Ok so... another twist in the plot arises... i have told you all about the 2g that i was going to use for funding, i have decided i do really need a car that gets better mpgs than my 02 silverado or the wifes lq9 trans am. I also decided i like 2gs they look sweet. So i (and my wife) decided we...
The plan is for it to be a drivable machine sometime this winter. For some reason i never seem to get my AWD in the winter, just my truck:idontknow: which isnt bad but i want that all wheel feel during the slipperies... we'll see what happens thru the spring, summer, and fall. I plan to keep...
So I woke up:boring:, had my coffee with the wife, ate breakfast, and then i pulled off the front cover and the crankshaft. The main bearings were about to let go, the rest of the BS bearings were about to let go, and the rod bearings looked alright. The journals to the BS are shot to hell LOL...
Mine had been sitting for a while with a bad turbo, i put on a "good" turbo and it was billowing out blu smoke... needless to say i picked up a rebuilt 14b and used the 7cm evo housing from the bad turbo and then the smoke went away. I know that is irrelavant to the head issue but thought id...
So today i took a closer look at the bottom end. All the pieces to the rotating assembly reek of cooked motor oil yuck!:barf: The main bearings look as tho they were pretty tired also. Im going to replace the crank i think now, unless a micropolish will suffice. Hard to say tho, i can feel the...
I have been super busy lately with the car... alot has happened... went thru an im selling it stage but shes still here. Sorry the pix are out of order in this tale so dont expect a story book experience kids... So i went crazy due to excessive mold discoveries and removed EVERY piece of the...
I love it! I have a lq9 swapped 99 trans am that has a built 4l60e, i love to do monstrous powerbrake burn outs with it. I also love it when people tell me its too bad i didnt get a stick, i just laugh. Seriously tho, the auto is a secret weapon for hard consistent launches even on street tires...
I agree with the spirtuality of them. I also am extremely sentimental about my machines. They too live and die as we do. All that have passed are lovingly missed and appreciated. My condolences to all of us and our parted souls. Corny or not its how i really feel.
Lol man you never came and got that turbine housing... aww well my car is almost a daily in about another week so maybe ill start seeing all of you guys at these meets...
This is a car i got out in the middle of bfe for next to nothing with a bad turbo and a grocery list of issues. I ended up ripping tons of stuff off of it to finish up and sell an auto awd 1gb i got from the same people. A couple months after i sold the auto i began to source parts for the...
thanks for the input. I took it out again for a little ride thru the neiborhood and yep im really happy with the shifting. I think ill try their motor oil next change.
Thats what I heard about their engine oil and i saw this is a true gl-4 rated lube and figured hey why not? So I filled her up with the brad penn classic gl-4 gear oil and I have to say this, WOW. Ultra smoothe shifts into every gear, even when downshifting quickly into 1 at low speeds. I took...
Again Im not asking if its good oil, or if it meets the standards for our transmissions. It says right on the bottle it is specially formulated for transmissions with brass syncros ( api gl-4 rated ) like the ones in our cars so i thought what the heck why not try it, as ive tried mt90...
Lol ok thats not what i meant when i said it was cheap. Im just saying most of the gl4 rated gear lubes cost alot more. Mt90 is anywhere from $14-$20 a quart. Perhaps it would be good info for others who are on a budget and need a better shift for less coin. If i dont like the brad penn i can...
Your slave cylinder could be getting weak making it feel softer. Not sure if you have done it yet, but you can fine tune the little actuator shaft on the master cylinder, especially if it has been changed before and not properly adjusted. Might try vacuum bleeding the system as well. One more...
Wondering if anybody else is runnng this same gear lube and if so wht are your thoughts? I am about to put it in my transmission that i just put new 1-2 syncros in. Im hoping its a good cheap oil that shifts smoothe and alleviates the notchieness these cars are known for. Yes ive heard about...
Selling a manual trans and t case from a 91 dsm. The set came off of a dsm I bought along with another dsm for parts. The seller said the transmission shifted fine before the timing belt let go so thats what im going by and also the gear lube looked near new when drained from both. $400 for the...
Good oil... Thats not SUPER bad oil consumption, but its not normal either. This is definitely shortening the life of your sensor. I would start looking into a rebuild.
Yes. Id do it I were you. If you still have issues something else is wrong. The 4.9 was designed for heavy stress in automotive application. Bosch says 700° celsius is its optimum operating temp for accuracy which is about perfect for our cars.:thumb:
Yes it's true. The new internal design does not utilize reference air but current rather. The air cell on the 4.2 is its biggest failure point according to bosch. If your looking for long-term reliability the 4.9 is by far better. Put it this way, if your 4.2 is fine and functions proerly then...
Depends on the budget for your build and what your goals are... For most the former will suffice. Unless you plan on serious big power and want a no compromises mind set then get the 4.2. Both get the job done, the 4.9 just utilizes better technology.
With maft you can basically "zero" out all the knobs and that will leave you with stock fueling. The dip switches will have separate uses delending on the revision of the box. There is also a wot tuning mode many users overlook, but I recommend a wideband not just a logger for the wot tuning.
So I posted a thread about a month or so ago showing the two 1gs I picked up. I got one running as of yesterday. Ive been picking away at it for a few days and replacing all the stuff the last guy took off for one reason or another. This car has sat for nearly 10 years!!! Previous owners ( 2 ago...
T case bolts come in two sizes: the long ones are 12x1.25x130. The short ones are 12x1.25x70. Somebody correct me if im wrong, this is off the top of my head and ive had a few during the last hour LOL.EDIT:Sorry, you wanted ENGINE bolts size not tcase ( told ya I had a few haha) ... Go here...
HA! I love it! Those z31s sure were fun. Sounds like quit the steal. I used to have one of those a while back, all I did with that car was rail thru twisties until traded it for a mildy built 69 gmc pickup that I traded for a 94 saab 9000 aero that I sold later on lmao. Nice find!
Ive been there before too. I just want to hear the truth from the previous owner even if the car is dirt cheap and obviously needs work. It's always helpful when youve got things torn apart to know wth went on last time somebody was in there lol.
So recently for $600 I aquired a couple of untouched 1g awd talons. When I say untouched I mean it. They are both totally unmodded, not even free mods. One is a 90 manual with moonroof the other is a 92 with the 6/4 combo as well as an asc installed electric sunroof. The 92 has been sitting...
