The good:I have a 6 bolt block for sale that includes forged JE 9:1 forged pistons and 1G big rods. Has many if not all the parts you need for a 6 bolt swap into a 2G. Includes 1G head in great condition that has revised lifters and APR hardware all over the thing. includes intake manifold...
Wow. it's painful to read your post. Learn how to use periods and commas. That being said, from what I could decode from that train wreck of english:Sounds like a typical hot start issue that may be related to running rich. Can you use an OBD2 scanner to view the fuel trims? Depending on how...
I just don't see the harness being worth it. Do you plan to swap it around a lot? Do you really care that your modifying a harness on a 13+ year old car? If you use the correct tools (aka a very small pick or precision flat head screw driver or any actual pin removal tool) the job is super easy...
I am not sure how MAF_SIZE is used with the SD roms, but it has a major role to play when calculating LOAD. If you use the dsm maf size (~260) in the EVO rom, it throws your LOAD off (in my experiance, anyways). One would think that it would make sense to change this setting, but I found...
Yes, of course! (I did make those ya know :coy: )Good to hear. Then it is just an issue with the other AC circuits :-) I swapped the ECU over the winter (some years back) and when the compressor didn't turn on that summer, I suspected the swap. But it sounds like that is not an issue!
It is not 100% false. You acting like a fool. Buddy, once DSMers found out the the 98/99 ECU was flash-able, the price went up.--- anyways ---The evo VIII ECU is cheap. I got mine for $50 on eBay. And Keydiver (Jeff-O) sells 1.3M FLASH cables for $70. That is $120 total I paid for an EVO...
Update:Glad to see my excel document is still around and helping folks (first image in Hortanica post).I have been using my EVO ecu with me DSM for, I guess, about 3 years or so. Best mod ever on the DSM : ) :hellyeah:
Okay Thanks for clearing that up.Then the goal is to have at least 25 Ohms in the circuit but according to the OP on the EvoM thread, 24-36 Ohms is an acceptable range.
By the end of May I will deffinitly be installing a GM 3-port BCS to take advantage of gear dependent boost on my FWD! 204,xxx miles on the original tranny so i need to keep the record going lol! :D
Well, as far as the Pills are concerned i have read MrFred (he is the creator of the original code) over and over again advising that these are not required if you switch to the GM 3 port solenoid. I Think you used the pills in conjectural with the stock BCS to delay the pressure wave from...
Thanks Mike96! For clearing those things up. I will update the image ASAP! :hellyeah: Once i get the tune solid i can not wait to try out the ECU Boost Control and gear dependent boost control that is in the works for Tephra Mods V6.0. That is gonna help my FWD traction big time! :rocks: You...
Thanks to everyone for all the input so far, this thread is turning into the definitive guide for swapping the EVO 8 ECU into the 2G DSMs.The_Mork has already summed up the information for finding and modding the correct ROM so i will not go over that.I would like to update the physical part...
Hey guys, Great Work here! You have really put together some great information.I am assuming everyone who has flashed the EVO ECU is using the cable sold by Tactrix ? It is a shame we can't change our normal FTDI based ODBII cables from read only to read/write. From the pictures i have seen...
Yes i agree the IAT sensor will never show a different reading because of its pre-turbo/pre-W.I. location, BUT i would also like to add that the water DOES reduce the temperture of the charged intake air well before it does its magic surpressing knock in the combustion chamber (which you are...
There is a recall out for the lower lateral ball joint on 95-96 DSMs. i would make the dealership pay for the repair if you had to pay out of your pocket. :rocks:
:coy: D'OhWell i guess that takes cares of that. I will reinstall the 'expansion' tank today and hopfully be rid of this problem.GTM-What do you mean? I'm sorry if i worded the question wrong, But this was an honest question. i thought i read somewhere you didn't need the tank and thats...
My car keeps overheating! I believe its drinking down coolant! there are no coolant puddles under the car, and compression numbers are all 180-190. i keep having to add coolant and it seems to be ok for a day or 2 then it gets hot. no steam out the tail pipe, or coolant smell at idle, as far as...
I won't do anything to the knock sensor. I just wanted to know if you knew how to set the base timing with a timing light. on a 1G you ground the plug on the firewall, this disables any ECU advance so you can set the true base timing with a timing light.I read that you can do this on 95/96...
GTM, I'm trying to set the timing on my 2G (1995) GST. I have a 6-bolt motor installed so i CAN adjust my timing, But my laptop got stolen so no datalogger.I have read that there is a plug on 95/96 cars to stop the ecu from adjusting timing, allowing you to use a normal timing light gun to...
Everyone calm down, all that happened was the assumption that engine temp was EGT, but heres the truth:Engine temp that a datalogger reads is really telling you the water/coolant temp. You can not tune your car with this data. Your pistons will melt way before you notice any kind of small...
Hey whatsup guys, my name is Will and i moved here to Roanoke last summer. You'll most likly catch me on 581/220 and 419. I have a white 2G DSM (GST) with a FMIC and as of now: no spoiler, a so-so paint job and dirty 17" wheels (untill next weekend when i get my new ones on). Waiting on DSMLink...
