Damn i would have take out the whole transmission. Thanks for writing back but honestly I don’t think I have that kind of $ or time atm. Plus it’s summer in Florida so temp are like 100 and it’s in the hot sun away from my tools :/ . What’s the worst case scenario that would happen if I put new...
No, honestly I’d rather do it right the first time with the head off already. How much does a block weigh? This would be my first time messing with a transmission other then a transfer case.
Naw it’s just derbies. Your right, but honestly tho I would like to just get this thing on the road. Then when I get another car, tear this engine down and put a brand new 1 in
Originally took the head off because of what I assumed to be bent valves. I did a compression test before I took it off and the #’s where mad off from each other. I’m not ganna lie it looks like just chipped carbon but idk I can kinda see where it might be a little “TINK” from a valve.
I've been on the site for awhile just never got the chance to introduce myself. My names Tyler I got a 96 eclipse RS, nothing too special but its my little work-on car sooo. Took the head off it a couple weeks ago, now just waiting to put it back on to see if it will run. Wish me luck :thumb...
Wow just checked how much they cost. $300 just for the valves I don't even want to see how much guides cost. :( could you please recommend any 420A heads on here. I like this community and would like to give back to it
So I'm looking at the Brian crower site for some valves and they have some different sizes just wondering which size to get if I just want to run everything basically stock. Just trying to replace old bent valvesPic below vvv
Ended up getting the back timing cover off pulling the cams that way. So far got the head off and next step is the valves, hopefully I didn't mess that much stuff up and get to see this baby run
Perfect I didn't even realize the clearance for that wow, Ima go with option 2 and let y'all know the results. Might make a DIY guide since I can't really find one anywhere and this a interference engine so might come in handy for others
So basically slip the cams through the timing cover once I get them out the head? Thanks for the heads up on the brackets I got a service manual but they don't go into full depth but the diagrams help
I got a impact but I'm trying to get the head off to get to the valves so to me I'm thinking the cover is in the way of some bolts but idk for sure. And I just thought of another step in the path, how will I now if I'm putting it back on right I don't want to have my timing all messed up for...
Was wondering how I get the back timing belt cover off? Do I have to take the cam gears off + plus the pulleys or do I just take the head cover off and slip the camshafts through the back timing belt cover. Never really been this deep in a car before so I'm literally stumped and don't want to...
So just stripped my baby 420A naked and was just wondering how to get the back timing belt casing off
would I need to take the cam gears off, its about the only thing I can think of to get it off also with the tensioners of course. trying to get the head off if that makes any different
Just went through the vfaq page but didn't see anything about removing the head I found a couple of thread but they help but not as much as I need help with I guess lol. I might try the service manual way
No need for disputing over something so silly not what I intended of this thread. But max do u know of any guides for removing a head if not a place where I can get a shop manual as thier is no dealers close by me
So this is my first time working with engine components, I just have a few questions and if someone can point me in the right direction for a step by step guide or something of the sorts.First off is everything pretty much bolt off or is their some stuff that's more into it then that.Second...
Yea just trying to check if the valves are bent before I open her up who knows maybe it's not the valves so o just want to check first. It's a interference engine, I didn't get to doing the test today but maybe tonight or tomorrow because I have work
Thanks Brembo for getting back to me so fast I guess that was a stupid question but it's better to know than not... Just one more thing does it matter about the spark plugs like I was saying in the 2nd question? Sorry just never really messed with an engine before and I don't want to open up the...
I got a 420A Eclipse that the timing belt slipped about a year ago and already put the belt spot on to the best of my knowledge. I'm just now getting around to working on it.I'm trying to do a compression test on it tomorrow I just need to know if the car "HAS" to be at operating temperature...
Hello yall, so I got a 420A that's been sitting for at least a year due to the timing belt slipping also this will be my first time messing with internal engine components so bare with me if I don't know everything . I'm pretty sure the valves are done because I put the timing belt back at what...
