Hey Steve,I did resolve the issue, but I can't recall entirely what it ended up being specifically. I do believe it may have been the either the rear sway bar bushings, or the toe arm bushing though, since the parts I changed around that time were the sway bar bushings, the rear toe arms, as...
Seems like everyone (myself included) so far would prefer without the logo.I'm strongly considering picking one of these up. With their price, it would be a cheaper option for me than finding and buying a good core, and then having the fittings, coating, and baffles done.Looks like we both...
Updates from the people who got these? I actually just stumbled across these and made a thread about them myself. Good to see others have checked them out as well.
I've been digging some more, found another ad with more detail.Automotive Engineering Racing LLCValve cover fits 1G and 2G DSMSpecification. There are two large 18 millimetre (7/10'') holes for the AN fitting.
This valve cover retain a baffle for original manufacture setup and...
I've been on the hunt for a valve cover fitted with 10AN fittings for a catch can setup to help alleviate crankcase pressures as I up the power on my build. Since I don't really want to go through the hassle/cost of modifying and fitting a valve cover with the vents myself, I've been trying to...
Sorry if I missed it, but did you verify your timing marks all line up correctly? Other than throttle body or ECU/electrical issue, the only other obvious thing i could think of is an issue with your timing.
I would say the stock cams are the "slow" part of your setup. Not that the stockers can't be pushed to perform, but given that you have all of the basics covered, a cam upgrade would probably yield the most power to dollar ratio gain out of any one single mod you can do to the car.Going from...
Do a leak down test to see where the loss of compression is coming from. Lots of possibilities on what it could be.In my case years back, I had an injector fail, causing a lean condition in one cylinder which burned the edges of my exhaust valves. I had similar symptoms: sudden loss of power...
Yup, you'll want it as high up as you can safely get it. Lay some cardboard or old cut of carpet down so you can set the trans on it and pull it out from under the car easier too. You might have to tetris it through the wheel well just a bit if your jack stands aren't tall enough.
Agree on t-case being easy. I think XC92 may have been referring to the transmission as far as the use of a jack though.Either way, there are some parts of the job that will take you longer on your first time through, but just be persistent and its definitely worth it to do it yourself. You'll...
Yeah, sounds like your TOB is about to call it quits.I've R&R'd my trans a total of 5 times now and only had a transmission jack for 1 of those times (which I will admit, was the easiest). The others, I used a piece of wood to spread the load on a regular floor jack. It helps tremendously to...
Any odd feeling in the pedal? I had a throw out bearing go out and your issue seems TOB related. Mine felt like I was crushing a pop can under the pedal at the very end.One way to check is by pulling back the clutch fork boot and peeking inside. I did, and a bunch of little ball bearings fell...
You could probably make it fit with some customization, but a blanket is probably the best way to go with the FP mani.I have the heat shield from ExtremePSI, but the mounting bracket breaks every 6-8 weeks (daily driving), and with how much I've gone through (time × money) to replace it the...
Yeah, P0300 while cruising at freeway speed and no obvious misfire -that sounds like its being tripped by a lightweight flywheel setup.Simplest remedy is to have the P0300 code "erased" through tuning.EDIT: totally didn't see this was 420A. Might be different that 4G63, but what I posted is...
I believe that is the random misfire code. Also tripped by lightweight flywheels sometimes. If the car isn't actually misfiring, the code should be deleted. Most people won't need a CEL to know if they have a misfire anyway. If the car is actually misfiring, then diagnose like a standard...
Over the past year, I've made some changes to the setup, which also meant setting up a new tune. The main tuning change being an e85 conversion, I also installed some FP2 cams, a ported evo 3 intake manifold, and a ported head.Something I learned about e85 is that it not only allows for added...
An update. I will never opt to run one of these on any engine again. I got my engine mostly assembled and finally added oil and primed it, only to find a leak between the ACL front case and my oil filter bracket. OEM gaskets were used and all parts were installed following the procedure outlined...
Checked gear clearances and they were within spec, I'll be finding out about the sprocket seal once I prime the engine. One other snag I ran into was while installing the oil pan, the center bolt thread on the pump was off centered which resulted in me having to pull the pan back off and...
I'll be checking gear clearances later this evening when I get back. I'll try to get a picture of the seal but there is a fair amount of grease slathered over it now.
