I know this is a really old post, but today i went to a salvage yard specializing in DSM's looking for the 2Gb Rear Knuckles. Had a problem where they stripped all the GSX's rear subframes off the bat, so all of their rear knuckles where unlabeled by year. I searched for something to tell me...

So I got my water pipe today. I ordered part number MD192467, which I did based on it being for a 95-99 2.4L DOHC Galant GS. What I didn't realize is that it is the same part for a 95-99 2.4L SOHC Eclipse Spyder. So it doesn't actually fit at all. Here is why:The upper pipe is the 2.4L...
mjtnismo updated 2G Talon Track CarView updates to this DSM profile...Just got a bunch of parts in for the engine. Been working on the cooling system lately. Still waiting for a 2.4L Cooling Pipe that I ordered. In the meantime I bead blasted the thermostat housing parts and used a...
Yeah its a 420A. GS or RS. I kind of figured you would have trouble with the markings with them painted on like that. You could try and get a look at the pins behind the gear and go off that or even take one off, turn it around and count the teeth to make new marks on the front, but if you...
Agreed with it likely being unrelated, but here is some food for thought. If you have a turbo engine your oil is also running through your turbo, which is turned by hot exhaust gases, therefore the oil helps cool it(and lubricate it obviously). This all results in a much higher wear rate on...
Agree with above statements, but if none of that works out try machv motorsports...they are a bit pricey but they tend to have some of those hard to find seals.http://www.machv.com/2gfasuwest.html
Sounds like you have an electrical problem. Either a short or a bad ground. Did you forget to plug something in or ground something out that shouldn't have been? Also as you were removing the engine/transmission did you happen to pinch any of the wiring? If you didn't make any changes to any...
First off, those look like 420A Timing Gears, correct? If this is the case (really its the same regardless) disregard the lettering. You need to align the cam pins to 12:00, then line up the timing marks on each gear with each other (3:00-9:00).*update* it actually doesn't look like yours...
I stripped and base coated the engine compartment next. Thanks to crappy seals and neglect there was oil all over everything. I put in a Non-ABS Brake proportioning valve and Non-ABS lines. I kept my ABS Master cylinder and booster. It was about then that I had to move. I packed...
So when I bought my Talon it had about 145,000 miles on it. It had only one modification, a Kenwood head unit. Absolutely stock other than that. I believe an old man owned it before me. It's body was immaculate and the frame was perfect. It was shear luck that I got it when I did. I...
I plan to beat the crap out of my engine on the track and push a bit of boost so I decided to scrap everything. Not to mention the block came from a junk yard. Most 4G64 swaps I've seen used the 87mm gasket as well.
I used to get all of my parts from Slowboy Racing, now known as Built Industries. I picked up a Cometic MLS from Mike out there. Its an 87mm (I'm also .020" over, 3.426") and .051" thick. Part number C4235-051. It matched up perfectly with my head.
1994 7 bolt 4G64 from a SOHC Galant, modified for use with 2G head. I'm actually about to start documenting the build on here. I've been a bit preoccupied.

Yes please do go into particulars. You can use a feeler gauge to check thrust bearing play. Chances are RenleyX has a set of feeler gauges sitting around vs a dial indicator with magnetic base. The test is slightly different. The end result is the same.Nothing 1990TSI said is incorrect...
Check the clutch while it is out, it may be pretty worn from awd launches. Make sure your flywheel and pressure plate are in good order as well. If you have to replace it, use oem or a light performance clutch (your wife will appreciate oem). Definitely change out the gear oil. If it shifts well...
There are many problems with these cars unfortunately and the fact that they are pushing 20 years old only makes it worse. Major problems are weak transmission, crap thrust bearings in the 2Ga's and early 2Gb's, poorly designed suspension, inefficient head design, and for some reason get...
You can eat or drink whatever you want, but don't come on to a public forum and encourage other people to consume hazardous materials. I believe this falls under the below statement of spreading misinformation at the least. Lets try and provide gofast63 with some productive information that...
The reason for ss lines is because the factory lines will swell upon brake application. Replacing them with ss braided teflon lines will reduce this swelling which results in firmer braking. The two are nearly identical but you should use the dsm for length and fitment to the chassis, not the...
