I went from a auto to a manual and.the prothane kit I bought did not fit my front or rear mounts. The rear mount has too big of a hole for the new insert and the front was just completely different.
Make sure you swapped a 1998 computer into the car. With a 1997 computer you will have to switch a wire pin to a new location for the one coil and altenator.
The crankshaft sensor controls the timing of spark and the camshaft sensor controls the timing of the injectors. The computer does not need flashed but depending on what year the ecu is you might have to swap a couple wires around to make it work. Do you know which year ecu you bought.
It's well worth tuning and its the perfect opportunity to start getting some hands on and learning something about tuning yourself. Get a wideband and start tinkering its the only way to learn there are plenty of people on here to help with questions.
Just make sure.you take your time its not a hard task. Have a picture of the timing marks available and make sure to clean you Hawley surfaces good. Theres a ton of info online if you get stuck on anything. The only way to learn is to try it.
I used 3m super 77 spray adhesive with no problems. Pull the headliner out lay your new fabric over it and trim to size but leave enough to wrap around onto the backside. Spray the old headliner let it get tacky the lay the new fabric over it and work the wrinkles out. Spray some on the back...
Oil leaks in the engine bay will not cause smoke out of your exhaust. I would also agree try a compression test and see where you stand. White is usually water.
I ran one for a couple years and it worked but it is nowhere close to being the most efficient way of tuning. If you already have one it would not hurt to use it while you ultimately save for something better. Safc, palm, mmcd program, and a cable to hook into your diagnostic port.
Does it make the sound when you turn the steering wheel side to side. Mine was making a horrible sound and it turned out to be a rip in the balljoint boot that allowed water and grime to get in. It made a metal to metal sound when driving and turning.
Make sure timing belt and other maintenance has been done first of all. With some pretty simple mods the car will easily run those times. As far as mods it depends on how far you want to go. Get a 14b something to tune with and look into the fuel system along with mods listed above.
Sit down and spend a lot of time reading and searching for threads about the fuel system and different ways of monitoring and controlling said fuel system.
Parts are so easy to find guys why not replace the whole thing and be done with the headache LOL. I did it on my 2g I just went to a junk yard and replaced the whole assembly for cheap.
Get a repair manual so you can see exactly how the timing marks go. Make sure you rotate it around by hand when done just to make sure they are lined up.
I see there are multiple dowel pin holes on the cam gears are there multiple timing marks also. I read on here someone else put a cam gear 180degrees out.
