I've got a new turbo on the way. I'm going to feed it from the ofh with a new supply line and hope that solves the problem. Maybe I messed the other one up when I rebuilt it.
oh really?! It's a catless 3" turbo back exhaust. Plus an extra leak in the flex pipe for good measure. This seemed weird to me but I was gonna chalk it up to my old braided stainless supply line being partially collapsed or something.A bent shaft would have uneven wear on the thrust surfaces...
welp.... looks like the turbo saw prettttty much no oil pressure. Guess I'll be getting a whole new turbo and not reusing my current oil feed or drain because clearly there was an issue.Still weird how much wear is on the thrust bearing but there's very little wear on the journals.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I'll have time to tear it apart tomorrow finally and see what kind of wear is on the insides. I don't think there has been any contact with the housing at this point so maybe I'll try a rebuild and feeding it from the OFH instead this time.
Ya I used an OEM rebuild kit from the guy who made the billet wheel for me. It's just strange that there's very little side to side play so I was thinking mayyyybeee a bent shaft causing the thrust washer to wiggle while spinning? I haven't gotten it apart yet but I don't want to rebuild it if...
I recently installed a billet wheel and matched/ balanced turbine in my 16g turbo with a full rebuild kit. I ran it for a few hundred kilometers at 20 psi. It has developed a lot of lateral play but hardly any axial. I am running a 4an braided line from head and running stock return line. Im...
So I think I've figured out the issue. Checked my turbo and it has a ton of slop. Ordered a rebuild kit so I guess I'll be out of commission until that arrives. Hopefully that will solve the smoke issue.
any thoughts as to why it keeps going rich as soon as I let off the gas? I have my BOV before the maf.EDIT - I see that my throttle position never drops below 1%. Maybe that has something to do with it. Tomorrow I'll readjust the TPS and see if she's still blowing smoke. The only thing is that...
It was the Wideband!!Working a lot better now. Still blowing huge clouds of grey smoke after coming to a stop. I even got into a tiny bit of boost tonight and besides the phantom knock from my exhaust hitting the frame it worked quite well.I'm gonna try and fix the exhaust issue tomorrow so...
The honey comb is there to straighten and even out the air flow across the full area of the MAF. It would definitely throw your readings off, but at any rate why not just take a trip to the junkyard and find a new GM MAF.
They are really easy to get a hold of.
I dug out my old NGK AFX Powerdex Wideband kit.Gonna try to get it wired into the car tomorrow and we'll see what happens. Thanks again for the help my man!
Open loop log. I don't know why, but in closed loop as soon as I let off the gas (like if I come to a stop light) there is a huuuuuuuuge plume of grey smoke and it goes super rich before evening out again. Yet in the open loop log it idles super lean...
Thanks for the response dude. Yes I'm doing my acel/decel break in, but any time I want to give it a bit of load it drops down to like 9:1 or 8:1 and I'm worried about washing the cylinder walls. That and the amount of Grey rich some that is coming out is worrying.I also thought it was...
Hey all,Before I get into the issues I'm having I'll post my car info.92 Talon TSi AWD

You sure it isn't a bubbly sound? Are you pressurizing pre-turbo? Could be leaking a bit past the dynamic seal of the turbo and down through the turbo's oil drain.
How fragile is the plastic? It almost seems like part of that gasket that runs inside the timing belt cover. Not sure how the hell it would get into your head though.Edit: NVM the shape isn't right. weird....
Do some research on how to break in a new engine. There is absolutely no consensus among theories, but see what makes sense to YOU. Most will say that it takes quite a bit of mileage before the rings are totally seated. You could also pop off the O2 housing and see if the turbine wheel is wet...
Definitely ate something...What is the shaft play like? If the shaft play is acceptable and there doesn't seem to be any other physical damage I'd try it and see what it sounds like.I had bent some fins on my 14b and afterwards it honestly sounded like someone was blowing on a kazoo when I...
