Awesome thanks for the info. I feel pretty competent in my wiring skills, and I'm ready to step up to good quality materials. When I first bought my 1g, one of the main problems it had was that the headlights went out. The P.O. had spliced in a HID conversion kit, and used spade connectors...
The time has come to tackle some wiring projects on my 1g. I'm looking for a source on some better quality wire, high temp jacketing, and auxillary plugs. I'm really tired of using low quality spade plugs and that crappy plastic wiring loom you get at autozone Napa etc. I'm looking into the...
I've been reading this and your other post about the conversion, and to be 100% honest bro, 90% of people on here are going to recommend you just start with a factory AWD, and not convert a FWD. Not anything personal to you or to be rude, that would be the easiest route. If I was going to do...
My talon is getting a face lift. I managed to track down a cherry 1g turbo bumper, even in my exact color! So I gotta trim it to fit around my front mount. Repainted all the oxidized trim pieces, fabricate a new crash bar, since the last owner hacked it to bits with a cutting torch to clear the...
I was at a car show sitting behind my talon in some lawn chairs. Seeing as I was the only DSM to enter I was stuck in between a group of Hondas, and two cars down from a evo 9. The evo owner did not strike me as a typical Mitsubishi owner, idk how to explain it but I can usually spot a true...
No doubt dude. There's a huge difference between a 14b and 20g. You know how people can be, if its not polished everything, sticker bombed to the moon, its stock .I do have a bud who could mill it, but idk how he could even clamp the thing into a fixture to mill it straight.
OK I'll take the groups advice, and turn this into a nice coat hanger. Or lamp, or pencil holder. My evo 3 has been kicking just fine, and I don't want to mess with fitment on my down pipe.
I don't plan on running a external waste gate anytime soon. I have no access to e85, or anything other than 91. I've looked into meth injection, but kinda far down my list of upgrades.Does anyone have any ideas about trying to straighten the flange on this thing, or are they all this bad...
That thing is a work of art. Really nice manifold. It might just be me, but I do really like the looks of a tubular manifold. It gets old every time you go to a meet and people just scoff at you " nice stock turbo and manifold " I mean I try to not to take it personal, cause % of people have...
I don't buy things for my talon just to look good, and I would never actually spend any amount of money on one of these junkers, I guess I should have stated that in the beginning that's really my fault guys I do apologize. I can see on the flange by the heat transfer and carbon build up that...
Yeah I'll do some updates on it. I don't mind the looks of it. The evo 3 is just kinda "meh" :| on the looks , and believe me if I had the cheese for a jmfab, it would be my first choice. Plus the rear bolt on the flange dosent look easy to access at all :notgood:
I'm trying to look but I can't see on the rim , could they be on the inside of the hub? They are from a sti, so might be close to the stock offset subie wheels
I've got some old rotas, not sure what model, riding on 235/45/17. I have 5mm spacers on the back. Barely rub on the front unless I hit a bump at full lock
Alright, I received this tubular for free, so I figured I'd goof around with it. Looks to me like a fleabay special.I've looked it over, can't find any cracked welds, and honestly this thing is heavy! I've seen a pacesetter manifold and that thing is definitely made of beer cans, bit this has...
That's awesome, I do respect 240s to a certain level, great chassis, but can't stand the idea of having a SR20 over my 4g63. And now that a LS swap is the new iPhone of engine builds, what a awesome way to do something original:hellyeah::dsm:
An evo driving retard, who says my talon is the first evo, get out of my sight. Congratulations, you bought a evo and didn't have the first clue about a timing belt, or that you need replace it. So your wife drives it to work, throws the timing belt, and you spend 7k dollars having someone else...
I saw one laser here, had a newer ish cylinder head, stock side mount, and one nasty little surprise was a bent connecting rod just hanging through the block, right above the ac compressor. The hot oil had caused a small engine fire. But the hood would have been good to use, if the last guy...
Its a big problem sometimes with these cars that fixing it will easily out weigh how much its worth, and that not alot of people are willing to invest into something like that. I made peace with mine, and I'll keep it no matter what because I know I'll never see a return on it
I have a slightly less dented pan for 6 er , just pm me if your interested If you cover the shipping I'll just give it to you.I've actually never seen a pan NOT dented ha-ha but that is very dented. Bad luck dude! Really bad luck
Thanks bro, I honestly feel like this should bring up some good conversation. I'm always curious of their would be a small niche market for super hard to find pieces, of anyone else would be interested it might be a good section to start up
So I've kinda noticed we don't have a really good salvage yard thread going. I'm in the same boat as everyone else when it comes to buying knock off parts for our DSM. I don't even consider looking on eBay for items anymore. But one thing I do enjoy is a trip to our local salvage yard. It's...
Agreed above. I have the punishment racing fmic and it dosent fit the greatest granted since the bov rubs on the hood, but it came on the car. I would like to change the out the intercooler to ETS core, but I'll keep the piping. But I don't want to feel like I'll be shamed to wander the...
I think we should all be thankful that a majority of the " plastidipperstanced" stereotypes generally gravitate towards the 240sx scene now. Plastic dip goes perfect with that big see through donger of a shift knob! And the 4mm of " stretched rubber" on those wheels. As sad as things do look...
