we just moved to a house with a garage a week ago and i cannot wait to get the car into it's first garage, man. i still need to go get jack stands but even at that we need to clear out the garage of stuff that we've moved... trust me man i want to take the trans off it and see what's wrong with...
before i tear into i'll watch video's on how to tear it down, and try to familiarize myself with how it works. i also have a chilton's manual for 90-98 eclipse's so that may come in handy as well.i almost feel like i should just.. try to find a gsx. if i'm gonna be putting this kind of money...
okay i'll get some jack stands and start getting the trans off on one of my days off. and if you mean saving for weeks for good stuff, then yeah i have the budget! poverty spec. i didn't try it in any other gear besides first, and that was right after it happened, after i pulled over. i haven't...
Is it worth fixing? If it is just a shift fork, the trans will have to come off anyways, so I’ll double synchro 2nd while I’m in there. Is this a bad omen for this transmission, and should I invest in a new one instead of fixing it? Thank you so much for your time.
hey guys the other day i had my 98' eclipse spyder out on the highway. had just been cruising for about 30-45 min on the highway when a mustang pulls up on me and we do what car guys do on the highway. i had it in 5th and jetted up to probably 120, and it stayed in 5th after that for about...
for anyone still here wondering, the main thing to look at is if you want a 6 bolt motor or not. i have a 98 but just have it as a street car for now. in my research i haven't noticed anything that would deter me from any year or model dsm, as long as it's 4g63t! i would be happy with any of...
i will figure out a boost leak test and do that before getting back to you guys. it has relatively new ngk plug wires, but i might as well swap those out and put new plugs in it while i'm at it. i'll get back with results soon hopefully
Hey guys, I just got the car back and running after it sat for a little over 7 months. I had a stage 1 SBC installed and now I notice it's breaking up in 2nd and 3rd sometimes. It seems to happen randomly, but only when I stab it. If I roll into the boost gently it'll be fine and rev all the...
hey guys i adjusted the clutch and it grabs great!!! it was adjusted too far out. had to have my dad get under the dash cause im too big but i pushed the slave and couldn't push it... then we adjusted it till i could and now it's mint.
pauleyman! we adjusted the clutch and it grabs hard as f*** now and it's not in the friction zone at high rpm or anything. the clutch was adjusted too far out!
my dad will be here this weekend and we're adamant we're gonna fix this thing!!! i'll definitely refer back here when he gets here saturday. we want to do everything right the first time, and hopefully it'll be the last time. so we're gonna start with adjusting the clutch. there's nothing we...
i am happy to get back with you guys and happy to hear any advice or wisdom you guys have to offer. i am way late to hop on the DSM train, and there is literally no one in indiana that will work on them.i will start with adjusting the clutch. i really love this car and i take it seriously, but...
i gave it to one of my dad's friends and paid him to do the install. i don't have a garage or else i would've done it even though idk what i'm doing... but when i dropped it off and when i picked it up it was leaking boost bad. i fixed that, and now i see that the clutch won't grab the flywheel...
i want to love it but the clutch won't grab the flywheel! it goes into gear just fine but when you let the clutch out it barely moves and the engine just revs and you go nowhere.
that's exactly what i thought. it's not dragging, so idk why it would be the hydraulic adjustment. i'm gonna start there anyways. the thing is though, he never touched the flywheel. he only made sure it was smooth and it was. then he plopped the clutch in. and it won't grab now... so idk. i have...
dammit. i knew i'd be in over my head. and yes, the clutch is not fully ENGAGING as in when i put it in gear and come back OFF the clutch, and let it fully out, the clutch is not engaging the flywheel and is slipping big times. i don't have any problem with the clutch dragging. if anything it...
okay i definitely will. i'll adjust the clutch pedal in the morning, i watched jack's video on it. will i need to drop the transmission? inspect the clutch?
i had my dad's friend who's been a wrench all his life put it in for me because i don't have a garage. it came with and adjustment tool, i can't imagine he's done it incorrectly, he had a lift in his garage and a really nice set up, and my dad also seemed very confident he would do it well. he's...
