I was smart and didn't waste my time pulling out a transmission just to change a center diff lol...so no I didn't run through each gear first. Also I didn't touch anything that had to do with shifter cables. Everything worked great before the diff install. I used a diagram to reassemble...
Ok so as it turns out, my center diff spider gears were busted. I welded my diff. When I put it back in and filled it up with gear oil I immediately noticed something was wrong as soon as I touched the shifter. I am locked out of 2nd, 4th and reverse. Also when I let out on the clutch in...
I had a lot on my plate for today..didn't have time but I'll start back on it tomo eve..my vid shows my lack of progress..I really appreciate your help btw Colt:thumb:
Ok so I drained the tranny, tcase and rear diff. The tranny was full of glitter .What could it be? The oil was silver. Could it be the center diff?
Tranny is giving me issues. It made a weird sound and it would no longer go forward. When I tried to go it almost sound as if it was a grind. It goes into gear good and I can let off the clutch good but when the clutch engages it makes a weird grind type noise. I put it in reverse and it went...
PieEyedPiper I hope what you posted is a correct way to tell. I trust you on this but here is what I found after doing this test.....It's my rear diff. If it matters, I DO NOT have the LSD rear. DSM FML!!! :banghead:
kchazz...YES!!! My 1st and 2nd slip a lil bit but once you hammer down on the gas it will take a sec, but it grabs and will snap your neck back and go! 3-5 do not slip though? I took my tcase off and inspected it by turning input and outputs and it felt good. I hear a bad center diff can cause a...
How is it that my rear is bad when I can turn my driveshaft and the rear wheels spin??? Whatever is going on is inside of my trans, hence the noise in the video when I move to driver side and put camera under the car and by transmission. I'm not saying any of you are wrong..I just don't...
Took my kids to the creek for some fun this weekend and car sunk where I parked it. Had to get pulld out by a passerby. I noticed my rear tires would not spin. I got home and startd replacing my axle due to a clunking noise in front and found the last .5 in of my int shaft was stripped. Could...
Is the other motor built or stock? What most ppl do is drive it til the wheels fall off. I think it's a good idea to keep what you have and depending on your budget, slowly build up another one while you're putting your daily miles on the original engine. Totally up to your budget though..
While your head is pulled dont forget to have it resurfaced and inspected for cracks. Also, make sure that you use new head bolts. I recommend ARP bolts. Just try to clean everything as you go. If you have some chem dip you could soak all your parts for a couple hours and they'd come out looking...
Ok, I have searched threads only to find info that really makes no sense to someone who has never attempted this job. So sorry if this has already been covered but I NEED help! In the morning, I'll be putting in a new Tcase with a new yoke. The yoke came with the u joint and a bunch of clips...
There is a plug that is on your clutch pedal that has been unhooked by a previous owner. This allows you to start your car without using the clutch and minimizes wear and tear on your thrust bearing(which causes crankwalk) so it's for the best! Leave it as is!
If you're worried about any damage to the engine, do a compression test on it. After that, if your still worried, tear the head off and look inside. 420a's are great motors! I'm almost sure the heads were developed by Lotus(someone correct me here) and most of them develope oil leaks after 100k...
If I were you, I'd def build up the trans first. Otherwise it'll be like over filling your glass of milk(silly analogy) You can't cram that much power into a tranny built for a 210hp engine and expect it not to explode on you. Im actually surprised it hasn't yet...Good luck!!
Thanks tametalon, I will def check that too! I never thought about that but as far as I could tell there are no abrasions anywhere except the yoke(lets hope)
hey im on my break but i did have to replace the yoke as well...the hwy filed it down to a wedge shape lol...I have all these parts and 2ft of snow to deal with..
Ok, so here is the pic, the yoke, while still attached to the shaft, came out of the xcase while driving, I also noticed right before it happened hearing a noise under the car. Thanks for the advice, I have a new Xcase now, with the old one, when the shaft hit the hwy, it bounced up and busted...
I thought the same thing until we ebraked her and tried to take off. The engine moved quite a bit..how does the power ratio work to the wheels? Is more power sent to the rear wheels than the front when taking off? This is the slipping im wondering about..Thanks
I have a 97' GSX with a slipping problem..Im not too familiar with VC so any help would be greatly appreciated. I bought a GSX that had been owned by a rocket scientist(sarcasm) and after driving it for about 200 miles, I began having major problems. He claims it has a new clutch in it but I've...
Ok folks, here's the story..I have a 1997 GSX and I am new to the DSM world. This is my first turbo. Now the problem..Car has a slight miss at idle. When taking off if sputters and putts about until the turbo kicks in or WOT. Then it just takes off! :confused:I have a slight feeling this may...
