Thanks for the feed back. I'm in BFE right now so i may just have to buy a leak down gauge set. Either way I'm going to be removing the heads and sending them off this weekend.
So, I had a water pump go out on me and some over heating followed. I replaced the water pump, while I was at it I bought new timing components (Idler pulley, auto tensioner, tensioner pulley, and new timing belt) and did the BSE kit and put every thing back together. (all procedures were done...
Another update. I finished every thing up today and tried to crank it. It won't start, it rolls over and the starter is spinning it up, but I get no ignition. It's like trying to crank the engine with the coil unplugged. I didn't finish up till after dark so maybe I missed something and didn't...
Fuel will upgrade to a 450 Walbro, 750 injectors, and a new regulator or some variety.will be installing glow shift: boost, EGT, and oil pressure gauges. Also installing an Auto Meter A/F ratio gauge.DSM linkEVO III Intake Manifold and throttle body, and a VRSF FMIC.DNP Exhaust...
OK, update time. Finally got the time to start finishing the BS removal process. Got the bearings out using the balance shaft. Put the new bearings in using the balance shaft, blew out the engine, sealed it back up, added oil, no leaks. Every things good... right? Not so fast, realized I forgot...
So, I was changing out my timing components and decided that this was as good a time as any to do the BSE. I got as far as removing the front BS bearings and noticed that the transmission is leaking oil from the front driver side axle. I jacked the engine back up and the leak stopped, lowered it...
Guess I'll start looking for the parts, any suggestions? (Don't have a lot of funds, but I can save for things, and I believe in doing it right the first time.)Also, I am starting to disassemble it today, also buying a rebuild kit, going to port and polish it to. Will post pictures (warning...
Ok, So I just bought a Evo 3 16G turbo from a friend. I have several questions about where to go from here.1. It has a minimal bit of back and forth shaft play but no side to side shaft play. Should I take it apart and port and polish every thing and fix the shaft play?2. What company...
Ok, had time to do a boost leak check this weekend. Heard some air up around the intake manifold but didn't really figure that it was a leak. So we moved on to the theory that it might be the ignition system. My friend test drove it to get a feel for the problem first hand and said he thought...
So, I was driving to my grandparents house the other day and felt the engine start shaking violently. I slowed down and got out of boost and it stopped, I accelerated and decelerated several more times to test it, and it only shook while in boost.
However, towards the end of my trip, it would...
Ok, so, I am leaking oil in my engine. Has any one ever found oil pooled up on top of the valve cover? I am at a loss for how it's getting there, unless its shooting up and dripping from the hood of the car.
so the weakest link is the pistons, then the rods, and lastly the crank? (on a 6 bolt) well, depending on whether Magnus will discount a full rotating assembly for me, I may just get the whole thing from Magnus. Thanks for the input
Just found this one from Magnus
Magnus Billet Crankshaft | Magnus Motorsportsany good? or from the responses so far, just not necessary?bearing in mind that I am attempting to spin this engine up to 9K
I've read that stock ones are only good up to 500whpIt is going to be my daily driver for a time, my target is 600whp, but I want to build the block to handle 700 or more, just to be on the safe side. Do it once, do it right.Unless my version of "right" is horribly out-a-whack. In which case...
Was looking at a Manley crank for a G4CS engine, then discovered Manley doesn't make cranks for a 6 bolt. So, my question is, what companies make a good crank for the G4CS capable of supporting 700WHP?
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX for sale. It is a turbo 5 speed all wheel drive and in great shape.123k miles and counting.Ac and heat both work great.Leather interior in good shape also.Car has a couple bolt ons:3" exhaust,Greddy frnt mount intercooler,HKS turbo timer,Genuine Injen intake,Hallman...
do they not make a crank to destroke a 2.4 to a 2.3? The only reason I wanted to destroke it was to not loose as much RPM top range. I had read that the 2.4s can only red line around 7-8K as opposed to 9.5+k. I guess a better question would be: can a 2.4 be built with a light enough rotating...
So, If all goes according to plan, I should have a 97GSX within the month. I am planning on building a G4CS 2.3 destroker for it. For those that do not know, the G4CS is the 6 bolt version of the 4G64.Intent of build - I am going to use this as a daily driver for now and will probably road...
conversion seems like a real pain in the assMaybe I'm better off just ignoring the Spyder aspect and getting a regular manual GSXI'm just of the mind set that there's no school like the old school. Even if the auto was faster and better in every way, I would still prefer a manual. It's...
I plan on asking him to get a picture of the transfer case before I even do any driving to check it out for my self. the only issue I have with it, is its auto. Around how much does it cost in time, money, stress to do a auto to manual conversion?yeah, the drive train as a whole should be...
Got a guy that swears up and down that he has a automatic GSX Spyder that came from the factory stock like that. I was under the impression that DSM never manufactured an AWD convertible. Any one care to confirm?
well, I work with a mechanic out of my friends used car dealership, and I look forward to any wrench time I can get, particularly with an engine already removed and on a stand. My plan is to start building the engine out of the car and put it in when it is ready. It will proly require several...
I would say check the door very closely for any damage that looks like it may have been repaired out of it. It's possible the door was damaged, repaired and now doesn't want to line up.
I think the spool on the 7670 is around 3000RPM give or take a few, what do you think the spool time on a 8374 is? I am hoping to get it to road course eventually and don't like the idea of having to swap turbos but depending on the price of the EFR it might be worth it. I just always seem to...
I have done a bit of research on the subject but apparently not enough. I was wanting a de-stroked 2.3 for more low end torque and a quicker spool on a 7670 EFR from Borg Warner. Figured at that much power I would have to replace all the stock internals (forged crank and rods, aluminum pistons)...
(Disclaimer - This is off topic) How much would you expect to spend on a GSX to get it to 450-600HP, top end around 155-170mph using a 2.3L de-stroked 4G64 or G4CS engine? I was calculating about 14K on the engine and supporting cooling and turbo mods, and maybe 5K on suspension. Are these...
In the OP I stated that I come from the Bike world. I was using a slightly moded 1000RR 05. I wouldn't mind making a GSX that could do that thou. If I had the money :ohdamn:
you are correct sir. I am not sure If I am looking to road course it or drag it, but it will serve as a daily driver first. My past history shows that I will proly drag it, get a feel for the speed and handling and then set it for a road course. As I stated in the OP I'm not at all opposed to...
I did some searching after I read that the spoiler did nothing and found most people to agree that the rear "high rise" spoiler from the GSX is for directing air and keeping the rear stable.
Ok, essentially what I've gathered is that the aero of the GSX is fine as is, and there are no body kits that will really help that at all. (What about the big spoiler on the back of the GSX) its all in a proper suspension set up. Lower 2-3in with proper corrections made afterward. (+ or - toe...