Would a BLT be something I could do at home? I don't have a garage so it's really hard to work on it in the winterI did manage to get it out on the road yesterday and any time i would boost it, it would stutter and fail. like anything past 3.5k or 4k would make the car stutter. i could hear...
okay i'll check for it again but I have learned that it wouldn't run without one. like i said, stupid question lol but it did sit up on the north side for quite a while at the shop and some guy broke into it and stole the steering wheel out of it.. i got a stock one with no airbag now. we found...
i see. i'll be referring back to this comment a bit for direction, so thank you. i'll look more into this and when the snow clears i'll be able to get a better idea of what's wrong.. i was thinking it can't be anything major, you know? thanks for the insight.
Hey speed racers. My '98 Spyder GS-T has a very ripped throttle cable. it's driveable, but hanging on by legit one thread of metal wire. Can i just buy a universal cable to replace the one that's on it? will i need to go pull on from a junkyard? it's the cable on the back of the engine, right...
I had to make sure everything on the intake was sealed before mine ran right. there was a leak from the intake where the BOV meets the intake right behind the pod filter for the turbo. also there was a vacuum line hooked up to the fuel pressure regulator that lead to nothing, so i had to put in...
Hello, thanks for your time. I want to put a GOOD clutch in it and I'm finally making big boy money so I'm able to. What exactly do I want? That is the question. I don't plan on throwing any boost at it or any timing or anything like that until I have ALL the supporting mods.. I want it to be...
Wow I think this might be a very possible option for me... so the 2.4 is beefier? I figured the DSM trans would be built for turbo applications and would be better. Like I said though I am a total car noob xD so bear with me. I know y'all don't know everything but which option do you think would...
twicks69 I can not express my gratitude enough to you for taking the time to drop this huge knowledge bomb on me. Thank you. If you don't mind, do you think a 2.4 swap would be better than rebuilding the original DSM trans, like @bduran1220 said?edit: seriously, thank u
did you have to fab up any transmission mounts or anything like that? I think i'd be capable of pulling the trans and swapping it with a working one but not much more than that... I don't have a garage but i do have a driveway and jackstands
I see... with that being said, do you think fixing the DSM transmission would be the most cost-effective way to get it back on the road? I don't plan on throwing any power at it until she's healthy and happy again. The only problem is I don't know exactly what is wrong with the trans.
hey y'all my tranny is shot, thinking it's the input shaft but I was wondering maybe what's the most optimal transmission to replace the stock one with? I want it to handle power no problem for the future but I also don't want to break the bank on a dog box or something like that... I still want...
solved.... got the car jacked up and the crossmember was just dangling loose at the back, and any time i would put torque on the transmission it would cause it to bang up against the subframe. they bolts were stripped and we had to tap a new thread. now onto the misfire... and why it won't go...
thanks for the support everyone. i'm just waiting till i have access to a garage one of these weekends and i'll check the tranny mount and cross member mounts as well when i replace the axle. i'll be sure to keep you guys updated on the car!
i'm gonna replace the axle first. but my buddy heard it and said it could be tranny mount? if the axle doesn't fix it i'll go there next. sorry for the multiple posts i'm just worried about my car
hey guys sorry i'm incompetent when it comes to things like this, i'm just now getting into cars and such, but... i made this video. skip to 3:10 and you can hear it pretty clear. as soon as i push the clutch in this noise ceases. i'm not sure what else information i may be able to provide but i...
update guys - i went ahead and tested her today to see if it was her CV axles or tranny. it's definitely not CV axles because i can turn the tightest i can with the clutch in and no click sound. any time i put the clutch in, the sound immediately ceases. what could it be? is it hard to rebuild a...
I was right about it being the CV axle? Sorry, I misunderstood your answer. Also thank you! It's my first "car" but not my first vehicle. It seemed like a perfect starter car to get into the car scene. I like the interior on it too, it's surprisingly comfortable even for a big guy. It needs...
Firstly I'd like to say thank you both for the support! I didn't think I'd get an answer for a couple days or so. It does seem to be during acceleration and turning, as it doesn't happen on the highway. Since it's so snowy out and the tires that were on the car when I traded for it were bald as...
I recently purchased a '98 Spyder GS-T and I've already gone over it and done some basic mechanical upgrades. Now, I'm a young guy just getting into cars but I figured, "What better way to get into cars, than hands on experience?". I have replaced the rotors and pads in the rear with ceramic...
