Just got done swapping the Rear diff out and I gotta say it aint that bad.. minus the two stupid bolts to the rear bow support ...anyone here have a ring and pinion set they wanna sell me so I can rebuild this 4 bolt and have a spare around?... plus is there an easier way to fill the rear diff?
yeah just lookin to rebuild this 4 bolt for a spare, i ordered a new used 4bolt for a decent price. I think i may take a couple pics and make a small write uphaving an issue trying to seat the axles into the diff all the way til they are flush.... any suggestions?!had a hard time seating the...
well I got home today after work and pulled the drain and fill plug... sure enough tons of metal shavings.. and a few chucks in the drain pan... now if there was only a way to get the 4 hub bolts/nuts loose!??!!?!?
sorry forgot to put my .02cents in... if you weren't too concerned on prices you could strip both down, 1g/2g piston rod combo, 6bolt block, 7bolt head, then the only thing you would need is the adapter to convert 6bolt to 2nd gen trans... and lastly, yes this topic has been discussed a billion...

could be a worn piece of your suspension adding to your tire issue, most bigger repair shops have a road force machine where they can mount the tire to the machine and test for flaws in just the rims and tires..
jacked up the rear end and disconnected the drive shaft and then seperated them moved the ujoint an flange over .. spread my arms and made both tires go same direction... sounds faint but i still think rearend
I couldnt hear it jacked up.. the driveshaft running through the carrier bearing looks to be sagging a bit but all i heard while rotating the tires by hand was the rear brakes lightly dragging on the rotors (normal)
the driveshaft would start to rotate and then not rotate past about an inch but...

has anyone worked on 1g rearends before ?.. I think the diff might be shot I am getting a wierd ping sound while slowly driving forward but the noise comes from the rear end
some of the earlier posts dont quite explain the symptom but once i start the car up its fine once i start to move forward there is a loud ping sound ( like an aluminum bat hitting a metal fence post ) kind of every foot or two and not quite sure where to look:coy:
try pulling the starter and putting voltage to it .. could have a bad wire lead or plunger stuck.. hard telling also look for a short to ground in your main wiring harness