I've seen it before but I couldn't feel anything either. Just looks like maybe casting/machining marks that are polished by the rocker? Not sure, but I wouldn't be too worried if you can't feel them.
Hey guys.I got a stroker bottom end and when I was going to put my flywheel on I noticed that there was an extra piece in the new crank stopping me from using my 6 bolt flywheel.Notice the cylinder protruding from the center of the crank? Does it come out ?Thx!
Sorry to revive an ancient thread but I thought I'd share how I handled the battery fuse issue.First I unbolted the bracket which connects to the positive side of the battery. I straightened it out and jb welded it to the fuse box. Then I ran a wire from where the bracket used to bolt on to...
If adding oil fixed your problem then all the surfaces that require oil to lubricate will be badly scored. How much oil did you have to add? Was it 100% empty?Do a compression test and see if the motor has regular compression. If it does, maybe you didn't run completely out of oil and the...
So I'm troubleshooting a bucking/stalling issue with my 97 Subaru Impreza (winter car) and I just wanted to do a quick sanity check.I used my timing light on the #1 cylinder wire and it was firing away perfectly and the timing mark lined up. Then I put it on the other 3 cables and they were...
CEL was P0103 (Maf input high).I tried unplugging the Maf and it ran exactly the same. I took it off to clean it but I think either the maf is completely dead or the wire got chewed. Gonna try to find a wiring diagram and measure it out.
Havent changed the fuel filter yet. Gas has been treated, and I put premium in when I parked it. Sparkplugs are actually easy in the ej22 since they are angled up!
Hey guys and gals. I thought I'd throw this issue I'm having with my winter car on our forums since this community of car guru's is incredible.I have a 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport which I have absolutely loved in the winter for the past 4 years. The only thing I've had to fix on it was...
Hey guys,When I'm not wrenching in producing music and composing for film and TV.My girlfriend and I have a synth pop band called In Dreams and we just released our second album called Hologram. You can download it for free here - In DreamsLet me know what you think!-Nick
ya good call - Thx! I was thinking the same thing about the colour of the turbine. Seller says the turbo has extremely little shaft play. I'm hoping maybe the engine that it came off of (not the one I bought) went through a LOT of oil :pray:I really was just interested in the engine anyway...
Just bought this engine + turbo set up.Seller wasn't 100% sure which turbo this was. He thought it was a T66 but from what I can see online the T66 looks different.I appreciate the help!
oh wow really? So in other words - a waste of money!Thx Justin, after some research I'm not willing to spend time and money to downgrade from my 16g to that lol
hmmm might have something to do with voltage drop while the car is cranking? That's the only difference I see between cranking the CAS by hand and letting the car crank it.Unless maybe the piece that turns the CAS is stripped. With the CAS removed from the head, look inside where the CAS...
I was thinking that too... I might swing by his place and take a look. If he'd give it to me for 150 I'd take a chance lolHe's sending me more pictures tonight so I'll upload them on here when I get them.
I found a turbo for sale but it has been shaved. Buddy who is selling it doesn't know what it is as he got it in a trade. I was wondering if anyone could identify it.Justin, I'm looking at you....brand new polished turbo - Moncton Engine, Engine Parts For Sale - Kijiji Moncton Canada.
I used a little under half the can. And no I just sucked it in through one of the throttle body taps. I don't like the idea of pouring it into the cylinders ESPECIALLY in an engine with 200KM on it.Pretty much. I sucked it in slowly by pinching the line and I didn't put any in my oil...
Haha funny story:Ladt year I seafoamed my impreza and then parked it for a month. When I started it up and drove it I thought I blew a head gasket because of the residual seafoam. Finally I clued in, but I was shitting myself for a few minutes before I remembered.
Ya I just sucked it in the vacuum line. I noticed no difference but I really didn't expect to. I fouled my plugs by running really rich while I had an issue with my maf. So I thought I'd see how much
smoke it made lol.