Good thread! This is very good reading. I gave up on amazon car parts after the second 23 dollar slim fan absolutely bbqd itself. It couldn't move enough air to blow away the results of Taco Tuesday.Ok I'll say it, " Hi, I have a eBay turbo" that's the first step to recovery right? And yes I...
Well honestly not to be rude, but can't tell much by just pictures of the tops of the pistons. There could be damage to some of the bearings, maybe even cracked or broken ring lands there's just no telling until you go in and see.To really get a idea about the condition of the engine you...
Pretty interesting thread, talk about a bummer. I think we are bound to see Mitsubishi on the new top gear, as being one of the most disappointing deaths in the automotive industry. Its always heart breaking to see how bad things have been going for them. From our cars to all the evo lineup, and...
A friend of mine picked up a blouch Dom 3.0 for his wrx. Was a nice setup, he put down 425 on the dyno, stock block and running E85. I have a cx racing td05-20g, its held up well for 6 or 7k now, but I don't run it more than 16lbs, nothing too brutal.I've been reading alot of threads lately...
I have some questions for jackson machine.I went through a local machine shop when I was doing my rebuild. I called atleast five other " machine" shops, only to find none of them actually do engine machine work. They all recommended the shop I went through.I had the deck milled , hot tank...
Nice man I've enjoyed reading this thread. I'm looking in a red as well, and I was scrolling through your profile pics, I might be mistaken but do you have the punishment front mount? What did you do for your piping now that you don't have the jpipe, if you don't mind my inquiry
Did u buy that off Craigslist in Phoenix? I remember seeing that talon. I would go through the basic stuff first dude.
Boost leak test, check the ECU board, double check all your grounds. What kinda paperwork did the guy give you any receipts? There's a way to check what the CEL is saying...
I agree with the above statement. If I'm getting into my fuel system, just do it all once. I'm barely trusting my 25 year old OEM lines with pump 91. And I want to be covered if I run any kind of fuel, E100, alcohol, methanol, who knows maybe some mix with jp4, or even dump in some toluene...
With link you can also have a nifty little sensor that lives down in your tank that can detect what fuel your running and change the map accordingly. Definitely NY far the group favorite tuning option. In regards to your drive train there's really so many variables to take into account. It's...
If I was to convert my fuel system to 100% ethanol, I would convert everything. First you'll need a pump that specific for multi fuel use. I picked up a AEM 320LPH multi fuel pump, it'll do E85, E100, methanol, alcohol etc. I would change all my lines to some heavy duty braided AN stuff. Then...
A stock 1g runs 7.8 to 1 compression so I wouldn't even worry about not having enough compression. I would highly recommend a Mitsubishi MLS gasket. A little pricey, but would be cheaper in the long run if you have to replace a cheap one a year from now.
We all have to pay to play, I've learned...
If you could make it happen , Jackson machine has one hell of a deal going on their machine services. ARP main studs are beautiful! Don't forget those, :hellyeah:
The paper clip trick worked good for me. I've been through two cylinder heads and have had my lifters out quite a few times. I personally never filled them with oil. I filled them, bled them back out. I made sure they were coated with oil and gave them a good coating of assembly lube. How long...
You can use a spritz of hairspray on those couplers, helps them slide on and is a light adhesive to really help them stay put. A hair dryer too, but I always get a awkward/annoyed look from the hairdryers owner when I'm using it for something like that .
Thanks for your help. I'll let the guy know, seems to be easier the route. Do you usually salvage yard your extra ones, or do you know a good reputable site to find some on.I'm considering do the FIAV block off plate on my 91, have you done it on yours?
Ok so a guy work with just recently picked up a 90 tsi. It's really a gem of a find. Almost 100% stock, nothing but a K&N filter, on a 1g maf. Stock side mount even with a stock exhaust, and a 130k! Managed to pick it up for 1200 bucks. So I'm helping him through the basics, doing a BLT, and...
I used one fuse tap, and its tied into a power block. I run my wideband, gauges, and boost controller all of that power strip. Through the years I've gotten pretty good at wiring , I've found that a soldering iron and heat shrink wrap are worth their weight in gold.
Yeah little concerned about the tranny oil, synchro mesh eghhhh.... I mean dude goes through the trouble for redline in the rear end, why not put some mt90 in the tranny too. And the cosmetic head gasket I "think"? I could tell you EXACTLY every single torque spec on my build, cause I built it...
Buy a 1g! Ha-ha I am a little biased. :D
Receipts and pictures of the motor build are critical. And if he had the motor built I would definitely pick his brain about what kind of break in was done. Hopefully it's not just a list of upgrades the owner before him did.Double check with the...
X2 on the cheap eBay fans. All they are good for is a desk fan. Had similar issues, constantly changed out cheap fans, radiator caps, thermostats etc. Finally got my hands on a OEM passenger side fan, ditched the ac condenser, and problem solved. Rarely see over 200, usually sits at 195
Also when your aligning the cams, it helps if u have a big ruler, or straight edge, or level is what I used. There are outside marks, and inside marks on the stock cam gears. You Need to get all four lined up, not just the inside ones, and definitely agree u aren't anywhere close on the...
Mines high too, alot higher than it use to be, I put in some 10w-40 this time around. Just cause it gets down to the single digits here at night now, and it starts a little easier on lighter oil. But man, running 20w50, it's quite a bit higher
