  1. Resolved ECMlink sporadic connection

OK folks, I got her working . The issue was a bit peculiar as I believe it is specific to Evo 1-3 cars, but in case anyone wants to know...So I mucked around with the fuses more. No dice, tried replacing them etc. Checked my wiring for all of my gauges to see if there were shorts, and there...
  2. Resolved ECMlink sporadic connection

So what I've done so far is try to remove the fuse again (fuse #14 in my car, which controls my interior light circuits, radio, rear popup antenna, etc) and my A/F gauge is now working (wasn't before, as well). The connection is better and I can connect stably at idle (YAY)...but still not able...
  3. Resolved ECMlink sporadic connection

Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of an issue with my link connection and was wondering if anyone could offer insight.I recently got my car out from storage. When I put it away ~beginning of December, I was able to connect normally and log/tune just fine. Now, my laptop will only connect under...
  4. 650 injectors no tune

As long as it is tuned properly and your cat is functional, you have nothing to worry about. I passed the (insane) tailpipe sniffer e-test in Ontario with 850s and a high-flow cat with flying colours.
  5. 2G 97-99 block

Later blocks used the split thrust bearing, so the machining in the block where the bearing goes is different. Otherwise they are interchangeable, as far as I know.
  6. 2G Delta 280 cam question

I agree with the above, the 280s will be more useful in the high range but if they're stock lift you can't do too much wrong by keeping them as they are or going 272 with higher lift. It depends on how aggressive the profile is.
  7. Just wanted to share what I found epoxied to my front case

No, I actually have no idea where it's from, one of my friends uses that expression and I thought that it suited the cause nicely :D
  8. Just wanted to share what I found epoxied to my front case

I'd say that it "looks mint" but that joke might not be in everyone's currency.
  9. Need Turbo Experts

Agreed, that's far too much. Even on a journal bearing it should be VERY minimal. That sucker has to spin >100k RPM to work, a few mm of play like that will = goodbye engine very shortly. Get it evaluated but it will more than likely have to be re-rebuilt.
  10. evo ecu high idle!

450 deadtime might be too high, have you tried a lower value? Also, I'm not familiar with Tactrix but is there a way to see if the car is stuck in open loop? That might make it run rich as well.
  11. 96 no spark

It sounds like just your MPI firing, which as was said above is normal. If the PT shows any signs of being toast, change it out and see what happens.
  12. 96 no spark

It sounds like just your MPI firing, which as was said above is normal. If the PT shows any signs of being toast, change it out and see what happens.
  13. evo ecu high idle!

Start with injector dead times for idle AFR tuning. If the richness persists at higher RPMs then start playing with the global scaling values.
  14. 96 no spark

Definitely check the power transistor. If you have signal at the CAS and nothing at the coil it narrows it down a bit.
  15. 2G aem gauge question

The failsafe allows you to protect the engine in case something goes wrong e.g. the AFR goes too lean for a set period of time and you want to program in a 'rescue strategy'. Their page says it all, pretty much. Whether it's worth it to you is entirely your call, I think it would be handy if...
  16. Tach not working after setting timing

Did you do anything to/with the power transistor when you were working on it, even by accident? A bad PT could cause problems like this.
  17. Tick noise only under acceleration.

Have you been logging at all when the noise crops up? Seeing things like injector open time might help determine if there is a relationship between knock, noise and injector activity. Do you have a specific location for where the noise is coming from?
  18. 2G Wideband with DSMlink

If you are trying to simulate a 0-1V narrowband, then yes. Relevant details also here for the other settings :) http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/aem-wideband-seting.463349/
  19. 2g Rich cruise issues

Good stuff, glad to help. And no worries, I just passed my e-test yesterday so this is all fresh in my mind ROFLYou should probably have the WB in the downpipe anyway due to heat problems for the sensor that close to the exhaust ports. I'd recommend using the front O2 in its original place...
  20. 2g Rich cruise issues

OK so it looks like you are running very lean as you first said, but your global fuel is -57.0%. Slowly try increasing that towards zero and see if it does anything. If you have to set the deadtimes higher then so be it, mine are not really near the OEM spec either, I was just commenting that...
  21. 2g Rich cruise issues

You need to log more variables than those, such as injector parameters e.g. duty cycle and open time, as well as fuel trims (STFT, selectLTFT, combinedFT, LTFTlo, LTFTmid and LTFThi). By unplugging the front O2, unless you have the rear O2 intact (is it, or did you use your WB in place of it?)...
  22. 2g Rich cruise issues

Your fuel trims are quite high and your dead times are also very long, what injectors are you using? At a low pulsewidth i.e. cruise and idle, a longer dead time has a huge impact on fuel trims.
  23. knock or ticking.

The screwdriver idea works too as JB said as well, anything that helps pinpoint the source. I don't know whether or not synthetic would do that, although I can't imagine that it would (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). The cold flow vs hot flow conditions of the oil are indicated...
  24. knock or ticking.

