That's a shame because the paint job looks nice. Unfortunately cutting out and welding in new strut towers is a job and a half. Plus, who knows what else you'll find with that much visible rust?

That all depends on what you're willing to take on. If the timing belt snapped but you got lucky and didn't bend your valves then it's a fairly easy/cheap repair. Before making a major decision I would see what you're up against. Put a new belt on, get it in time, and do a compression test.

You can eliminate the idle control valve by doing a simple resistance test at the plug. I remember there being a video on YouTube that shows exactly what pins are the coil.If that tests good I'd say that you're looking for a boost or vacuum leak.

Not sure where they found the whole setup for $100 unless it was eBay quality. I just bought the whole Gates kit with the water pump, tensioner, etc from JNZ for a little over $200 shipped. I'd personally rather do it once with good quality parts than take any risks!!

You can actually legally import a R32 Skyline already. There is a "25 year rule" so anything from 1991 back is exempt from modern safety standards. This is going to be another reason why our cars may never go up much in value, the muscle cars from the 60's didn't have this over seas competition.

The big problem that I thought about with using lexan is matching the contour of the roof. I like the idea but I almost feel like welding the hole shut would be easier at that point. If the carbon fiber plug was done right then the contour should be correct so a lot less headaches there.
