After first start, which just a quick start up to see if it would start, I found that I need to fix a couple leaks. One of them coming from a transmission oil coiling line, and one coolant line. Then I will break her in, not sure on the method yet. And perform a leak down test.
So I've actually got the car all back together, and have been working on it quite a bit, but with school and work and everything, I havent had time to upgrade my journal here.Basically, when reassembling my block, I didn't run into any problems, everything micd out how it should have, and...
No idea about the prices in Ohio, or a reputable machine shop there. But I can go ahead and give you the prices I paid here in Idaho:
Deck the block: 55
Deck the head: 55
Valve job: 195
Assembly and dissembling of the head: 30
Hot tank (each time): 45
Replacement valves: 9 each
Replacement...
Well, the obvious is the answer lol. Supply and demand usually regulate prices. Non of us here will know why extreme psi is cheaper for the actual in depth reason unless they work for extremepsi.
Sooooo, it's been a bit for an update. Got my head back awhile ago and it's pretty gorgeous how shiny it is. The block is in being decked and hot tanked now for the cometic mls head gasket. Just bought plenty of parts, but sort of had to go budget as I have been helping my parents out with a lot...
Imagine having balance shafts, and a fluidampr LOL ;)http://www.jackstransmissions.com/pages/keep-your-balance-shafts
this is why I decided to keep them. And it actually makes sense to me in the physics world.
So the head was previously worked on, and had been milled down before and was 0.011 under spec.
0.051 is our original gasket thickness, meaning to get a gasket before he mills it for me would need to be about 0.062. The next cometic gasket size is 0.066, leaving him 0.004 to work with to mill...
Got it all pulled apart yesterday. The rod bearings seemed to have slightly scratched the crank, So I am looking at getting it turned at the machine shop. Not to worried about it if I can take off just .010, because i'm not planning on running super high hp. New mains and rod bearings will be...
I actually had no idea about the free floating vs press on, oops my bad. Aand yeah I didn't want to do 1g rods on a 7-bolt, I knew that would be more work. I guess I will just have the shop check out my rods and pistons and if they are fine stay with them, and if not, get some rods and forged...
I think that I am going to go with just some upgraded Rods, just some eagle rods with arp bolts, for the bottom end. The 2g pistons should be just fine for the hp goal i want 300-400/450. I'm going to take in the block and have the machinist see if it needs any work to the cylinders (I don't...
Took my head into the machine shop this morning. Really confident in the machinist, he seemed to know a lot about our engines, and works on them all the time. I am going to have the deck milled, a valve job done, replacement of bent valves and cracked guides, and cleaned. While the head is in...
So update for today, I got the engine out. Have started dissassembly. Oh ya, and I got a couple torque wrenches (ft lbs, and In Lbs.) and some rachet wrenches woo
Few Pictures
http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/parts/oem_dsm_engine_gasket_kit.htm this is the gasket kit I'm going to get. Haven't got anything else, so I'm up for recommendations. And on the valve work, I have been debating on buying revised lifter, Brian Crower valves +1mm, and some guides if I can...
Update, these last couples of days I've gotten both axles pulled (intermediate shaft bracket bolts on the drivers side sucked, took me forever.) Drive line disconnected and transfer case dropped down. Just about all hoses and wires disconnected from the engine, I'm sure I missed something. Was...
I had the plugs pulled, was following quite a few different threads for advice. I never actually found out if the timing was okay, as the crank would come to a point where it wouldn't turn, felt like parts were conflicting. I could just do the head pull, but I figured I might as well pull it all...
So tonight I tested my CAS, it was fine. Tested timing using http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/1g-2g-quick-timing-belt-alignment-check.306607/ and found my crank super hard to turn when it was around tdc, Near impossible. Suspecting some things are hitting each other in the head. Compression test...
sweet thanks man :)Edit: in reference to post below. Actually yeah, I do remember reading some stuff like that. I think I will stick with getting the afpr just for my own peace of mind.
Update one: No Start. went through the ignition system and am getting power all the way to the plugs, and they are sparking. Checked the fuel system: I am getting fuel to the fuel rail, through the rail, and a good spray through the injectors. Tried checking compression, tool wasn't reading...
So guys, I just got myself a 1995 Eagle Talon, TSI awd. 90k original miles, bone stock everything. Clean and straight body and title :) I'll be working and posting updates here on everything I do to her. Have to get her running, as she is sitting at a no start right now.
EDIT: Forgot to add the...

So he is accepting 1300 for it. I'm probably just gonna go pick it up. And pray it's a simple fix. If not, it's still awd, 90k original miles car haha
thoughts?
In all honesty, I would get it if I had the money, but I just can't seem to get 5k all at once, and then if I did, and spent it all, I'm in need of money for the rest of the year for school and jazz
OK sooo more info.
Non running tsi: Said he drove it as a daily, and one day he went out to start it and it just wouldn't start up. Cranks over but doesn't fire. I'm thinking about doing a compression test on it and offering him 1.3k if it fails. Only problem is he lives 2 hours away.5k tsi...
He's accepting 700 for it. Going to go out And inspect it , ask questions about valves seals etc..Thanks for letting me k ow the kits decent. If anyone else has opinions or other kits post them up
So I am currently looking for an AWD 2g, and have found a couple cars. Just need to get some opinions from the veterans.

^ Not running, little information

^offered 4k, won't go below 5...
Yeah, I was thinking about driving down and performing a compression test to see if anything was messed up in the head, If it didn't hold compression I was thinking about offering 1.2k, (cars run expensive in Idaho for some reason), and 2k if it held compression
Currently on the lookout for a car, as my summer job just ended. So time to start getting on the DSM wagon again :).
What is you guy's opinion on: boise.craigslist.org/cto/4601099978.html
So after the swap, did you drive it around and it drove for a little while and it just stopped? Or you drove it, turned it off, came out to drive it and then it wouldn't move? Or never moved in the first place after the swap? and the tranny worked previously before the swap?
My first, as I said at the beginning of this forum, was a rush buy, and oh man did I regret it! Finally selling it so I can make an educated decision when getting my next car.
And with the whole maintenance thing I have bookmarked the tech page on all the maintenance things to...
