I recently picked up a 95 awd which shortly after acquiring I realized was swapped from manual to auto. It shifts decent so no big deal right? Well I was looking over the underside one day and saw the rear diff was a JFB 3.307. I later did the old trick to verify the cover is correct and it does...
I got it apart and found the problem. I didn't install the three synchro keys in the correct order when setting the synchro assembly back on the shaft. Once the hub slider and fork were installed there was no way to get them surther in around the second snap ring. Once we got that apart and...
Thanks for the input.I'm gonna try just pulling the end cover with it in the car to inspect hopefully to save me a little added hassle of taking the trans completely out a second time. If i remember correctly third and fifth are on the same shaft right? If so that might explain how one could...
Thanks guys. I forgot to clarify this trans allegedly has an awd 5th. Not sure how to verify that. It was something of a mutt trans that's been in a couple of Mirages.Anyways besides that, I rechecked things over a number of times taking the synchro ring out and making sure the spring clip...
Hey guys I have a 90 GST trans that I took apart to put a lsd insert in the diff. Everything came apart with ease and went back together just as well until I went to install the end cover. Everything is assembled and torqued and two new shaft locknuts.
Without the end cover on each gear...
hey i was wondering if anybody has painted that black inner plastic trim that goes across the top edge of the dash and down around the sides by the side vents in the front of the dash. i'm not really looking to paint the actual grey dash material. just that black plastic trim in between. has...
I just picked up a 90 Galant GSX from my friend. we've all been wanting it so somebody can turbo it. well i got it now. long story short, i'm going to be ditching the engine all together for a turbo one from the get-go. now aside from the obvious things that would need to be performed like ecu...
i've been kinda thinking about trying to get some of those cheap ebay m3 mirrors for the 2g and fabbing em up for my 90. anybody heard of or tryed this? i figure the worst would be i'd have to do some drilling and trimming.
from what i've been able to gather having worked on a couple over the years. it's a 6-bolt 4g63 running a 1g maf and what seems to be a complete 2g top end assembly (head setup, intake manifold, etc..) check and see if it has a crank angle sensor ### thats the one thing i'm not sure about.
correction, now that i finally have my information right, it turns out that the turbine wheel is a td05h, but the compressor housing is a standard td06. i see what steve was referring to now about his wastegate actuator. i've got some ideas of my own. i think i might try for this setup and see...
as it turns out, it is a td05h, which would mean, i assume, that it would connect right up then? because i've heard of guys pretty much making their own "bastard 20g" by doing this before.
my friend has a 20g, not sure which wheel (i believe it's a tdo5h) with a welded shut t4 housing on it now that was running a manifold mounted wastegate. he said he was playing around with it and tryed sticking it in a stock 14b turbine housing it was perfect. now i am pretty clear on the...
ok well all i've technically got left before i can fire up the galant is a little wiring. but i can't figure out mainly how to run my maft on my n/t wiring harness. because the n/t harness has a 6 pin plug which from the looks of things is a little smaller making the maft not so plug and play...
i'm just finishing up doing the swap on my 90 galant gsx and there is one main thing that i'm hung up on. i ordered my new maft and everything for the setup to run.
now the stock n/t maf has only 6 pins where as the turbo maf has 7. the two things i'm mixed up on is are the two maf plugs for...
i was fianlly getting around to finishing up freshening up my jsm cyclone motor i pucked up for the galant and i was noticing when i was doing the balance shaft eliminator kit it has two bearing. the front and the rear balance shaft bearing. but my question is why do i even need the rear balance...
i went to home depot and got some o-rings. haven't run it yet but they fit almost perfect. 59 cents if i remember right. definitly worth a shot. i think they were #7 or #8 style.
i was having an occasional mid rpm acceleration hesitation every once and a while. yesterday afternoon it took a turn for the worse. it started just mis-firing and running like total crap. well long story short it turns out cylinder 4 has no compression. head is fine. 1-3 are perfect. the engine...
yeah well it's not either. turns out cylinder four lost all compression. still moves and runs but obviously not that well. now i just gotta decide wether to fix it or just sell the whole car off
well my car would occasionally hesitate and feel like the knock sensor was going and it would feel like it would sputter like it was retarding the timing. this was only after running it hard and it'd go away after a little bit. well yesterday it got worse. as a matter of fact it's running on 3...
