I believe it ended up being the case that the prongs were off. I had to wire the fuel pump directly to get it started. I ended up buying an eprom and dsmlink.
For sale is a '95 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, top of the line in its year. I bought it months back to restore it, but have lost interest in the project. It was making 430+ all wheel horse power when it was last running. I bought and installed all the necessary parts to get it in running order and found...
I agree with an above poster that the younger generation typically goes for the 2gs, leaving the 1gs for the older car guys. For reasons I won't ever bring up on this forum, in high school, every kid I knew wanted a 2G Eclipse. Actually, most the people I grew up with have no clue what the hell...
So there does exist a rally thread on this site:sneaky:I am looking to get into rally racing and am CONSIDERING doing it with a DSM. I currently have an AWD Talon, but I know that most people recommend starting out buying somebody else's rally build. Thus, I'd be looking to buy another DSM if...
Hey guys,I have recently been looking to get into rally racing. I was advised to get into a rally car that someone else built at first. So, I was on a rally forum and started going through the classifieds and I honestly saw almost as many DSMs(FWD and AWD, turbo/N/A) as anything else. This...
That's alright. Good to know.In the coming days, I'm going to follow the clutch pedal adjustment video from JacksTransmissions and see if I can get it shifting better. If that has no effect, I'll have to decide what I want to do with this car.
I just recently did business with ECMTuning. I reached out to them by email throughout the process of shipping my ECU and receiving it and Tom messaged back within hours usually. They were great to deal with. Not sure why he hasn't gotten back to you. Perhaps send another email?
I got the RedLine MT-90 in and it feels a lot better, but definitely still grinds. The clutch feels like it's way too soft and develops a lot of "slack" at the top of the pedal after a few shifts. I also did another clutch drag test the correct way, with all 4 wheels off the ground:
A quick update, guys:I got my fluids in the mail and went ahead and drained the trans and filled it with MT-90. The old fluid looked pretty bad, so either way it needed it. Went for a test drive and the grind is a lot better but definitely still there. Just kind of sounds and feels like a...
I wasn't exactly sure which bolt he was referring to, so I appreciate your illustration. Also, I wasn't even aware that it wasn't the stock shifter. Just noticed it looked a lot less rusty than others lol
Alright, thanks.I have some gear oil on the way. Don't really want engage the trans until I see what the fluid looks like and can check things out down there. Once I get the fluids changed, I'll do another drag test and see where I'm at.
Well, this might be a stupid question, but my car has a sticker in the door jam that reads:"<Caution> This vehicle is equipped with a viscous coupling type limited slip differential in the rear axle. 'Never' start the engine or rotate any raised wheel while your vehicle is supported by a...
I will do a fluid drain as soon as I get time. Any recommendation on trans fluid? I didn't want to go too thin and mask the issue. The problems right now are (in order of severity):The grind -- That's stressing me out and making me contemplate how deep I want to go into this car
Running like...
Well my only real experience with DSMs before this one was a GST I had years back. Bought it from a guy who couldn't have it where he lived (noise) and needed to get rid of it. He wanted $3000 and I ended up giving him $1350 for the car and $150 for two boxes of upgrade parts (SAFC-II, stage 4...
I'm trying to decide whether I want to drop the trans and go about rebuilding it myself with a kit from Jack's or somewhere or if I want to just wait to find a stock awd trans on the classifieds. Or maybe just part the damn car out and cut my losses:ohdamn:
So, a guy on another thread told me about a way to test for a bad synchro. I turned the car on and tried to put it into each gear without the clutch pushed in. I was prevented from entering every gear except 3rd(the one grinding) and it sort of dropped in and grinded. My questions now are:Does...
Well, I just tried that and 3rd does what you said. It falls in and grinds. All other gears are preventing me from pushing them in. So this means for sure I need to rebuild the tranny? Or just drop it, crack it and replace the syncro?
June 9, 2018Oh glorious day! Got my package from ECMTuning!ECMLink came in the mail. Went ahead and threw the big boy injectors back in. Hooked up link and tried to get her to start. No luck. Kept turning over and backfiring. I had asked the previous owner if he had swapped the plug order to...
May 28, 2018Tests and tuneupReceived my ECU in the mail and will ship it off to ECMTuning in the morning. In the meantime, today I decided to hunt down my old boost leak tester and perform a boost leak test on the Talon. Found a gaping hole in the turbo -> intercooler coupler. Wouldn't hold...
May 23, 2018Tuning SolutionFound a member on here selling an EPROM ECU and MAF on the classifieds for a very fair price. After much consideration, I decided I would take the plunge on ECMLink rather than black box tuning on behalf of the fact that I am not experienced with tuning and there...
May 14, 2018:Attempt to get it to start so I can have a better idea of what I'm dealing with.In order to run with the current mods, I'd need a tuning solution which I do not have at this point. So I decided to revert back to stock injectors to get the car started. Got the fuel rail pulled...
