    Pulling Engine

Thanks for the detailed response, I haven't got to start on it yet, every time I go in on my day off I get suckered into working since I'm on flag rate and there money on the table. One of these days will be slow enough lol.

    Pulling Engine

I need to pull the block on a 98 GST 5 speed to inspect after developing a rod knock. I am hoping to pull the engine alone as I need to be able to role the vehicle out of the shop once Im done. If the front components and balancer/harmonic damper are removed, can pressure plate clear the bell...

    Lifter tick

As far as the 01 eclipse I have, it's just valve train noise. The common ticking, but very loud on this car. Ive had the head off and new timing components etc throughout the time I've owned it. The ticking clacking noise has always been there. Even after a new set of OEM lifters, that's why Ive...

    Lifter tick

Thanks for the 3rd gen clarification. I have the new lifters installed when the heads get sent to the machine shop for their valve job. They put them in, not sure what they do before installing, but I'd assume they know what they are doing. You soak lifters on any engine you're working with...

    Bad Brake Booster, or M.C.?

If you open the hood and run the car at idle pushing on the brake, can you hear any hissing noise? That would be a clue towards the booster. If you pump it up to where it's really hard and hold, does the peddle ever sink or go lower? That would be a master cyl clue.

    WTB 7 bolt engine

I'm in need of a good block/rotating assembly. 7-bolt for a 98 GST. Car has a rod knock. Head is fresh, just need a good complete engine or just assembled block. Let me know what you have.

    Lifter tick

I'm trying to tackle the infamous lifter tick that several Mitsubishis I've owned have had, and still have.. This may be more of a general informational thread than a direct question in regards to my vehicles. I have done a lot of research and read the doubtful fixes that many have come up with...

    2G P0505 and P1105 Faults

I updated the original post as you were replyingAnd no, I haven't looked into it yet. I'm at work and I got tipped off about this car for sale and what codes it has. So hopefully those that know will post some useful information.

    2G P0505 and P1105 Faults

I'm looking into a 99 GST with a few issues. Most I'm familiar with. But it also has a P0505 code (idle air control valve) and a P1105 code (fuel pressure solenoid malfunction). I haven't been to look at the car, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what the common cause for this code is. Does the...

2G Battery relocation and 4 white wires.

Check your fuel pressure. Maybe it's constantly priming because it's not pushing enough fuel to build any pressure, hence the no start. I've had a new Walbro go bad in the first few cycles.

How big of a lip is on the drums? You will need to have them machined if you have to adjust them by pulling the drum off and on until you get enough clicks. There's no window in the back for adjusting while they are on? Is your wheel cyl wet from spraying penetrating oil or is it leaking? Peel...

New to DSM, just picked up a 1g

Crazy how a 1990 can be an upgrade lol. Subaru.. Pretty poorly built cars from what I've seen. Leak like an absolute sieve everywhere. And those head gaskets :ohdamn:. And pulling the engine to do timing. Not what I'd want to deal with. I guess that depends on the subi you had though.One...

    2G clutch disengaugment issue

Damn, thats a disappointment, sorry bro. Id surface the flywheel and do a new clutch kit if I I was going that far. Unless that clutch is like new. Not worth pulling the trans to do just a TO bearing and hope after its done that you don't have clutch chatter.

    Downpipe advice

If you did like a lot of people and deleted EGR and things like EVAP system, have no cat, and have aftermarket parts bolted onto the engine in various places, I'd recommend selling the car where you live and starting fresh here if you still want a DSM. If you don't do the work yourself, it will...

    Downpipe advice

I have come to the realization that I may have a high flow cat installed. Its a magnaflow California complaint cat, however the more I research it, it seems they only make high flow design cats. Anyone know if that's true? I'm looking around and all I see is "high flow" mentioned with any cat...

    Downpipe advice

What do you guys think of this plan. The Apexi N1 down pipe is 2.5" inlet and outlet, which is my catback's diameter and will match up the the cat nicely. And if you look at it, it isn't a bright polished chrome look. It looks like it will relatively quickly become a normal looking pipe with...

Nice, and more power to boot :D
  19. Turbo2g

    Downpipe advice

The way to get around it is to have a straight pipe and cat pipe that can be easily swapped in. Mine is welded in unfortunately. So I'd have to make flanges. Just the way the car was when I got it. Cars can still be quick with their cats in. Just a hindrance we all deal with. This gst had a bad...

I'd replace the slave then. It's gotta have a seal problem letting air past when it's pumped or something.

    2G problem with 4g63t

I think you should access your throttle body and clean it. If it's built up with junk, it can cause issues mostly at idle and low rpm. It's free and a good place to start.
  23. Turbo2g

    Doubt turbo 4G64

I was gonna say, don't! I turbocharged the 4g64 in my 3rd gen Eclipse GS. Blew the engine three times before getting rid of it. Just get a turbocharged car. It will cost about the same in the long run. Turbocharging and supporting mods isn't cheap. But if it's built for it, have fun!

