This my go to guy now for used parts with reasonable prices. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/vendor-announcements/464244-new-dsm-lot-98-gs-spyder-text-me-today.html
Not sure if these two threads will help you.http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drivetrain-tech/327131-1995-transmission-question.htmlhttp://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drivetrain-tech/35327-helllllllllllllllllllllp.html
They are pretty reliable if you take care of them just like everything else. I drove my 95 GST from New York to California in the middle of summer and had no issues. Live there for a few years and got a hold of 98 GST and move back home to NY. Drove the car back and pack full of junk with...
Just to let you know I have the same problem with my 6bolts rods on a 7 bolts crank. I got it from DSMgraveyard and guess what???? The side clearance between the rods and the crank was too tight and the rod end up eating into my crank. I would do what Bogus suggest and check the side clearance...
Make a budget and do shit tons of research. I suggest you assemble it yourself or have one of the reputable vendors on tuners. Your local machine shop probaly never work on a DSM before and they most likely will mess up your engine build. Just my 2 cents.
Lube up those BOLTS really good with PB buster or some break loose stuff! Carefull not to bust your knuckles when manuvering all that craps around and DON"T BREAK the metal clips on your boot. He's trying to avoid all that stuff cause He' is afraid of breaking his whole suspension system. I...
Jesus man installing those axles without removing suspension is pretty crazy. LOL! Another way you can try is remove the metal clips from the rubber boots and turn you steering wheels all the way to the left and see if the joint will pop off. Carefull not to let any debris inside the boots...
You can try loosing up the carrier bearing bolts. The two bolts that mounted on the ac bracket and manuever the transmission around with your Cherry picker. Becarefull not to accidently cut the axle seal. You still have to take the passenger side axle out.
Click on drivetrain and choose 2g awd Clutch replacement link. Look about halfway down the article and It'll explain everything

Are you sure that you have a virgin block because those look like NPR piston 85.50mm. Those are .50mm over piston. How do i know cause I'm doing a Stock rebuild with .020 inch overbore right now and my piston are NPR and have the same marking on them. I'm pretty sure your block is .020 inch...
Dude those splines are done! Trust me I used to cut splines. Splines are supposed to press in nicely together with around .001 inch or .002 inch of play for back lashes like gears. If you have badly worn splines teeth, you'll just eat them up really fast. I would replace those before putting...
I would ask him to let you drive it for about a week and see if you feel comfortable with the car and to see if anything would stop working after a week period. If nothing breaks by then you should be good for a little while. It's not about fixing the car, it's about how much money you have to...
Check the end of your crank and see if it protude out about an inch in the center. If not you're missing the steel bushing and should purchase one before installation. it should look like this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/289888-auto-transmission-install-problems.html
most of the stuff on your list can be purchase as combo on extremepsi. piston and rod combo, arp's and head gasket, OEM gaskets, and timing belt kit. Missing water pump. You only doing 400WHP so you don't need a racing girdle for the 6 bolts. The stock Main can take lots of abused.
EXTREME...
glad to see people take care of their old DSM :) good for you man!! I wish mom give me an old DSM with original miles. As for turbos you should try FP Turbos since you'll be using for Street/Strips and It's way cheaper than 35R for the whole setup.Diamond Star DSM Ball-Bearing Turbos For Sale...
welcome to the wonderful world of DSM. Let me ask you some question. How experience are you with engine building? Turbo cars? Mechanical skill? If you have low to no experience on engine building and turbo I would highly recommend start building your car with stock parts and learn how DSM...
did you check your fly wheel step? What kind of clutch you runnin? I had a similar problem and it turn out my fly wheel step was incorrect. All clutches uses different fly wheel stepping and .608 to .612. You need to research to see what is the sweet spot for your clutch.
Different brand of clutch uses different stepping on your fly wheel. You should always do your research on the flywheel stepping to whatever brand of clutch you plan to purchase.
I would wait until you do an AWD swap cause if you start adding more parts you'll just overwhelms yourself and = more headache! LOL just be patient and decide if you want more power or go AWD cause both = lots of works.
here a link for most of your needs for understanding DSM. Jafro is awesome with his youtube videos. I believe he's on here I saw a few of his post. Jafro's Garage - YouTube
I would go with Vrsf cause it's been proven. The quality of couplers and clamps is highly recommended!!! Try doing some searches on here and see how many people are stranded on the road due to blown couplers. Just my two cents.
Timing Belt VFAQ (Timing Belt TSB - ENHANCED)
My bad for giving you the 2G. And Justin Funny how the 7 bolts tensioner does not work for 6 bolts. I install my motor not too long ago and I used a 6 bolts pulley for 7 bolts motor and have no problem with them. I guess it does not work the other...
follow this step while you're doing the timing. Timing Belt VFAQNo the waterpump must go on first before you bolt the tensioner and tensioner pulley. Just don't put the pulley on the water pump.basically bolt down the waterpump jus don't put the pulley on them until you finish timing...
Try putting the timing belt and everything on first and set your timing and put back your timing cover. Then put the pulley on the water pump (not bolting anything down) Keep your hand on the pulley while jacking the engine back to the normal position. You should be able to wiggle the pulley...
Thank you Op for your useful machinist knowledge! I'm a machinist my self, Aerospace. I read lot of your post and you seem to know what you're talking. I've been told by some of the old timer in the machined world, either you're an awesome machinst or you're a regular machinist. There are no...
did you check your thermostat or thermostat sensor? Let it warm up and then drive around town for 15 min to let the coolant heat up. Then touch the bottom radiator hose to see if it's warm. If it cold still your T-Stat is not working properly or your T-Stat sensor. Check both of those. If...
You can take it to a machine shop and ask them to make a plug that will ensure no leaks from the transfer case shaft. The cost will depend on how much the machined shop will charge you.
I had the same problem with my old GST run fine on the freeway but tend to overheat while in town. About the same set up as your front mount and aluminum radiator with 2 Spal fan running all the time. It turned out to be my ignition timing. I was increasing my timing with link to make the car...
you can try the FP T-28 depend on your budget or the availability of the turbos. You can probably find one on here in the classified ads. DSM FP Big 28 Turbo - DSM Turbo Upgrades - Turbo - DSM Performance Parts | DSMparts.com
Depend where you take your car to smog. I used to live in San Diego and pass smog with my 98 GST with 3" downpipe and hi flow cat and 3" exh. Also a big ass front mount but I did used the T25 and advance my ignition timing by alot to run really hot with Dsm link. I got that bad boy to barely...
this will probably explain better
