The car would not pass the state referee. California is really strict with any type of modification, so it runs the risk of getting state reffed every time i drive it.Best bet is to wait until Dsms are smog exempt once they pass their 25 year mark.
Hey guys!A lot has happened with the DSM since it’s been running! It was featured on Super Street Magazine on June 2020! Unfortunately it blew a head gasket due to failing fans and over heating..http://www.superstreetonline.com/features/dsm-mitsubishi-eclipse-evo-awd-swapIt has been back...
No the thumbnail was made since we relocated the car to another place. I can’t see myself parting ways with it after 8 years of owning it and working on it haha. And correct. It’s now on an evo clutch and flywheel. As far as coilovers, it’s on the Megan racing EZ streets. I love them! Much...
And just like that she’s back in business! We managed to have it back and running on the streets as the worlds first AWD evo swapped dsm! We used nothing but evo & gsx parts for the swap (no legnum/galant parts)I apologize in advance as the build thread is not detailed on how to do it. I’ve...
Hey guys sorry I haven’t been updating the build thread. I forgot the login password LOLAnyways, we’ve made huge progress on the AWD Evo swap and I have been documenting everything on YouTube.I’ll post some general updates here but everything is done in detail and “person” in the videos.We...
Quick update! The Dsm officially has a full GSX rear end! Only needs the drive shaft and drive shaft hangers installed. We moved towards the front of the car to remove all bolt ons and get the motor out.We then removed the fwd 3g trans to install the new Evo 4 trans and transfer case to...
Sorry haven’t been active but I’ll be posting the progress from time to time!Got the car on jack stands and fully removed the fwd gas tank and subframe. Cleaned up the awd components and started cutting into the chasis for the awd subframe and gas tank holes. For the people wanting to do this...
It’s been almost two years since I last posted on this build thread! The car has been great since it was evo swapped and has given me minimal issues! The 2g has gotten many new parts since then, including a Carbonetics V2 carbon hood and authentic Bride Low Max bucket seatsOver time, it’s been...
Transmission is indeed the weakest link on this thing haha. I'll start collecting parts for the awd swap as the time comes nearer. The swap took around a year and half. Buying parts i needed as I went along were the most time consuming
I'd rate it a 6/10 in difficulty for ME
Took a year and half with countless hours/money with Dsmers over at my house helping day and night. I would not have done it by myself. I must admit the swap was slightly overwhelming since there was no how to.I'm glad I did it thought because I...
UPDATE:I finally had the time to drive the Dsm and take some pictures of it. I must admit, i fell in love with it all over again!I want to thank every single Evo and Dsm owner that helped me get it to this point! First Evo swapped Dsm in California and one of the very few worldwide! If you...
Both the Dsm(fuse box side) and evo harness we're used. It's a lot simpler once you start hooking everything up. Having an evo there as a guide really helped a lot. As far as ecu, we used an Evo 8 one. All we had to do is flash it to bypass the ignition system. The Dsm actually had its first...
UPDATE:
Wiring was finally finished!Everything on the car has power to it, so we moved onto making a custom manifold spacer (temporary) to clear the starter. Now working on its final touches before its first startup!
UPDATE:It was finally time to take the Dsm out the house and to the shop, so onto a flatbed it went.Fuel lines, walboro 255 fuel pump and Fuel Lab Fpr were set up.Harness was then routed throughout the car and motor.
Went out of country for two months so I was not able to touch it, but I just got back and bought a manifold that will be modified to clear the 3G starter. Wiring is also now in the works!
Yes, we originally grinded off a portion of it to give the transmission bell-housing room to play while driving. Once we saw the crossmember also hit the radiator, we decided to remove it completely. Might have to get some sort of tubular crossmember made in the near future.
UPDATE:Dsm is finally back on its feet after 5 months! Was able to get a set of Federal RSR-R tires that just arrived into the US. (Great R-compound tire at the price)Got them mounted and balanced onto the new Rays Gramlight wheels and I'm extremely happy it looks like a car again!Trying...
UPDATE: Finally got around to welding the transmission mount up around 6" on the chasis.Decided to remove the front crossmember due to having to modify it to clear the 3G transmission housing and Evo Mishimoto half radiator.Installed some Oem 3G axles and waiting on some performance...
Besides the oil and boost gauge in the Gst/Gsx cluster, there's no difference in tachs for 2gs. I've seen 2g turbo dsms run Evo Ecus but I also doubt the wiring harness from a non turbo is extremely different to a gst or gsx. From what I've heard, you use the evo harness in junction with the...
Good points, Ill look into that. As far as the tach I've heard i need to run an Evo tachometer to replace the 2g one :hmm: I am going to try and stay away from that, but if it becomes a necessity, ill swap them. I don't think it will look aesthetically pleasing though. :notgood:
Theres enough room for everything to work properly. You're right, some kind of adapter would be great. Ive seen people with these swaps overseas make some nice looking mounts for their 2g, but i don't see people Evo swapping their Dsms in the future, so everyone will have to make theirs work as...
Thanks for the link! I might have to run this setup due to having to run a manifold spacer to clear the starter. If the 02 housing hits, this will be my only option. So far my options are an aluminum 420a radiator (same placement as Evo motor and fits the Dsm chasis), Gst/Gsx aluminum radiator...
I'm currently doing an Evo 8 swap on my 2g. IMO it's not worth the investment. You could buy 3 Awd Dsm with the money you're going to put down on the swap. Here's my thread if you still want to do it.http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/1999-eclipse-evo-swap.502761/page-2
Thanks man :hellyeah: The swap overall is very overwhelming, but i have been researching and collecting parts for around a year now. Ill look into the half rads, that seems like a reasonable alternative.Ill also look into that. I did not know Evos could run 2g manifolds. :aha:
Now that the motor is in i had to start putting everything back together, i immediately ran into fitment issues with the Evo 8/9 radiator and Evo turbo hitting the 3g starter. The radiator will need modification to mount correctly, so im considering test fitting a turbo 2g radiator to see if it...
UPDATE: Drove over to ClutchMasters to change flywheels and they quickly made the exchange. Finally attached everything back on the 4g63 with no issues. We were ready to attach the 3g trans onto the Evo motor but first decided to remove the 420a transmission mount location to accomodate...
Definitely go with a wider wheel width and larger tire for handling improvement. I beleive your close to stock wheel specs from factory. As far as rubbing, no, you'll be fine. Run 18x10.5 wheels then start to worry.
To clear brembos with rpf1s you have to either run a low offset and risk having the wheels poke, or run small width such as 7.5-8" Rpf1s that have the concave look.Ive had two sets of rpf1s and my 17x9s did not clear my brembos because they had a flat face. I later went with 18x8.5s and...
Sometimes less is more. Get yourself some nice oz rally black leather interior for the best look. Leds, painted plastic and other "original" add ons look extremely tacky imo.
Good point. Going AWD with this swap is actually very possible with Evo drivetrain components. Some 3g guys have done it. As far as right now i want to get the car back on its feet and see how well it runs. Once I foresee an opportunity to go AWD, I wont hesitate to do it!
Thats what i originally thought too. I decided to trust a reputable company and listen to their advise. :banghead: Ill be contacting them tomorrow for an exchange.
I am using a 3g starter. If i were to try a 2g starter with a 3g transmission, i might run into fitment issues. I rather exchange the 2g flywheel for a 3g one and have everything fit accordingly.
Nice and expensive wheels! Depends on what your purpose is for the car. 17x9+30 would give you a nice functional look. If youre going for a wide stance look, get wider wheels.
