I took no offense with the google link, I thought it was a nice touch!I hear what you are saying and I am trying to understand what you mean, do you mean that when you get BACK on the throttle, AND the BOV is still open, it reads extra air, which I would understand would affect the AFR...
It's limited to mid to low hundreds of AWHP from the factory, it's set to a very low boost setting from the factory, so leave your car there, right? Maybe only use the factory injectors, and turbo right? Factory exhaust? No point upgrading the suspension, they put it on at the factory.Maybe...
Your first example seems to be make sense, although I would argue that a properly adjusted BOV would not do this, but maybe it would, I have not really thought it through or tested it. When mine did that, I adjusted it to not open unless it developed a fair bit of pressure, but I could have it...
I guess I was not clear, sorry, my question is why the car would run rich in a situation when from what I can tell, it should be in fuel cut... You are NOT accelerating, the engine is typically revving quite high, and one can only assume the TPS would be at zero for many people while shifting...
On a DSM with a MAF, while venting the BOV to atmosphere, I have read a number of post talking about running rich if I vent the BOV to atmosphere during shifts etc, but I thought the injectors will be in fuel cut when I release the throttle all the way at a full power shift. How would the car...
I have noticed something regarding the front right axle, on an AWD 1990 manual talon, and I am looking for clarification, although I have it solved currently for myself, just trying to find out where I went wrong.I have three spare front right axles, it is a rally car, and they are ALL about...
Wow, you called it, I swapped in a second ECU I have, and did not think of it! Thanks, been pulling my hair out! I did know that the 1990 tach is different, I just assumed it was the dash that was different, not the ECU - in regard to the tach, anyways.
I am having an issue that when I press the throttle past about 80 percent(ish),1.9 volts or so on a logger, the tach drops off almost to zero although the car is still revving up. There was some car hesitation(I thought) but it does not seem so while in the shop, while logging. It seems to...
From what I can tell, (Can't test yet, I am still waiting for a few momentary buttons) I should be able to start and stop logging with another button, on the dash, using another GPIO pin, and assigning it to a file that does something like this...DISPLAY=:0 echo key F12 |xteDoes that seem...
How did this go for you, do you still use it, and does it log at full speed? I am thinking of doing this for my Rally car, to log all the runs in a day, without the laptop, etc. Do you have an image of the card for the PI, to save me all the work? :pray:Thanks!
Nice buy, looks like you are going to make it pretty solid. I might have a 1G ECU around here if that is fried... I will check. I am interested in what you find about the Feal coilovers. When I talked to them last month, they said they don't make them for the 1G anymore, so hopefully they...
I am trying to find out which shift brackets to use with my various transmissions in the rally car. It is a 1990 Talon, but it wears a few different transmissions. All of them do not have the shift brackets on them, I have about six in a box. Is there a list, or a way to figure out which...
Sounds likely to be the ground wires for the lights, many of them are shared, and can do exactly that. Just follow them, clean up the connections. Especially if it sat in grass.
Thanks for the info, the 3/4 fork and shaft are identical to the donor parts, other than being pinned with their extra pin. The other forks and shafts seem identical as well, just the rail ends, and shift finger/cage are different. The difference seems to be a deeper cut into the rail end, to...
OK, well I was only quoting their selling point to ID the part for my question, as nothing in the world is unbreakable, ultimately. For the record, it is not just a ground down EVO shaft, it is double pinned, which is why the lower portion does not break off like all the others I have broken as...
I am not sure what the shift rail and shift rail ends are, but the parts on the control arm, that I could not get the pin out, and the three rail ends(bottom of the rods) are matching. so basically I took the three whole rods and the control arm complete out of the other transmission, perhaps a...
I got that out with a bigger hammer and a new drift, not sure why I didn't air hammer it other than not thinking and air hammer was an option on the internals. :)I found the following, and have a question for you re: whether I can expect any wierdness....The lower 3-4 shift rod assembly(not...
I have done that, any other people like to chime in? This one has me stumped, none of the manuals mention it, I guess they either never break, or are too simple to mention! :)
I have opened my manual transmission, one of my spares, not sure if it is 1G or 2G, but I think it does not matter. I cannot seem to get the SECOND(closest to the housing) pin removed from the control shaft to slide it out. I am not even sure it is a spring pin. It looks like a solid pin, and...