I bought one of these pumps to use on my current rebuild in progress. I'm on this thread because I noticed out of the box that the oil pump shaft seal wasn't fully pressed in, it was actually seated crooked. When I pressed it in all the way, it appears to possibly be too far in. I checked my...
Finally getting around to posting these. Here are my timing and (93 octane) fuel maps that I run with my 68hta at 20 psi on my stock 7 bolt long block. I've made a lot of minor adjustments over a long period of time, these are where I felt most satisfied as far as drivability and power with...
Fuel pump (Walbro 190/ 255+AFPR/evo 8 or 9)Clutch (XTD stage 4 lasted me 20k miles of heavy use and abuse, only cost $150 for the kit I used. More expensive options are out there)Injectors (650cc will work, but somewhere closer to 1000cc will provide more room for growth)Most importantly...
Welcome! You definitely seem to have ambition, you just need a little knowledge. It'll take you far.First ofd, OEM maintenance items and hardware/gaskets should always be your #1 choice for replacing stock parts. There is no reason not to opt for them either, since they're easily obtainable...
My v1 68hta hits 20 psi around 3500 rpm and holds it well until redline. It has the kamak 9 blade turbine wheel instead of the standard 12 blade. The difference I noticed when I switched was more top end flow, and slightly quicker spool, but at a later RPM (start at 2900 full boost by 3500 as...
I just went out to check the head studs, they aren't studs. They're the stock 12 point bolts, and the service manual says to torque them down to 14.5 ft lbs and then give two 90 degree turns in sequence after that. I'm not sure how to go about or if I even should attempt to re torque stock head...
Late update, but I've been extremely busy the past few weeks. So I cleaned and resealed my oil pan while my turbo was out for a rebuild. Turbo return line gaskets were replaced, oil cooler o-ring was replaced, another brand new OEM pcv valve.I no longer have any oil/grim on my pan or lower...
I'm trying to figure out the same issue. Nasty rattle from under the car when I let off the gas completely while still in gear.Everything I've read has been people basically saying that it's just something you have to live with when driving an AWD DSM or evo. Especially with upgraded...
I realize this is an old thread, but I've just made an extension to my short ram intake to re route the filter into the stock smic location. I'll attach a picture. I was wondering if the same results could be had by shielding the filter in the stock location, along with adding duct work to route...
I need a replacement bolt, but I don't know what the specifications are to find one. I've checked some exploded view diagrams, but cant find this specific bolt.
Extremepsi sells an intake kit. Has a nice tube with a recirculation fitting, associated vacuum lines, and a filter with the option of choosing a k&n filter. That's the intake I'm running. Its around $150 for everything if you pick the k&n. Cheaper if you get the standard filter.
More people use the SRS exhaust than I thought! I bought my cat-back from a friend, not knowing what brand it was. I believe it is an SRS though. Whatever it is, it sounds great, and sits nicely. Some exhaust tips point at angles and don't sit centered. I like how this one fits like a factory...
Brandon, check your front passenger axle. The cv joint may have broken, and fluid may be coming out of the trans where the axle inserts. Start with that. If it isn't that, it's probably going to be time to drop the tranny and see what you find.
I just replaced my fuel filter a few weeks ago, and using a line wrench is a must! I rounded mine off even with a line wrench, and as a last resort had to use vice grips while unscrewing the filter from the top.I'm not trying to condescend you at all. I've run into many issues where I was...
NGK BPR7ES plugs @0.028"
New NGK blue wiresNew bypass valve - I recommend the Evo IX stock valve, they're ~$150 brand new from extremepsi. That's the valve I got to replace my stocker, and I'm in the process of getting a flange so I can run it on my current setup pushing 20psi. It's a direct...
I seem to have found at least one source of oil leaking. I found the the mounting stud for the oil filter that threads into the housing and sandwhiches the oil cooler had backed out a bit. This would explain the wetness around the bottom timing cover, since it only seems to be leaking while...
Sorry for the late response, gentlemen! Something unexpected came up within my family. Have been all over the place. I cleaned the grime and drove around for a bit. I found that the grime did come back around where the oil pan mates to the block, as well as some fresh oil seeping from the timing...
Its not always perfectly level ground, but definitely not a ridiculous slope. Haha. I've considered that as well. Possibly a combination of a little burn from long drives as well as the slightly leaky oil pan. Oil is definitely going somewhere though!
Thanks for the input! I will clean and reseal my oil pan as soon as I get the opportunity. I will update this thread with results after doing so.I suppose I will just deal with topping up for now.