2G Good deal on OEM NABCO clutch master cylinder

Autozone  always the same story. I got a Exedy master/slave for $15 and $10 from rockauto. Not OEM but good brand and it felt good to update my old seeping components. Just another option for those looking. Can only speak to their durability up to a few months as I put them in in...

    2G clutch disengaugment issue

It's just a matter of bleeding it right. If you got a bunch of air out, and now the peddle is worse, you have to keep bleeding. Use a vacuum source if you can. It's the best way. Using two people is better also. Have one inside pump and one opening/closing the slave. What was the level of your...

    Downpipe advice

I did that before in another car. Found out that’s a sure way to murder your cat. Cats work by becoming hot. Opening a cut out before it makes what still goes to the cat become unburnt gases on the element and it becomes clogged or otherwise useless as they burn off on the elsement insufficiency...

If you get caught racing, or doing something reckless like that, the car can be taken. That's much more likely to happen if the car is modified. Not sure what you're talking about here.. I don't have any tubing disconnected.. Did you see something in my engine pic or something? As far as the other stuff, that's another California issue. I can't upgrade the turbo, do aftermarket piping and fmic stuff. It will fail visual and be...

    Downpipe advice

Believe me, I've been there done that. My 505hp vette is a smog nightmare every year. That one I drag race and went all out on. In this state v8's are considered gross pouters and subjected to a smog test every year. My GST is meant to be my street car, fun as possible, but legal. I need a car...

    Downpipe advice

The part you're missing here and that is still unanswered is if a downpipe and stock cat will be an improvement. Your improvement came from removing the cat. Everyone knows an aftermarket downpipe that deletes the cat will be an improvement. You aren't telling me anything I don't know. I live in...

    Downpipe advice

A catback does on a turbo car, there are many dyno results to prove it. The muffler has a horrible restrictive design. Downpipe advice

Even a 1975 muscle car must pass smog. 74 and older is exempt. Yes you can buy aftermarket cats, but they must be C.A.R.B. (California Air Research Board) approved ones. I have a brand new cat on mine and passed smog already. So no, a 90's 4 cyl isn't even close to being felt bad for by the...

    Downpipe advice

I have a 2.5" catback with the cat still installed, and I intend to keep it that way. It's more important to me to be smog legal these days than make every last hp out of my setup, but I do like to make what I can. I am wondering how bad the stock downpipe is and if it makes sense to change it...

    Oil cooler seals

Thanks, I'll look into it if I have a leak there. Actually there is one other thing. I keep getting leakage from the copper washers on the slave cylinder. It was one of the original issues when I picked the car up with the clutch peddle on the floor. I have tightened the hell out of the fitting...

    Oil cooler seals

In response to ChryslerkidI heard they are easy to over torque, and if the seal is flat, I'd be having to put extra force on it to squish the seal enough to stop the leak. I'll go ahead and do a new seal to make it a good fix. What about the mounting bolt? Some cars have seals on them. Is...

    Oil cooler seals

I am going to fix the final leaks on my engine. The oil filter housing/cooler is one of them. I am looking for the seals for it and I came up with these. They don't look the same, but seem to be advertised for the same thing. Which of these is right? Or are both right, just look different...

Yes, as I said. Try cleaning your throttle. I bet its absolutely filthy gummed up.

    Manifold gaskets

So ever since I rebuilt my head a few weeks ago, I get a strong exhaust gas smell under full boost. Only when I really get on it. I used the gaskets out of my $50 head gasket set, so they aren't the best I'm sure, (you know, that kind or silver covered paper gasket you normally see). I've...

    Twin tip exhaust?

You should just take the car to a muffler shop and have them make/install a mandrel bent pip of your preferred size and use your muffler that's still in good shape. Sorry, but it sound's like your exhaust is so old and $hitty with worthless hangers and clamps I'm guessing, allowing a pieced...
  44. Turbo2g

Bad spark plug wires? Or maybe power transistor?

This sounds like MAF or possibly throttle to me. Do you have a scanner to read data? If not the first thing I'd do is clean your throttle body. If you access and find it absolutely gummed up, it can cause a lot of drivability issues. A bad MAF will cause bogging down, as will a bad coil if it's...

    1G Idler pulley questionable?

I think it will be fine. I have to re-use questionable parts all the time in my field lol. They always seem to hold up. Ive re-used my own timing pulleys a few times now. And they are even a little loose. If its smooth, you'll be fine.

    2G No spark no start

You will not get spark if there is a failure in the crank sensor circuit. If the computer doesn't see input, it doesn't know when to fire the coils, so it wont fire them. Just something else for you to check.Guys, use your heads! I get customers in all the time with a bunch of brand new parts...

2G 1999 eclipse gsx underbody rust

There are a lot of things to consider besides the rust. If its driving good, not in need of everything under the sun, and has a clean body/interior, the rust can be overlooked, title clean? It doesn't look to deep to me. I'm sure some areas are worse than others, but that surface rust is pretty...

Did you know that regardless what the country of manufacture is, parts can be made to better specifications? There are good parts made in China depending on how it's contracted.
