So I took the car for it's second ride since it's been road worthy. All I can say is WOW what a difference! They're set to middle of its stiffness range and the car rides like a brand new car. It's stiff and tight without being overly bouncy and uncomfortable. Huge improvement over the garbage...
Alignment is scheduled for a couple of weeks from now and then it goes to paint for some body rust repair, patching, and paint. You can tell the rear wheel well where the rusty part is.Pile of trim:A little interior shot before I washed it:
Found the issue. When I installed the intake manifold a year ago I must have missed some shop rag. When I shined a light down the injector hole I could see blue. Pulled the intake many and there were 3 blue rags stuffed into number 1 runner. Don't be like me, ya'll, check all your air passages...
Spinning spare CAS with ignition ON caused number 1 injector to fire but still no combustion. Removed spark plug and looked down hole, piston was very wet, confirming injector is firing. Suspected no compression so decided to test
1-130
2-130
3-147
4-149
Not the greatest numbers but good enough...
Made some progress on the car will post pictures soon. This post is just to log steps I've done to troubleshoot injector #1 not firing.-Resistor box shows 6.5 on all pins.
-12v constant to injector confirmed
-Continuity to signal pin on injector from ecu harness confirmed.
-Swapped to...
I took the rear end apart as I could see rust from under the bumper. Took the bumper to get sand blasted and gave it the rustoleum flat black rust pain lt treatment as the subframe. Some pics of rebuilding the tranny I bought.
Here is some more pics of the rear subframe work. It was a rusty peicer so decided to sand blast it all, fresh poly bushings, RTM upper lca and Volk lower lca. I also picked up a set of flat out suspension coilovers for 1g to replace the shitty gr2 with cut springs.
Yes I did end up finding one thankfully. A guy in the city decided to get out of the dsm game all together a s sold me the tranny out of his 93 gsx! Tcase too
Since the car was going to be down for while I find a W5M33 tranny and tcase I did some upgrades. Powder coated intake mani, 16g, 1000cc injectors, clutch
After this is when I decided to do the transmission but I didn't find out the extent of the differences between W5M33 and C51PH. Input shaft was smaller, aluminum transfer case. Prevoius owner must have broken the tranny and replaced it with this Galant drivetrain to get it going then broke that...
I've been posting a bit on the "what did you do to your DSM today?" So I figured I'd update here with pics.
In my last post I was changing the fluids to participate in a race and it didn't end well. A lot has happened since then.
That transmission came from an 89 Galant C51PH, I bought parts...
Some more progress. Got the upper intercooler pipe on and all the wiring in the engine bay done. Boost leak test next. Still have to fill the transmission as when I did it last I didn't tighten up the drain plug so all my MTL was in the floor when I came into the garage. Tomorrow I'll get the...
Got a bung welded on the 3" downpipe, bolted it in. Also installed a set of torque solutions solid shifter base bushings. Cleans that slop up real good!
Cut the J pipe a little shorter and heat taped the lower IC pipe. It's starting to come together. Bought a new t clamp and an actual coupler to fit the intake and the 68 without having to use the stock rubber ring on the compressor housing.Hopefully today I can get the rear toe dialed in a...
I haven't been able to work on the car as much as I'd like so progress is slow. I rent a garage across town to work on it and I only get about 7 hours a week. Definitely will report back once is on the road. The forum has been invaluable for some of the things I've ran into with the suspension.
Mounted the rear brake line support. Coilovers didn't a place for the factory bracket. Shout out to @greddy_1700 for an elegant solution. It is indeed a tight fit but it works well.
Installed the Flatout suspension coilovers, installed painted calipers with braided lines, transmission, txase, and driveshaft are in. Starter is bolted on. Leather interior is in. Getting close! The front brake line bracket is awfully close to the lower locking collar but it works.
I'm currently rebuilding a W5M33 transmission but I can't seem to get the bearing puller plate behind the bearing on the intermediate shaft. I can only get it on the cage. Can this bearing be pulled this way or will it destroy it?
Out of the box they look and feel like very solid units. I haven't adjusted them but I have high hopes. Flatout also offers rebuilds and parts I believe so I'm hoping these will be the last ones I ever use. Upgrading from busted GR2s.
I'm currently in the middle of restoring the rear Subframe on my 1g. I messed up by not keeping track of where things go, specifically the big washers.
Here in this picture are two that have been painted, I'm sure those go on the mustache against the body of the car. The other 4 I forgot. I...
Not entirely sure if they still make them but I have a set of coil overs from flatoutsuspension.net. Fully adjustable and a 3 year warranty. Check them out.
Started rust repair on the 1g. Front left rocker panels were cut out to prep for welding. PB blasted the rear subframe to be able to drive that rusty stuff out. Started cleaning the Racinghart C5s to trade them away. Rust is a mfer.
I think it turned out fine although I wont be able to test until it's back together. Steve suggested using microphone wire since this shielded so followed this one:
Thanks! I'm currently getting help rebuilding my transmission from a friend that lives nearby so I figured I would tackle a long list of to-dos while its down. Having the transmission out of they makes access so much easier. It's also getting 1000cc injectors and an FP68.I re soldered the...
Is there a technique to soldering the braided line? It gets pretty frayed after its cut.Follow up question. If the braid is a ground, would grounding it to the firewall be just as effective?
Bros,I'm currently in the midst of a maintenance and upgrade blitz. One of my tasks is to replace the knock sensor because I was getting a ton of phantom knock and I want to fix it instead of trucking the ecu in link.So I didn't realize this when I was installing the engine because I'm still...
For a long time I resisted moving to EcmLink because it was so expensive. I found a guy 'locally' that was selling a kit so I jumped on it. I'd still be using the ostrich if I wouldn't had seen the ad.I think TP is a powerful tool if you're willing to put time into learning about it. I still...
Remember when I told y'all about how the previous owner let the engine leak so bad that the grease on the body could have acted as a rust inhibitor? Well the rear end didnt get the same treatment. I used good drivetrain fluids on the tranny and transfer case. I reckoned if I wanted to play with...
Hey guys its been a little while since I posted last. Spring and summer is the time to get out and do stuff so progress has been so so.When's we last left off the car was in a running state but still had tons of things to do. I ripped out the remote start and turbo timer. I'm only running...
