I do have a 1999 sitting here right now that has a fuel filler neck vent line that rusted through. Closer examination shows rust on the filler neck as well.Obviously rust is a contaminant with particles that affect fuel flow and in the case of mine with open system can result in...
A GSX swap might be outside of the rules for that series but a 4G63 swap might be worth exploring. The 420A is a Chrysler engine that was modified to fit into the Eclipse chassis. As a result it lost power in the process. Something like 130 hp in stock form. The manual transaxle that goes with...
When the crank is turned the corresponding bearings will be thicker to make up for the amount ground down. If you tried to put a bearing in for a crank that hasn't been machined there is a real likelihood it's not going to spin once the caps are torqued. You could try oem bearings with the...
Off hand I am not seeing a difference between the U.S./CA and E.U. DSM specs for that. Didn't check JDM.2.0 DOHC non turbo cam specs all years:Intake valve opens 26 deg BTDC and closes 46 deg ABDC for a duration
of 252 deg Cam ID mark "A" 1.4 inch cam height
Exhaust valve opens 55 deg BBDC...
New Venture was the company which manufactured the NV T350 (A578) for Chrysler for their 420A engine. To install it in the Eclipse the engine had to be modified which resulted in a power loss. New Venture went out of business about 5 years ago.Short of disassembly and identification of the...
Most of the country is using fuel with at least 10% ethanol mixed into the gasoline. These vehicles, like tens of millions of others, were not designed to run ethanol and it does have negative effects on seals and gaskets. While I have not paid any attention to the temperatures in New York...
If there is no engine in the car what are you using to plug the fuel supply and return lines? Something is not sealed and allowing the fuel vapors to escape. I might add that those vapors you are smelling present a significant risk of explosive fire. When in the presence of a spark or flame...
They show several options for them when looking at the parts guide. FWD v. AWD (GST is FWD). Manual v. Auto (Shows manual in profile. Shows ABS v. Non-ABSW/O ABS Left Part Number: MB896795
W/O ABS Right Part Number: MB896796
ABS Left Part Number: MB896797

After 6 months plus that fuel is not going to be very good either. These things were not designed to run corn supplemented fuels that EPA requires these days so I could certainly see clogged injectors on the list with fresh fuel.
The pulleys bolt to the crankshaft with that bolt in the center. Likely has a keyway cut into it keep it from spinning. it will be tightened well and may even have loc-tite on it. I have electric and pneumatic impacts and pullers but can tell you from experience if you are using just a ratchet...
You can see the front pulley also has a piece broken from the edge (IMG 244 at the 1 - 2 o'clock position). Signs of oil from the crankshaft seal. Oil pan bolt likely missing the seal. Those photos don't show anything major.
The white elephant here is the deductible. Repair minus the deductible is what insurance pays. And there is a good chance once repairs begin, at a shop, there would be a supplemental request for additional expenses not seen initially. Insurance adjusters know this and when the repairs are...
Image 222 is showing some oil in a suspicious location at the edge of the block and directly above the oil drain. Crankshaft pulley appears to have a chunk taken out of it on the back side as well. No obvious signs of oil being slung by the pulley but you can tell it is getting back up on the...
There will be a seal that goes around the crankshaft and the point I would examine just based on the mileage. Then you have a seal on the oil pan. They make a dye that can be added to the oil in effort to help determine the point it is leaking.
Not being familiar with the circumstances of it being set up or the environment, I would pull the head then check the cylinder walls for surface rust before wiping them down and putting some oil around the pistons to soak down around the rings. Easy enough to turn it over by hand with a...
We are taking for granted he has a place, tools and abilities to do the work? You can expect to experience some unexpected issues which affect your use of the vehicle. I would strongly suggest at least being familiar with what is involved in a repair or mod so that you are educated in the work...
Easiest way is to swap one of the other relays - such as the other fan relay. I typically follow that with a battery charger to provide a direct 12 volts (@ 15 amps) direct to the fan plug. Then end up testing wiring between point A and B to find an issue in the wires.
About a year ago I was in the Columbia Falls area for a few weeks, then went down to Utah to pick up an ecoboost powered truck, back up to CF then returned to the southeast. They did have much better fuel up there. Even on winter blend (late January - early February) I was seeing 22-23 mpg...
Hopefully in the more than four years since he posted the query there was a realization that ethanol does eat the rubber and a resolution found.I would be interested in learning how Montana avoids the ethanol mandates.
No worries. I am not the thread police and these people seem pretty tolerant of new people like us. They do seem to watch the rules though.Being new we are kind of limited in where you can post things. One example is in the "Newbie" area - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forum/newbie-forum.4/...
Normally you would start a new topic versus resurrecting the old.Fuses are rated in amps (amperage) and should blow to prevent damage to a circuit - such as the wiring; which can melt insulation or burn the wire itself. Depending on what bulb you are using it will draw a certain wattage x...
Since the top one is a hose that runs from filter to fuel rail, I am guessing you are talking about the line from the tank up towards the passenger wheel, across the lower firewall then turns up under the filter?
Someone with more experience may chime in with a better suggestion, but I would simply take the valve cover off and remove the bolts holding the cams. Once released the camshafts will allow the valves to fully seat and you can rotate the crankshaft without interference.Set the engine to TDC...
If memory serves oil pressure is 11.4 psi (or higher), curb idle speed, at operating temp (like 170-190 degrees). The low pressure light comes on at 7 psi. In my 2g (4g63T) it is a little over midway on the gauge when cold, drops just below half of the needle arc when warm. In the 1g (4g63) it...
Just to toss a few questions out; are you running the a/c when it is sitting versus when it overheats? When it overheats have you stopped to check the fans are still operating at the correct speeds?
I can say from personal experience that I purchased a 1g (4G63 - 7 bolt) with a flex plate that cracked, leading to the torque converter making contact with the bolts on the block and shaving metal from the converter case. It got out of balance enough to strip the TQ converter bolts.
Back in the late 90's I had a 94 Eclipse GS w/ 1.8L and 5 speed. Made some custom parts for it followed by braking upgrades, custom alarm and audio. Ran like a sewing machine. These days I have a 93 and 94 GS with 2.0 and auto slowly being worked on. Picked up the 93 with a broken flexplate...