The fronts are what you can re-use because they are banjo, the rears you can not. You are already looking to spend upwards of $1000 so just spend the $80 for the aftermarket braided lines. Why upgrade your brakes and leave the soft factory lines in place? There is a link near the start of this...
Ok that makes a lot more sense. Your battery needs to be fully charged first of all. 11v is the typical no crank level but depending on the size and age of the battery it may struggle up until 12-12.5v to get it started. Take it in to an auto parts store and have them test it and charge it. They...
Diagnosing a car that you cant see is a terribly difficult thing. With that said is there any more information you can provide. Was it a fast winding? Like the sound of a starter gear spinning but not engaging the flywheel? Can you pinpoint the noise? Have you checked your battery's voltage...
The only thing that should be used in our DSMs is green as it is ethylene glycol. Our systems are designed for coolants that do not have sealants in them. If your coolant is clear then you have a whole other issue. As for tasting anything that comes from or around your car, please don't. It...
I hope thats a joke. Dont taste anything that comes from your car. Smell it and test the viscosity between your fingers. Also color is a huge indicator. Antifreeze is bright green. Only fluid that is...
First things first....find out what kind of fluid it is. Stop guessing and get under there and get a sample. There are only so many things back there and the moment you figure out what it is leaking you can go to the relevant parts it can possibly leak from.
Your only options are to either buy a new light (clearly not the cheapest choice), go to a junk yard and get the piece, or ask around on here for someone who might have a junk light that can give you the piece. You aren't going to find just that piece at any store.
Check your rear differential bushings (2 front, 2 rear) and your rear sub frame bushings (there are 4) for rot or damage. A lot of people have this problem when their bushings go bad.
Anything can be made to fit anything with the right parts and expertise. As for direct bolt up, I doubt it. The two cars have a different chassis. It would likely take some custom made brackets to get it to mount up. There may be someone on this forum though who as done it.
Like NHerron said, it could be a lot of things up there. That whole front case has a bunch of seals that could leak. Your best bet is like said above, clean that area best you can (some kind of degreaser will help before you pressure wash) then start low and follow the leak until you don't see...
*grimace*.... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but first and foremost when getting into 2G DSM's with the 4G63T you have to understand one terrible fact about them: They have crap thrust bearings in them. This is the primary cause of the dreaded Crank Walk. Its when your thrust bearing...
When it's all said and done just remember, the 420A is a Chrysler/Dodge Neon engine. Do you really want to dump a ton of money into an engine designed to be economical and weak? I had a 420A eclipse a long time ago and I used to think it was awesome that I could hit 100mph in it. Then I grew...
If you are looking for an easy solution get the Galant knuckles. They are a direct bolt in and don't require any grinding or modifying to get them to fit. This is a pretty good link that I am using: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/diy-install-evo-brakes-brembo-on-2g.260580/. Lets be honest...
If you burped it then there likely isn't air in the system. It's common for the water pump to leak prior to total failure. The weep holes are there to help vent excess air and fluid as well as to act as a pressure valve. You may just be experiencing the early signs of water pump failure. If...
Check your water pump's weep holes to see if they are leaking coolant. Often when your pump fails it dumps coolant out of these. I can't say for sure but it sounds like your pump is working intermittently and when it does work after it dumps you are seeing a decrease in coolant levels. Or it...
If you can't find one but you are willing to shell out the $60.00 you could order a new one from the dealer. Here is the link to the part at the dealer I order from:http://www.southwestautogroup.com/parts/page/parts_mitsubishi?dpt=3If you don't want to spend that, try this place...
mjtnismo submitted a new DSM Profile :2G Talon Track CarRead more about this vehicle here...I'm a bit overdue on documenting this build. I will try and catch it up with what details I can. I started this build in 2005 and managed to strip it down and start rebuilding it, but in 2006...
The part number for this roll stopper is MD745087. You can find it in a junk yard, a dealer (for about $66.00), or just google the part number and wade through all of those links. Sometimes something like this will post up on ebay or amazon. Best bet, find a local junk yard for a cheap one...