i'm swapping a jdm gvr-4 cyclone motor into a 90 ggs-x and the thing is, i really want to stick with the 2.5" n/t throttlebody instead of the regular little turbo throttlebody. the problem is machv has the turbo replacement seals but only for the 91-99 throttlebodies. i've heard of people...
yeah i gotta say my 90 tsi would get some decent amount of looks. both guys interested in it and girls thought it was hot. i've always thought it was 10x better when you can impress a girl that didn't really dig it at first simply by taking them for a ride in it or even better is when a girl you...
i'm actually down visiting friends right now at western looking for places this fall and well damn i just stumbled across this thread. i live up in traverse city but me and some friends are moving down to western next fall. as a matter of fact, me and a few friends were down at the gr meet at...
well i have come up with a new home-fab idea in my oddball searches for interesting and cost-effective ways to set up my galant. i started looking on ebay at powerstroke intercoolers (i work at a ford dealership). i came across the idea of factory cummins fmic. check out the link
Cummins FMIC...
yeah, the guy you bought it from definitly went to a lot of trouble to make it look like it does. the only thing 90 talon left on it is the wing. pretty cool.
some places might do just the bottom but trust me, you'd be able to tell. i think the grey is kind of a neat twist personally. just curious, but is that a 90 tsi you did a 92 laser front, and 92 tsi sides and rear to?
well i guess i fixed it. it turns out it was the driver for the speedometer inside the gauge cluster. i figured it out when i swapped the gauge cluster from my friend's 94 and it worked like new. the only was that the tach didn't work cuz it wasn't a 90 cluster. so i swapped the whole speedo...
couple more questions,
1: how much of a pain in the *** is it do a speedo cable?
2: where did you find the vfaq under for the nylon ring gear? is there some sort of test or inspection i can do to see if it is that?
ok, update.
i thought i had it fixed by actually adjusting the angle it was screwed in at and it worked just fine. then this morning it starts going nuts all of a sudden again going 50 showing 110. then just now i went and took off and got on it in first and second and the needle shoots to 150...
It actually started on my way to work this morning. i noticed starting at about 35-40 my speedomoter would jump up and down about 10mph higher to about 45-50. when i was going about 45-50 it was jump up and down between about 60-65. i turned my stereo off and it did make a little noise sounding...
the title pretty much says it all. i'm doing a full 4g63t swap in a 90 galant gsx and i want to find saturated (high impedance) 550s or similar so i don't have to re-wire and wire in resistors for normal dsm low impedance peak and hold injectors? anybody know of any companies? fuel injector...
i was looking at karking.com and they have full rebuilt 6-bolt longblocks for $1,150. it looks and seems like a great deal but has anybody had any experience good bad or indifferent with them? i don't wanna get a half-ass engine do be honest

yes it was. including the revised lifters.
i'm leaning more towards the headgasket. in the last about 1000 miles, the coolant reservoir emptied itself and is almost all the way down when i checked at the thermostat housing pressure cap too.
also i messed around with a 96 tsi awd a/t...
Well before I go into any depth about what's going on, let me lay out all that has been done up to now.
-Engine COMPLETELY rebuilt 24,XXX miles ago. all stock except for the revised lifters
-no oil leaks whatsoever anywhere. all gaskets have at a maximum 24K on em. valve cover has 5k (pcv was...

well when i bought my car from my friend, he had a local shop do a custom turbo-back for him. it's all welded one piece press-bent 2.5" dp and flex section and then right after the flex section it's straight 3" all the way to the muffler. the thing is it's not much louder than stock and kinda...
i was looking on bullseye power at their T4OB turbo. it'd be 750 with a 38mm internal wastegate and direct bolt on for stock manifold and downpipe. i was originally thinking a ported evo 16g but for the money it seems awesome. i can get 650cc injectors brand new for 200 from my friend and have...
well my 90 tsi awd smacked the side of a cadillac yesterday and needs basically a new driver's side. but, the motor has only 15k on it and is perfect. also the entire suspension and drivetrain are fine. i was thinking this would be the perfect opportunity to pick up a beat 2g and throw my engine...