If it is coming from the timing belt area, it might also be something else as well. Put a stethoscope up to the engine and see where the noise is originating from while it is running. A bearing of some sort sounds likely as the oil would thin out-->cover more internal metal surfaces once...
  25. 2G Evo 3 16g help

^I have a 255 on my stock 2G fuel pressure regulator with no problems. But then I may also be a weirdo, it wouldn't be the first time :p And as far as the OP's question I'll just corroborate what was said above that you should be OK as long as you keep the boost down. Get some 560 or slightly...
  26. 1G Low compression and sporadic rough idle...among other things

If the engine has a decent number of miles on it and has been driven hard in that time, it is very likely that you will be getting a bit of blow by. If the head gasket were bad, you might also notice oil in the coolant or vice-versa. Burning oil under load is characteristic of bad rings or...
  27. Talon gets its motor back

Nahh the big 16G spools nicely. I had one for a while and the torque comes on like a tidal wave. If lag is an issue, dial in a bit of lean spool ROFL
  28. 1G Boost issues at operating temp

OK good, that helps narrow it down a bit more. Checking vacuum lines would be helpful, too, although I assume that you have. Until you have access to tuning, do as was said above and check your plugs+wires.
  29. 1G Boost issues at operating temp

Could it also be something with the tune, possibly your coolant temp fuel delivery adjustment? Or maybe there is a rubber seal leaking somewhere once you get up to temp? Where are you hooking up your boost leak tester/plugging the other end?
  30. Talon gets its motor back

Looking good! Are you using a 14B?
  31. 2G Crank pulley vibration

Just to follow up on this, the noise was definitely the harmonic damper vibrating. I replaced it with a new one and she is running great now.
  32. tdo5 (stock) upgrade?

If the OP is already using a 16G, moving up to a big 16G is not really the best way to "chase power". The idea of the bastard 20G is a good one, trying to track down a TD05 20G would be a better bet on a budget. I have an HTA Green which is truly lovely but not as cheap as a used MHI.Also...
  33. tdo5 (stock) upgrade?

You could always go bigger if you want to chase more power and stay within the TD05 housing family. An 18G or a 20G would be a nice kick, but as was said you have to factor in lagginess (especially in a heavier vehicle). What engine is in this? That might help people help you with turbo...
  34. 2G Crank pulley vibration

I guess I'm not driving it any further or running it until I change the pulley. I just wasn't sure whether or not it required IMMEDIATE attention, although as was said it is a balancer and balancers shouldn't be unbalanced. I read a bit more about some horror stories of balancer shrapnel getting...
  35. 2G Crank pulley vibration

Thanks, I didn't think it was good but I hate to throw money at parts and solve nothing.

  37. 2G Crank pulley vibration

Hi all, I'm just looking for some advice regarding my crank pulley. I have a fresh internal rebuild on my 7-bolt (I'll update my profile soon) and I reused my old harmonic damper/crank pulley among some other stuff. I noticed a *slight*, almost imperceptible, squeaking noise from the driver...
  38. 2G Importing an Eagle Talon

That's odd. I had no idea that you couldn't import from Canada to USA...my parents bought their US car from 2010 MY and brought it here no problem. I'd press the issue personally, if you don't simply want to buy the same car locally i.e. an Eclipse GSX :pRead this...
  39. Any downside to 7-bolt 1Gs?

You are correct. As far as I recall the big end of the rod is slightly wider in the 6 bolt and the small end (wrist pin hole) is slightly smaller in the 6 bolt. 6 bolt rods are often used as a cheapo hi-po build option but the machining preparation of them for use on the 7-bolt crank has to be...
  40. Any downside to 7-bolt 1Gs?

The 1G 7 bolt is not that hard to buy for, as there is massive cross-compatibility with the 2G 7 bolt. Check this out, it describes a lot of the specs compared between 6 bolt and 7 bolt, and 1G-7 bolt vs 2G-7 bolt...
  41. piston identification

Interesting...Has it run in this configuration yet? If not, make sure that the front diff crown and pinion gears being used are the DSM ones or else your front and rear wheels will turn at different speeds. Very very bad
  42. 2G 2G or Evo engine?

    Evo I. Do a "control-F" for 'G6K' on this page and you'll find it.http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/car-talk/32327-how-to-differentiate-between-evo-1-and-evo-3-engine.html
  43. piston identification

Pistons are Evo I/II and the gearbox is from a I. You ,sir, have an Evo 1 drivetrain :Dhttp://evo123.net/forum/general/evo-chat/7543-engine-differences http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/resolved-transmissions-bar-codes-serial-numbers.114903/
  44. 2G Preparing for the worst - block rebuild

It's hard to say what the best course of action is until he pulls it apart. My earlier suggestion was a bit of a worst-case scenario (although it seems that with these cars you can never have too many spares of ANYTHING :p).OP, it would be best to inspect everything first and see what your...
  45. 2G Preparing for the worst - block rebuild

If you are considering doing a rebuild, start with a fresh used block and go from there. They are cheap and then you can put in upgraded internals, high-tolerance bearings, all the goodies. That's exactly where I am with mine right now. Make sure to get everything done where (either you or a...
  46. Smoking Problem Driving Me Crazy

Newbie lesson learned: Also read the date on the FIRST post not just the last one :coy:
  47. Smoking Problem Driving Me Crazy

Low boost and oil pretty much means turbo seals as far as I would be concerned^ As for the OP's question, it's hard to say whether it would be turbo seals or valvetrain. If you want to check if it is turbo seals, just see how your cold side intercooler piping is looking as well. If it's all...
  48. Anyone have experience with ebay short blocks?

$2k Can get you a pretty decent complete rebuild if you source your parts intelligently and have a bit of patience. I wouldn't get anything from eBay in that context.
  49. 1G 94' TSI Cricket Noise at low RPM

Check the easy stuff first. Power steering, alternator, A/C. Removing belts is a good idea, failing that start to check stuff under the timing cover.
  50. Resolved Loud rattling when engine is on

Good to know! A sanity check is always good to do especially if you find nothing serious wrong ROFL And for the record, yes, if tapping noises are 2x as fast as engine RPM (among other things) it is often top end/non-internal noise. Just for future reference :)
