Really? Would you be willing teach us when it comes time for a rebuild? I've got my eyes on a performance rebuild kit from IPT. Just waiting until I need to rebuild it to do so.
Yeah. If it was driveable, I could bring it though any time since I'm working in Nashville right now anyway, but I don't have the time right now with work. Come May I will. We planned on replacing the axle at the same time with whatever we end up doing, since it's needed one of those for...
Damn. And my husband thinks I'm bad. Lol. I'd love another trans, since mine's already a replacement from a burn car, but automatic AWD transmissions are nearly impossible to come by. Last time I found one was over five years ago in Georgia or Florida.
I don't remember the numbers. It was over a year ago now. We were thinking the same, but we don't have the tools to test it ourselves. I was keeping an eye out for an engine anyway. Like I said, I wanted a spare so I won't have to be without AWD.
Just smoke. Otherwise it runs fine. But I mean clouds of blue smoke to the point of not being able to see or breathe. It was coming through the vents and everything.
Same here. Luckily, the engine I bought was from a state trooper, so I'm pretty confident there's nothing to worry about. He got rid of his Eclipse to focus on an Evo.
I don't know what happened to the old engine. It just started smoking like a chimney as I left the gas station. Shop said it failed a compression test and the turbo seals and o rings were shot.
I found an engine in Pulaski. My reasoning is so I'll have something in the car so I can drive it while I rebuild the other. I can't afford to not have my AWD at the ready, since my Prius sucks in snow and rain. Seriously. It couldn't get up the driveway hill in a dusting of snow. I had to...
I'm from the Midwest US, but I was directed here for a very specific hard to find body piece for my 97 Talon. I'm searching for the little body molding midway up the passenger side door and quarter panel. I have a picture for reference. Mine got shattered in a wreck.
Looking to buy a stock, ready to drive 4g63 turbocharged engine for my 97 Talon. I have cash on hand and didn't want to risk buying online and having it shipped and get ripped off. I'd rather deal in person. I already have a turbo. Just need the engine.
Thanks for all the information and ideas guys. I posted a new list of plans for Toothless in my build journal based on the info gathered here, in case anyone wants to follow along.
.:Change of Plans:.So I've been discussing some different plans for Toothless lately and have come to a new set of Plans. Still sticking with as stock as possible, but with some upgrades.1. The Apexi Megaphone Dunk exhaust is still going on, though now as part of a cat back system.2...
Sounds like a front mount intercooler would be in my best interest. The hills around here give the turbo quite a workout. Lol. But will it fit with the stock bumper?
I have one more question I didn't think of: if I upgrade the turbo, will I have to upgrade the intercooler as well? I forgot all about the intercooler since the stock one is so small. Lol
I had this same problem with my second Talon, Christine. It was the idle air control valve, which sits on the back of the throttle body if I'm remembering correctly. It had gotten stuck and it was idling at 2500 rpms and would climb when in park.
I found this thread with Google: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-cure-boost-creep-by-porting.186525/.I don't know why it didn't show any results when I searched it on here. But are there any other ways to fix boost creep besides porting? Just in case?
Cat back eventually. Right now we're just cutting off at the old muffler. Pretty much just for better sound at this point since we want to get the Apexi out of the elements before it gets rusty. We're not gonna do any major work until it gets paid off when we get our taxes back.
I'm running fully stock everything so far. What would remedies be? I'd like to stay with the stock turbo for now if possible. I just don't want to blow it up with too much boost. And how's a compression test and leakdown test done and what are they? I only know basics so far. Still trying...
Nice. Congrats! I'm unable to become a supporting member because I have a toddler. Lol. That's why my car is a slow going build. Daughter comes before car. Lol. I love loud. Exhaust has always been my first upgrade. I hate the fart can exhausts though. Lol
Ok. Well I posted a tech thread on it to double check since I'm not doing a cat back system yet. I just want my car loud and obnoxious while I work on upgrading. I'm thinking of just upgrading the turbo to account for higher boost, but My engine has such high mileage I'm worried it would be...
I've been wanting to put my Apexi megaphone dunk exhaust on my car for a long time now, but someone informed me from experience that it can cause the turbo to run higher boost. So I'm wondering if I should go ahead and upgrade to a 16g turbo. But I'm concerned that a bigger turbo would damage...
Nice! And really? I didn't know an exhaust would peak boost. I'm not doing a cat back. I'm just replacing the muffler with an Apexi megaphone dunk exhaust I've had sitting around waiting to be put on. Do you still think it'll peak?
I'm doing a street build myself. Haven't done any upgrading yet. My engine's running with 207000 miles and it's still going strong, so I'm waiting it out. I want to see how far it can go with the factory engine. I've just been replacing odds and ends that go out like the coil packs and...
Welcome to the DSM world! You're in for quite the adventure. I'm on my third Eagle Talon and first turbocharged monster myself, and it's been a wild ride.
.:Back on Track:.Wow, it's been quite awhile since I've posted. Been so busy with the toddler and money's been tight.Since my last post, Toothless went to the shop and had the blower motor replaced, shorted wiring harness replaced, and a short in the tail lights replaced. And later had one...
.:I Told You So:.Well, as I predicted, the Talon is yet again out of commission.Cause: Husband not heeding my warnings about replacing the bent control arm.He called me about a month ago asking me to come get him after work. First words out of my mouth: "Control arm broke, didn't it."...
No. >.< The idiot I put in charge of dealing with the wreckers while I was at work sent everything with the cars, even though I told him to strip them both of all valuable stuff. Only the stuff I had pulled before I left for work got saved. Pretty much just the stereo, speakers, badging...
Yeah. Both 97 ESis. Chicago rust killed them both. :(I might. I probably do somewhere. It sounds great! What kind of exhaust is that? It sounds and looks a lot like the 3A I used to have on my old Christine.
.:Lost and Found:.Well I finally found those long lost brakes I've been toting around in my travels for the past 2 years. And just in time, too! The Talon was in desperate need of new back brakes. I've just been holding off because I knew I had that set laying around somewhere and I wanted...
You can knock two off that number. I sent two to the junkyard because the frames rotted out from under me. Stupid Chicago salt. >.< Hope you get the tires soon. I want to see it driving! XD
Oh my. lol. Mine used to be home to hornets last year. That was a fun mess to clean out. Yeah. I about had a heart attack when I found out how easy the thing was to deal with. lol. They make everything else on the car practically impossible to deal with and I was expecting to have to rip...
I know what you mean. I hate this weather. It's so insane. One day it's 80, the next it's 30. I'm really missing Chicago now. At least I knew what to expect up there. lol
Oh my. That snow picture reminds me of my old Talon in the blizzard of 2011. lol. The car was white and someone actually thought it was just a big snowdrift and ran a snowblower into it. lol. It's looking good. like the backseat with the subs.
.:Faulty Wiring:.Well the wiring disaster has been fixed, no thanks to my idiot ex boyfriend. And when I went to install a new blower motor, I found a lovely wiring disaster that was more than likely the cause of my heater malfunction. I didn't get a chance to take pictures, but the whole...