I was leaning towards a small 16g, for the spool up times, what would the 14B hot side housing change with that?I used to run a big 16g, but heard the small spools quicker and is very close to the same airflow. I think the restrictor would make them basically even for flow, since I never get...
I am thinking of taking my car back to open class, so I can get away from the stock turbo, and generate some HP, but here is the problem.Rally cars are restricted by class to 34mm(open) or 32mm(production) diameter restrictors placed within 5 cm of the turbo inlet. This restrictor must be 1cm...
Make sure you have an O2 sensor other than that one before you remove it or your car will not run properly. It could be simulating a narrowband for the ECU the way it is currently wired!
Cage it, rally it!OK, well, start somewhere other than that. Most everyone here will likely tell you to check the Resources tab up above, read the FAQ section. It totally will tell you everything you could ever want to know. I, however like to talk about what my plans are with the car, with...
The antenna wire(Out) on many radios is simply the same wire as the switched power going INTO the radio, and coloured blue to come out of the radio as an antenna wire or a remote wire to power a separate AMP etc. Unless your radio has a diode inline, that wire WILL power on the radio. If it...
It could be an issue in a rollover, being roasted alive would suck. Always on my mind with the rally car. You DO however need air to be able to get into the tank, or you will eventually starve the injectors of fuel. Oh, and depending on the hole, dust ,dirt, water, etc. can get in and screw...
Your clutch could just not be releasing for some reason? Have you watched the slave cylinder actually throwout the clutch? If it is not moving much, that could be it, since your 1-5 shifts will have help from the synchros, (well most of them). The reverse shift is direct, and will not go in...
I never added the solution to this, it was really quite depressing! There was a tiny rock, and I mean tiny, in the oil line to the top of the turbo. The metal tube is 'jetted' with a tiny hole into the turbo, and it was bouncing around in there, doing nothing, until you loaded up the oil...
I dropped it off at the shop, have no pics for today. I am planning on doing mostly what you suggest, MJcanada, If I were to feed from the filter housing, is there an obvious spot, and I will assume it would be post-filter....Is there actually a reason to delete the cooling lines? I am...
They sure do, and seem clear. They fail so fast that I would be surprised if it was cooling related. But I do not know. How much oil should flow through it at idle?
I didn't even use the oil cooler, just the turbo. I don't think there was anything else used... I did not clean out the turbo, it seemed fine. From doing an engine swap to burning up turbos, I would expect that the new engine was not delivering oil, but it seems to, or that the seller lied...
I am taking a pretty good look at them, but not disassembling them completely. I have been caught a bit by surprise... The first one failed after cooking an engine. The replacement engine was in a runner, and seemed OK, no particular problems, just a car.So I assumed the first failed...
I can take pictures when I get back there, but they will simply show interference, as the bearings are failing, pretty much catastophically, the first 14 failed and hit the impeller so suddenly that it broke the wheel off. The play is complete, and therefore the wheels are pretty much...
Alright, I thought I had some idea how to keep my turbo from caving, but I have ruined 3 in 3 days.I burned up a 16G, and two 14s, a 14B, I think, and now a 14A.They only make it a matter of blocks, and cave... :(I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong, but am thinking oil loop...
Well, I am going to use Rally Anti Lag, via ECMLink 3, I think I will try the BOV both ways, and see what happens... I also planned to play with Water/Meth injection, but I will likely have to wait a bit, too many mods, too little time!I will post the results in a couple weeks, as the...
I will look there, thanks. To add to the confusion, they are talking about quench time, whatever that is, and too much turbulence if I go with too thick a gasket!Great fun!!
I am thinking about removing both anti-sway bars and wonder if anyone has thoughts on what this will do to the car overall. It is a rally build.Obviously, it will create more roll. I have DMS 50MM rally shocks. I am wondering if anyone has any real expreience doing this. I am hoping to...
OK, I have my enginge at a machine shop, and they want me to choose a head gasket thickness. ?!?I would have assumed that since they are stroking my 4G63 - 40 over, with an eagle kit, and they are doing ALL the prep to the block and head, that they could make this decision, but it seems like...
