You can rebuild the 6bolt block and do a EVO ix head, but the intake will be in front and the exhaust in back. Anything can be done, but is the results better than all the work. I would just put the money into a new 1g 6 bolt motor and built head.
Every time I have used certain parts and had a question about its reliability guess what? That is the part that breaks. Internally you must use all good parts dont take any chances it will payoff in the end.
All of the aftermarket cams I have used have some kind of markings on them i.e. HKS, BR, BC, Tomei, GSC, FP. If your talking about which stock cams they have marks on them also. That thread that someone listed earlier is a good reference.
The gasket from JNZ worked perfect for 1991. Try that if not I used some thick rubber I had in the garage and made my own. It worked great and it was free.
Can you do any porting in your class. THe exhaust manifold, o2 housing, and intake manifold really help out with torque numbers when ported. You can buy all the stuff and do it yourself.
I agree with everyone that you need the ECMlink. I would also do the cams, put in the new lifters, and change that fuel pump to a Walbro 255. New spark plugs when you change all of this and an oil change to good oil.
The tensioner keep tension on the timing belt and the pulley puts the initial tension on the belt. That is why you first adjust the pulley and then release the key on the tensioner.
There are many things that can cause a slip. The belts age as they get older they stretch and or become hard...
Ok that is alot of things to go through without being, but the easiest way to do it is one fault at a time. Also they can all be created by one thing or many faults.First, did you install the new timing belt correctly. I have seen several engines were the timing belt was off a tooth...
My 1991 Talon had a bad compressor for a couple of months one summer in Missouri and it was horrible. It all depends on where you are in the country and how often you drive it. If you take one drive in Georgia in August you will not do it again. Just my opinion.
I like this forum all the people giving great advice. As far as mods that you can switch back and forth for inspections. The cat would be the first thing i can think of. You can get a test pipe and a good cat and switch them, but it may be a pain to switch back and forth. Everything else...
To really get a good idea of the amount of rust clean all the flaking rust off first. To me it looks like its not easily repairable though. The best bet is to find a car and cut the panels off and get a good shop to do the work. A good body shop will charge 1000 to 1500 for the cutting and...
Sounds like you have it all planned out. Remember to inspect your block when you pick it up. I have heard alot people finding problems with their block when they got home.I would not recommend the overturned crank though. It will work great for low HP numbers, but I woud be cautious if...
Don't worry what anyone tells you everyone started somewhere.
1. Get a manual Haynes or Chiltons they are both good
2. Get a DSM manual on CD it was alot easier on a CD
3. Goto youtube and type in jafro or jafromobile. His videos are awesome. I have read them a few times over and over...
I would not take any risks if the pistons were actually different sizes. You could like one of the guys said have them coated on the side to make up, but in my opinion the size issue stays the same i would think. Anyway the pistons sound like a risk to use. It may cost more money, but if they...
Hi I am new to the site, but I first owned my red 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD when it was brand new in 1991. The car was a blast brand new and sometimes I miss the good days. I had that car until I sold it in January 2007 after an in depth restoration. A fellow Soldier gave me a good bid for the...
The ebay rebuild kits we got were just a slight mm smaller or larger. The ebay shaft is not always a precise diameter. We tried rebuilding a ebay turbo with a good kit and it would not work because of this. Also the new compressor would not go on the turbo. Their qualty of parts is just...
I had a 1991 talon AWD and it made the same noise that yours did. When I took it apart to investigate it ended up being spun rod bearing. Which was really funny because I drove that car for a month making that noise. It was a small noise at first and it kept getting louder until I took it...
