Sounds like hydraulic timing belt tensioner. Remove the timing cover and inspect the hydraulic tensioner you should NOT be able to move the tensioner by hand it takes a vise to collapse it. If it is bad please dont use an aftermarket one or you will find yourself doing it again within a year.
Do a boost leak test. You can make your own blt for cheap from homedepot items. Vacuum/boost leaks is def #1 on the list. Also make sure the engine has the correct pcv valve.
If its a 1g they are cable driven. 2g is a electrical component which could be wiring, cluster, vss or the vss gear. You can remove the vss and inspect the gears. On older hyundais the gear is plastic and the teeth would wear or crack.
i dont think thats a smart idea even if “stock” we arent smarter then the engineers. How much resistance is in the wires from pcm to knock sensor? It should be under 1 ohm to be considered good. If both wires are good then its likely a ecu issue.
The valve body is as mechanical as it gets. If your gonna remove it and take it apart to clean it might as well install a shift kit. The only thing that can really go bad on a valve body is the seperator plate in between the body halves. Follow ipts video to the t and youll be alright. Another...
Buy a 6 bolt and build it. Part of the game. Who knows what caused it like stated above i doubt detonation did it. Likely crankwalk or rod bearing failure. When you pull it apart you may have a better explanation as too what happened.
Makes sense i would pull the valve body apart and make sure all the valves are moving freely in there bores. Also you can check resistance from outside trans to actual solenoid to make sure its not shorted and has acceptable resistance in the wire.
Your looking at alot of money just like any other “build” i would suggest starting off by rebuilding the motor with forged internals getting it running tip top mcgoo and slowly starting upgrades. It can get expensive real quick so dont be afraid of buying used parts like...
It could very well be leaky injectors. You can remove them and get them tested and cleaned. Also pull the vacuum line off the regulator and inspect for fuel there shall be no fuel if there is the engine is sucking in fuel through there.
It looks like the starter is biting the tips of teeth. You should bench test the starter. Make sure it extends all the way. Also noticed the engine/trans plate is dented outward around the starter area and might be causing the starter not to fully seat or sit straight.
put it on jack stands and listen from underneath. Remove the lower converter cover if you still have it to see if its coming from the bellhousing or not.