Build yourself a Boost leak Tester (aka intake leak tester). The instructions can be found at www.vfaq.com or do a search for it and you will find lots of good threads. Too much air is entering the intake during idle and allowing the engine to rev up, until it hits the idle fuel cut at 1500 rpm...
Could be the timing advance but 2G's timing isn't adjustable so thats not your problem. Maybe the timing belt skipped a tooth? I think its real important to find out your Fuel Pressure at this point and see whats going on, that would tell us alot and narrow down the possibities. maybe the...
Your TPS needs to be adjusted and its vary easy with a datalogger, just turn the logger on and watch your TPS value. now loosen the bolts on the TPS and rotate untill you see about 10% at rest and 90%+ at WOT. i hope :o
I used the softwear and i sold it in two weeks. Its not that great and i highly recommend checking out www.obd-2.com for a much better logger IMHO :dsm:
I got the Alex peper datalogger from www.obd-2.com and i am vary happy with it. easy to use and not a bad price, ~$120 and it gets you all the information you need to adjust your MAFT, SAFC II or other tuning device. DSMLink is just badass because not only can you log but you can tune the car...
According to my datalogger at idle the TPS shows 12% and at WOT 95%, the ECT shows upto 212*F and has never gone above that (even with my fans not working anymore, i have to switch them on by myself). i reset the ECU and restarted the car and it said i was in Closed Loop for about 3 mins then...
Started up my new 6 bolt motor and noticed right away the idle was just as bad as when i took out the 7 bolt. The motor is running rich and missing alot. No CEL's. Well i hooked up my datalogger and saw my o2 voltage was .020 and that i was in 'Open Loop' (meaning the ECU is looking at the MAF...
Just in case you don't want to look it up i'll post it here:"Due to the inverted Cam signal, injector trigger wires will need to be switch on 95-96 year ECU cars with this wiring diagram in order to bring the signals back into phase. The difference is subtle, but the motor will start...
I think this may only apply to 95-96 turbo DSMs. RRE has explained it alot better then i can so check there. www.roadraceengineering.com or close to that :shhh:
Basically the plug wires are real easy, just swap the wires from one coil pack to the other. from left to right the wires use to be { 4 1 } { 2 3 } now you will make it like this { 2 3 } { 4 1 } ... that has to be done on any year 2G.At RRE's website under the CAS section you will see...
it goes in to limp mode? now i see the importance of stopping the CEL from poping up. There wasn't a problem until the CEL comes on, thats almost funny that the CEL causes more of a problem then it solves :thumbdown But my misfire occures as soon as the engine is turned on even after the ECU...
Did you ever figure this out? My datalogger gets a max of .17 volts from the 02 Sensor so i assume is dead ... and on the same note it is misfiring at random (but pretty often) after my 6 bolt swap. No RM CEL however... runs great once you get going. It does idle like crap.any advice?
Did you guys rotate the injector wires 90* like RRE's website recommends? It says to rewire the injectors 1>2 2>3 3>4 4>1 ... did it help? How did you guys dial in your timing? on my datalogger the timing jumps around alot. is there a way to disable the ECUs advance to set the timing correctly...
I have one question: Is the Random Misfire CELs that occure after a 6-bolt swap a real misfire or just something about the 1G CAS that the 2G ECU thinks is a misfire, and then throws the code?I was starting to think that if it is just a CEL then how would the RM affect the cars handling or...
kevingst, when you did your swap, did you get a 'real' misfire and CEL or was it just a CEL and no actual misfire? Did you rewire the injector wires at the ECU like RRE recommends? :dsm:
Okay, i just swapped in a 6 bolt motor. It runs fine, especially under boost but is misfiring randomly at idle; BUT i'm NOT getting a Random Misfire CEL. What i want to clear up is that the RM CEL most people talk about when doing 6-bolt swaps is just the CEL and not a real misfire, correct? My...
:dsm:The illustration I used was lacking in that it did not sufficiently emphasize that each coil will now deflect, or travel further, in a cut spring vs. its uncut counterpart. The additional stiffness comes from the fact that for a given amount of travel, the movement that was...
Just remember, like most everything else on your car, the suspension is a system, and must be treated accordingly.DO NOT cut your springs, it is a VERY bad idea. Springs are wound to very specific standards to be a certain rate. When you cut a spring you have no way of knowing what rate you have...
yeah nice, well more power to ya, its your car. i think half-ass and smart-ass says it all. i'm no suspension guru, and i'd try but fail to make sense if i tried to ype it out, but i know my stuff. I know a mistake when i see one. I reffered you to a spring manufacture because they would know...
now disrespect, to each his own, but Holy cow, is this were we have come? How can anyone suggest cutting the factory springs. i'm not even going to try and explain why, because you probly don't care. But for the sake of the rest of the world that might read this and think "hay thats sounds cool"...
i just swaped a 6 bolt into my 95 GST and had a huge problem with the ACT pressure plate hitting on the inside of the bellhousing! no matter who and how many times we reinstalled the clutch/flywheel/tranny.turned out to be a part of the bellhousing hit the ACT pressure plate. one time the...