May 13, 2018:When I was 18, I bought a '95 Eclipse GST. Kept it for a few years. Loved the car, but after getting the news of having a baby on the way, I decided it was time to sell the project and focus on family for a while. Well, fast forward a few years, my son is now almost 4, and I have...
Hi Tuners, still in the process of going through this Talon and trying to get things in order. I got my ECMLink installed and got it running (like sh**, but running nonetheless) enough to drive it. I got it out on the road and when I shifted 2/3 it grinded going in to 3rd. Sometimes it'll grind...
So I bled the clutch again. Pumped and released it like 15 times just to be sure and it still is grinding going into 3rd and 4th:notgood: I am really hoping that since it's a couple of gears that are doing it, it isn't syncros. Can't really find much info on gear grinds in DSMs though:hmm:
Yeah it looks to be in the downpipe. So I can just replace that with the WB sensor, pin it to my ECU (pin 75 I believe it is) and be good to go? Then I wouldn't need to weld a new bung. Yeah maybe I'll look into getting a SD setup. I'll watch the classifieds and see if any pop up.I use NGK...
Out here changing the plugs now. Hoping that miss goes away. These things are fouled to hell. Thinking about experimenting with seafoam, never tried it before.
Well damn...I just got this MAF installed. I've been thinking more and more about SD. What's the equipment cost of that roughly? Maybe I'll just get a new BOV.The exhaust is 3" straight pipe cut about under the driver seat. I see the front 02 in the downpipe, but I think that's the only 02...
Damn, I wanted to get rolling with this. Idk when I'll be able to get the sensor installed because I'll have to tow it to a muffler shop:cry:I have a boost gauge and I think that gauge works (hopefully). I was just too busy worrying about shifting when I took it out on the drive last night to...
Quick update:I got link installed. Wouldn't start, so I swapped the plugs and it fired right up. Idling pretty high and sounds like it's missing a little. I took it down the road and it felt like I wasn't building boost, although I can't verify that. The previous owner had told me there was a...
Last week I fixed all the boost/vacuum leaks I could find. When I finished, it was only dropping about 5-10 PSI/min. Not sure how exact it needs to be, but it's definitely a lot better than it was before. It wasn't even holding compression. When I'd put air in, it'd be out within a few seconds...
Yeah that's something I noticed that is on my list of things to look into. On my other DSM, I had a recirculated Greddy Type S that worked well with the 2G MAF.
Well, that's definitely good to know! I asked him that very question because I too thought it sounded unlikely that all of them were bad. He told me he tested them on other cars and they were all bad. Why he felt the need to included a pile of unusable MAfs in the trunk, I do not know. I did...
On the threads I've read on here, there seemed to be some controversy over whether or not to swap plugs, injectors, invert signal, etc. Mine is kind of an odd issue because I have a 95 ECU with a 97 engine and harness and then a 1G CAS. So, I reached out to Tom from ECMTuning and he told me that...
Yeah that's why I decided to go with link vs a blackbox and ceddymods, because I heard it run with that setup already. From what I understand, the 97-99 ECU would be fine with the 1G CAS since the wires have been swapped (that's why it started with the 98 non-turbo ECU it came with once I wired...
Yes, the latter. He had an EPROM with link in the car. He had many DSMs, so I assumed he only had one ECU and DSMLINK for them all. He sold me a blackbox with the car that ended up not being for a turbo DSM. Thus, I bought an EPROM ECU off somebody on here. Sent it to ECMTuning and just got the...
Hey i also have a dsm and 350Z:cool: And a Jeep.:hellyeah:Toy for every occasion lol
Just got my Talon, but yeah the deeper i go into the car, the more I find that needs attention or correction. That's typical of these cars anymore, unfortunately.
The stock 450's might get the job done depending on how much boost you're going to be setting the 16g at. I think most people who do a 16g setup run 550's - 750's. I'm not sure of your HP goals, but if you plan to go with bigger injectors than 550's, you'll definitely want to look into ECMLINK...
Hey, guys,I need to update my profile, but in short, I bought a 95 Talon TSI AWD and am in the process of getting it going. It has many upgrades and I am looking to purchase DSMLINK to dial the 1200 cc injectors and HX35 turbo in. I bought it with the wrong ecu with the car and am looking to...
Bought it with a car, ended up not being compatible with my turbo Talon. Has been tested and is in working condition. Have listed it on Ebay, but would rather give it to someone on here if needed. $100.Reach me at 9043275221 (call/text) for a faster response. Will mark as sold once the item...
I do know that this car is running on E85 with an aeromotive 340 pump. Does black box tuning have support for E85? When I see link and black box tuning talked about together, people often say link supports E85, but never say that black box does or doesn't. Anyone know for sure?
I do plan to tune myself. Don’t have any experience, so I’m hoping the forums will help me through. As far as SD, don’t think I’ll ever be going that route on this build. I’ve heard the 2g mafs can go up to higher numbers than I’m planning to push. That being said, the car is already set up on...
