So little update I ended up driving it to the shop this morning, it was really cold outside and the temp gage didnt go up at all it was a really short drive. I'm glad I took it to the shop because it turns out the reason the belt came off and got shredded was because a pulley was one backwards...
I know why the battery light is on I was asking why the brake warning light would come on too. I have no idea what I'm doing clearly by my question and I'm not comfortable changing something I've never done without even a good diagram let alone repair write up for me to follow. I'd rather pay...
Okay that's good to know really glad I asked here cause I almost was gonna drive it pretty far to put away for the winter in a garage so thank you. Theres a really good shop down the road from me it's less than a mile away I dont think the car overheat driving it there so think I might try that...
I dont think it was tentioned down enough and on all the pulleys perfectly. I had it in a shop and they noticed it wasnt on all the way and they adjusted it but still must have not been on right cause it ended slipping off and most of it got torn off there was just a strip of the belt left when...
So my serpentine belt broke at least I think that's the belt that broke it's the outer most belt that's connected to the alternator, power steering and ac compressor but I'm not sure if it runs the water pump so I'm scared to drive it until I know for sure. I drove it home after it broke and the...
That's what I meant when I said I was doing the mod, thanks. Those kits that reinforced the handles aren't available anymore unless you build your own or buy a used one.
One of my door handles snapped like usual with these cars and the other one is on the way out. I was wondering wether there is a OEM replacement brand that sells good handles or if I should just spend the $70ish for new OEM handles. I plan on doing the mod that makes the doors pop open almost...
http://www.4g64.com/users/raycer97/2g_parts.htm never got finished but it's a good start. There are write ups out there I just don't have the links on hand atm. Do some digging they'll show up
I have a RM rear sway and noticed a positive improvement, granted the car had no rear sway bar before that. I'm just trying to get rid of some of the cowl shake and get the car as tight as possible. I want the RRE bar but they are a pain to order from. I'll try with them one more time and if I...
So I have a 99 eclipse spyders gs with the 4g64. I'm guessing I'd buy one designed for the gst or gsx since my battery is in the same spot unlike the 420a eclipses. I just want to confirm this before I buy one. Also I'm thinking of either getting the RRE bar or a DC sports bar, any...
Forgot to mention that you should probably upgrade your clutch to something more durable and throw in a lightweight flywheel while you're at it. From what I've read the stock clutch on the N/A spyders don't handle the increased power well.
I wish I had too, so many 3gs at the junk yards when I go it would have been easy to find. I guess I'll just change the bushings at this point though, I planned on doing some other bushings on the car anyway. I'm going with the RM racing sway bar, I've heard good things about them
I just bought these off a vendor here, I regret not buying them new but I'd don't want to spend another $150 or more on new ones. They honestly arent that bad other than the bushings or whatever, they are just dirty. The part you linked isn't the one I have here, I bought this control arm...
I personally haven't as my car is already manual so I've never looked into it but I can say that I believe the 4g64 manual transmission bolts up the same as the 4g63 turbo cars, the difference is the gearing. So you may be able to use either transmission for the swap. I'd google it and read the...
Plenty of people have. Your best sources are http://web.archive.org/web/20050304031519/http://www.4g64.150m.com/curtspyder.html and also http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=52The first site I linked has a good write up on the head swap as well as many other mods you can do to GS...
FastWayRacer claims this http://www.fastwayracer.com/Forced-Induction-Turbo-Kits/c1_3/p3302/95-05-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-4G64-2.4L-SOHC-T3/T4-Turbo-Kit/product_info.html turbo kit will fit 95-05 eclipses with the 4g64 engine. Is that just bs? Because the 4g64 in the 3g eclipse is rotate 180°...
Well I attempted it and as usual, things did not go well. Just about everybolt broke on me from being old rusty and proabbly over tightened from previous owners. There were already a ton of bolts broken or missing from them. Also couldn't get the bolts off the frama rail because I dont have a way...
I went a head and took advantage of that great deal and just ordered a set. Thanks for sharing that with me zero. It works out that they are GSX springs with my car having the weight of the convertible componets in the rear.
I believe the red springs are from the sportline-kit that are lower than the black pro-kit. I've also heard others say the sportline will drop the car too low.
I plan on getting a Eibach pro-kit for my spyder gs and a set of Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable struts and 18" XXR 527 rims (currently have 17"s) which leads me to my questions. Will the car rub and will I need a camber kit? Im just using the car for daily driving, I'm not trying to autocross...
Was going to post this exact question but you already did so bump to this post. Also anyone know any way to contact the owner of the site so we can see if they could reupload the tutorials or something? If not any other good tutorials with pictures on the front bumper removal?
I just bought a water proof car cover made by rain x and throw it over my car when it's parked outside and it's raining consistently. I store it in my trunk when I don't need it. It only seems to leak if you let it sit in the rain for a while and water has a chance to build up. When I used to...
Im looking for any recommended mechanics that know these cars well in the Rhode Island area. My car has a stock 4G64 and I've had some bad experiences with the last shop I took it to. Just looking for recommendations.
I have to add about a quart of oil to my 99 spyder every couple hundred miles or so because the oil is either burning, leaking, or both. It is only happening when the car is driving because there is no oil underneath the car. After driving the car for about 15-20 minutes the oil light will...
So I was checking my brakes and noticed that the front passenger tie rod bushing is... well looks like this. Wondering how bad it is to drive on it like this. Im taking to to a shop this Saturday for an engine mount replacement and I'm going to have them take a look at it then but is it safe to...
So I took out the switch box that has the cruise control, fog lights, and power mirror switches on it to fix my cruise control switch and found that the power mirror plug was missing and I looked around but have no idea where the hell it could have gone. The power mirrors never worked from the...
It actually surprisingly doesn't, which leads me to my next question. Is it okay to drive it like this until Im able to get the part in and get it fixed?
I'm not that mechanically inclined so excuse me if I'm wrong with this being an engine mount but i think that's what it is. Any way it looks worn out should it be replaced? I just had my belts changed and I figured my mechanic would have said something if it needed to be changed but at the same...
I'm not sure which part is the actual sensor and then how to remove it. I've included a picture for reference. It's a spyder gs so this is a 4G64 air intake.
This is a random image I found online just to show what I was talking about, mine are stock.Does it pop out the front or behind? Mine are already sorta popping out the front because the previous owner put them in wrong.
In this picture I circled the two items I'd like to know how to remove. One being the obvious fog light housing on the left, the plastic piece that holds the fog light in place. Could find a lot on how to remove the bulbs, but nothing about removing the housings themselves. The second item is on...
