chances are there is a boost leak and if there is no leak than your boosting to high on the setup your using.

well I'm running the true-boost setup so I'm able to adjust the wastegate spring pressure.

when in doubt buy a new clutch and if you go to replace and it is just an adjustment adjust and your set for when it does go.

they are ditching the sniffer not the visual. and they will be instead of doing the sniffer actually plunging into your obd2 of obd1 ports and reading on there scan tools from there. also to the information facts i will find the links again and post them, i don't like leaving faulty information...

the idle fluctuation will not cause a visual fail. and also if you can get and extension sticker from the dmv because they get rid of the sniffer test and visual test this year so maybe push it out till that stuff is gone.

what setup are you running for boost controler, internal or external wastegate?

if its spark pull a spark plug out and hook it up to the spark plug wire have a friend turn the motor over and watch for a spark at the plug check all four if no spark test coil packs and replace as needed. make sure the plugs aren't fouled.

it happens to the best of up take pics if needed.

the removal is pretty easy put a broom stick from the ground to the hatch as its open make sure you new struts are the same size, then unbolt one at a time pretty easy.
