Wow!!! That is insanely awesome lol. That just broadened my options for when I start to put things back together this winter... Thanks for that, and much respect and props to you, Sir. :hellyeah:
Roger that... I thought the ring lands were mechanically different, with the NT design being more prone to breaking than the turbos' ring lands... It's been a while, so I definitely could be wrong on that though... Great tuning advice there. Knock definitely is a 1G turbo killer, regardless if...
Awesome. 20+ PSI on an FP red HTA on E85 is HAULIN' @$$ :hellyeah: I hope to get mine there one day... But yea, with that kind of life, then I guess at the very least a minor rebuild would be good at this point. Good luck, and I'll pray to the car gods:pray:
Sorry to hear that. I was hoping for something simple... After draining the oil if you don't see metal flakes/chips in it and you get out the cap and other loose hardware, you COULD press your luck on throwing it back together and praying , but even if it did function, would you really...
Hey. Sorry to hear about your troubles... I know you stated that you checked the oil lines to and from the turbo, but could it possibly be an itty bitty pee hole in one of them that only shows it's ugly side when the pressure is high enough, such as engine running/driving conditions?
Hello... The above statement is absolutely correct if you're running with stock injectors, exhaust, intake, etc. The SAFC comes in handy when you upgrade your stock injectors to a larger size (because of a turbo upgrade, or adding much more boost than stock levels), because then it is necessary...
Yeah, ouch!!! I'd be like:banghead:  if that happened to me lol... Iridium is good, but I've heard that under hard driving conditions the tiny electrode in them can become a "glow plug", and pre-ignite your fuel/air mix... That would also be bad news during a race.
Hey, and same here. The search/forums here have gotten me out of so much trouble with my 1g FWD so far! I'm still trying to build it, and it would've costed three times as much money if I never discovered this website. After you set your goal, do it right the first time, don't try to cut too...
... It's not a given that they changed your fuel filter during the fuel pump change. It's a quick, cheap, and easy thing to just replace and KNOW for a fact that it's good... Also a clogged fuel filter shortens the life of your fuel pump. It would be sad if you had to replace a fuel pump again...
... OK, you said that you have no air leaks... Do you have a modified (hacked) airflow meter? Check you IAC as well... That thing can unleash pure hell on things ESPECIALLY when it comes to the idle... I wish I knew more to help, but my knowledge is somewhat limited :aha:
Oh, my bad  I got hung up on the last part where he said it ran like it had bad spark plugs when he accelerated... Boost/vacuum leak test like inthemidst said :thumb:
Hey. Either test would tell of your cylinder and HG condition. I'm lazy :D so the compression test would be my first thing because it's easier lol... Anyway, after verifying the engine is indeed in good internal order, you may want to move on to checking the turbo itself?? I'm in no way an...
Hello... I agree with the above statement... Is the AFC set up right? What injectors are you running? Any other background info on the situation would help everyone to better diagnose your issue... Any tuning logs or data from wideband, or something like that? Without knowing these little...
Hello. In my opinion, you should probably do a compression test... I'd hate to break this news to you, but a blown HG can manifest itself a number of ways. Not just the infamous oil mixing with water/chocolate milkshake that most people think of.
Sorry about that, dude... But at least it happened early enough to still have it back on the road for the summer when the car scene is really wide open. Good luck on the rebuild.
It's a "Cometic" head gasket. It's another aftermarket company that sells (or ALLEGEDLY sells) high performance head gaskets... There's a mixed feeling in the race world about Cometic though (I hear a lot of catastrophic failure stories about their head gaskets)... In my opinion, a Felpro MLS...
Hello... I'm no engine expert at all :aha: but in my opinion it may have caused the valves to float which could have a bad effect on your seats, and if severe enough, may even cause them to contact with the pistons which would bend them... And then that could have caused the two "bangs" due to...
Damn... It would have to be one hell of a crack/hole in the head to "piss coolant and oil all over the place" I'm wondering if your block still OK? While you're in the act of replacing your head, it may be wise to inspect that bottom end.If I may ask, what led up to this condition? Like what...
To add to 96BoostedGSX statement; or do you have the weirdest symptom which in my opinion is when the gasket tears just right enough to cause the compression from your cylinders to push coolant back into your reserve coolant tank!!?? I'm in the middle of fixing mine because of it. I was hoping...
hello. I'm not a business person by any means, but since you're projecting these coming months to be bad, why not just "close for renovation" for at least 1 month to save some operation costs and really get things together to re-launch in the end of spring... Advertise a "new grand...
Cool... Be gentle though. That banjo set up is doomed from the factory (in my opinion), because the bolt is made of a stronger metal than the soft aluminum head. One mistake too many (such as over-tightening it), and it will easily eat up threads leaving a leaky or untrustworthy connection. And...
I did the same thing a while ago and ended up having to do an AN line set up after drilling out and re-threading the hole... After seeing the pic above, I think it's time for an AN setup.
Hmm. While the turbo is in definite need of attention (way too much play in it), usually white cloudy smoke is associated more with coolant making its way into the chambers (bad head gasket, cracked head)... Especially the white cloudy smoke that does not dissipate quickly in air. Check your...
