liked with the intake only HKS 264 is exactly what I am interested in. I know that to benefit low end it often compromises too end. But, I shift at 7000rpms always. The HKS 264 was made for increasing power from ~<2000 to ~6800rpms. That's exactly where I'm looking for power.I have...
Bought new, never installed. Still in original box. Box is a bit worn around the edges. I've been moving it around and just hadn't had time to post it.NOTE: This does not show vacuum. I use the one that shows vacuum because I won't ever see more than 30psi. I like 25-26psi.Paid thirty...
I can build an engine, but would I take on the task of a transmission? Not after doing my homework. I will leave that to the Experts at Jack's Transmission in Colorado Springs, CO.I'd certainly change my own cams. No problem there. Regarding the aftermarket cams, emissions increases, mileage...
My perfect goal, if it is possible, would be to increase torque down in the lower rpms when the Green hasn't started building boost yet. But I don't want the Green to perform any less than it does now on the top rpms.
There is my current setup:
Low torque and horsepower until about 3500 rpms...
Marty, I am jealous! Three 90s! Seriously! Well, did adding cams to the 14B change things? What did you notice? Was the cam made for power in low/mid rpm range? Do have cams for the HX40s? I knew someone had the 16 valve symphony. What's amazing about our 1g staut (sp?) rods, pistons, etc. I...
I liked (via the liked button) your information, but not your situation. Been at hard times too. Racing a Dodge Challenger Hellcat at the track and pulling away from him hard until the crank sprocket bolt backed out (happened to another member here), the sprocket moved out, the balance shaft...
Thank you Widgmaster. Your Eclipse is unique too. Oh, and I like the boat. We have a small bass boat and I love being on the water so much, I could live on it.XC92, I have a busted 2nd gear right now so it's under the car cover. I bought a used standard from someone on here. I will be swapping...
Thank you 1990TSIAWDTALON. I've read of both a FP Green and Holset 35 running a 10.7 quarter mile. Like your son, I run large injectors. I don't need to run 10.7 to be happy. I couldn't afford the drivetrain upkeep. I'd be very happy with 11.5 like your son. He and I have very different exhaust...
Twicks69, I do have a tuning setup, done professionally. ECMLink V3 tuned by Mac AutoSport, running Speed Density setup for 91 Octane. Thereafter I've added some different tunes myself so that I can run 91 octane or E85 whenever I like. Fuel pump is 255, injectors 1250cc, large intercooler and...
I've heard people say a car is only as fast as its slowest part. e.g. Very well, strong built 4G63T but with ONLY a 2 inch exhaust. The exhaust would certainly be the problem in that scenario. Now, as to my car, I have an FP Green which can push 57lb/min. I have a stock Throttle body, stock...
I am a diehard fan of DSMs. My first was a brand new 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. The All Wheel Drive and 14B Turbo spoiled me. Over time I got into Mustangs. I sold the Eclipse above for a very clean, very, very fast 69 Mustang Grande with the 351 Cleveland in it. Also owned a 1996 GT...
While I'm not at your psi or hp, I am at +30psi and +415awhp and have been for many years on the same Felpro head gasket. Most of what I have read about here and other sites is that they are great. I use them everywhere else too. Haven't had a problem with any. With folks running Felpro at...
Amazing build thread. Awesome pictures, much humor and no bashing = the best, long, thorough thread I've come across here, and I have read many. From an 18g, to another, to another, etc turbo. Man, I wish I had the money to do that. You say you hate the job, but I love mine and am always broke...
Where you enter 735, I use nothing. I have the exact same injectors. Every time I tried to enter 735 or any number for that matter my car would do as yours was doing.
As motomattx said, definitely check the crankshaft bolt (the large center bolt). I personally torqued mine down a couple of years ago after having the same sound from my car. One day a Dodge Challenger wanted to race on the Interstate. He hammered it and so did I. I accelerated for maybe 2...
Please follow 2g2slow97 and I by forwarding this information to your state's drag strips. They are now going to add this information on there website and publish it in there newsletters and flyers. Whaaaaaaat!
Second official in my State has responded. He's on our side!Dear Mr. Alleman:Thanks for writing about the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue, and I am a proud cosponsor of this legislation.As...

As for me, it was buying my Talon (in Colorado) with all AC components removed and my numerous trips to Pull a Part to obtain the parts, then reassemble them on my car. Required oil cooler location change and fabrication because of the larger than stock radiator. Now in Louisiana, I am loving...
I have to agree with you BLACK'98DSM! Red Demon, the 6 second 1/4 mile, 5 speed Eagle Talon TSi AWD will have you considering a home equity loan to spruce up YOUR own ride, well, at least it's that way for me. Two (2) seasons and 2 4G63T engines say it loud and clear - we are blessed with some...
While I know this started as a TOB thread, I want to comment on the timing side noise in your video. Your video there sounds exactly as mine did when I bought my car. Guy had just installed all new Gates timing components, including blue belt. I tested the noise by taking each belt off and...
You are not alone my friend. While I live an hour South, I come there to race at the track. There's a good one in Pueblo as well and of course we can't not mention the Pikes Peak International Raceway. There are several groups in your area and other larger, more inclusive ones such as Rocky...
I have just gone through the exact same problem. Crank sprocket bolt self-loosened ruining a recently refreshed head and many other expensive parts. Bent all 16 valves, gouged cams, destroyed lower timing cover, Gates blue timing belt and balance shaft belt. I begin putting it all back together...
IMHO you should pass. I wheeled the underside of a 69 Mustang from Minnesota but only because they are rare. DSMs aren't as rare, at least in Colorado Springs. I recently bought a 90 Talon for myself and 96 Eclipse for my wife in a short period of time. There's a lot of salt here in Colorado...
Check out this 360 degree Mitsubishi magnetic mount for your smartphone or tablet running Torque, which is an excellent tool for data logging and viewing real-time data from your DSM ECU. Regarding the specific question of manifold pressure, I find Torque Pro very accurate, as with all its...
