Looks good turbobird! Great job on applying the Plasti-Dip, it looks smooth. In fact the Plasti-Dip is the reason I'm commenting.I Plastidipped my 2g several months back, white in fact! I just thought I'd give my small word of advice and tell you of my current experience in hopes that many...
Since I couldn't find a more specific forum to post this in I suppose I'll throw it up here.I've managed to come across a decent '98 (split thrust bearing motor) GST, and it has its fair share of problems. Basically I'm going to list everything I know about the car. I'd like some opinions on...
Figured its about time to post in your thread. You've put a lot of work into this car and I commend that. There aren't many people here that would put as much effort as we have into a GS. Looks like you've done a great job with everything. I've considered coilovers myself but decided I'd get...
Hey thanks man, the streets around here have done that to some people I know.Well all in all it cost me around 275 but that was because I purchased a sprayer made for plasti dip as well. By the way if you do decide to dip your car let me know, because I don't need the sprayer anymore and I'd...
Honestly I don't remember. It was all one write up on how to correct the rear camber with lowering springs. I'll search for it and see if I can find it.
Actually no, the fronts ended up sitting on factory camber. The rears were a little different. I'm pretty sure there's a thread on here on how to do this, but you have to buy longer bolts and some washers to use as spacers for the upper control arms. Basically what this does is push the top of...
There are definitely some tight areas but for the most part it shouldn't be too bad. A microfiber cloth really helps to take off the difficult parts. I plan on removing the easy stuff like mirrors and tail lights just to make it easy on myself. Currently it's actually pretty easy to peel off...
Update!I can't say it's a fresh paint job, mostly because it's not paint. I'll elaborate later. First, since we're on the topic of paint, here's a couple pictures of what the factory paint still looks like. Keep in mind this is after a GOOD wax job. Also, don't mind the dent.I...
Sorry for the late response, I'm planning on updating this very soon. There's been a lot done since my last change. To answer the question, it's doing OK. When I wax it the paint really does look beautiful. It's almost as if all the dings and scratches from my college town aren't there. The...
Next upgrade was my sound system. I don't have pictures of any of the processes or installation steps I took. But I grabbed a nice Sony Headunit and a set of Infinity Kappa 6.5" speakers all around. Then installed my JL sub that I've had for a few years. I like crisp sound over ear piercing...
After the last upgrades I just kept looking around for the little things to start bringing the car together. I found some typical clear side marker to replace the ugly orange ones. For such a small thing they really made the car look better. After installation and a good wax. Then I...
Interior upgrades were next. So I yanked out the old messed up headliner and pulled off the old fabric. I didn't realize how annoying it was going to be to get the foam padding off of the board until I started. Here's after 20 minutes of scraping...After scraping everything off I went to...
Not that it matters a whole lot but what makes you think that's a GS? Looks a hell of a lot like an RS to me. Still looks like you got a steal and a good looking car. Glad to see someone else boosting the 420a.
These wheels were a great deal, I jacked up an Evo and ran off with them. The tires ran me about $650 minus a $100 rebate card.I got the wheels in a trade for my stockers plus cash.
Thanks. I'll have a new update tonight. Most of what you're seeing is months old. I'm just starting from the beginning. Here's some pictures to go along with the suspension upgrade. Here's to show how flush the wheels are after the drop. The reason for this photo will become apparent soon...
Next I had to address the leaking sunroof. Not only did it continue to ruin the upholstery but it just made the car damp after a decent rain. So off it came and I ordered a brand new seal online. But before I could put the new seal on I had to address the rust on the sunroof, which I expected to...
So the journey towards restoration begins with initial repairs.I started with the obvious and most needed repair; The broken door handle.
This I ordered online as an aftermarket OEM replacement. Easy enough to install... that is until I got to the lock tumbler. :banghead: My mechanically...
Clean DD BuildWell I've been meaning to do this for a pretty long time, so here it is. I picked up a '98 GS this past winter here in Florida. When I first laid eyes on the car it was "OK". So I called them up and met the "owner" at the car for a drive. To my surprise when I arrived the said...
Whoa what's with all the hate on the 420a? What's wrong with having a clean car that gets good gas milage. I know I don't have a racecar but I could at least look good right?Check out this cool car (end sarcasm)
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS
You're right, they're very played out. Have you thought about straight bronze? I saw a 2g the other day that looked just like yours with similar bronze wheels. It looked sick.
What about black with a polished lip instead of an orange one? I think the clear corners look great and then it'll flow with the car and the wheels. If you did go with the orange lip then your wheels and the corner markers will be the only thing that's orange/burnt orange. I'm just picturing it...
I have a single JL 10W1V2-4 in a JL wedge box with a JL slash 250.1 amp. Yes, I like sound quality. Weighs in around 30lbs and has all the kick you could ask for. As for really light weight you could look into a Bazooka. I had a little 8" one and it surprised me with how hard it could hit...
Stock GR-2s or aftermarket ones? I thought 1Gs came with Excel-Gs stock. I just wouldn't suggest lowering springs for a stock strut setup that's 17 years old.
I just switched out my wheels on the 2g. I'm trying to get rid of my wheels and tires. Tires have a lot of tread left and I'd like to get $325 for the set. I can meet somewhere if you want them just PM me. Photos attached, thanks.
It might be a little late but if you're running the stock Kyb Gr2s then I'd suggest changing those out as well. They won't last long as is but especially after you drop 2". I bought the Tokico kit that came with 1.75" drop springs and the tokico "blues" (struts) that are made to handle the drop...
I need one of these as well. How would that even work? I always thought it was something that just pushed down into the hole and had a hook on the top.
Nice, well it looks great.Turbotalon1g: you could try a slim sub combo. I'm pretty sure JL makes a slim sub, that combined with one of their mono blocks would be pretty light.
Personally I think they won't fit. Cornfed says they will fit and he's run stuff like that before but he also said stock suspension. You are lowered and I don't think they'll work out.
I agree on the fitment. I'm running the Evo 8 Enkei's with 235/45/17 and i had to roll fenders and they still rub in extreme conditions. The other problem is I only have about 5mm or so clearance between the tire and the bottom of the upper control arm. With an extra inch of diameter you could...
I'm rockin' a single JL 10W1V2 on a JL Slash 250/1 monoblock. It sounds great for my style of music especially paired with my Infinity Kappa setup. So clean.:hellyeah:
Oddly enough the bronze stripe looks good. It gives it a bit of.. "Depth"? I like it. Here's a quick snap of my flat black dipped wheels.Still waiting on these springs to settle...:|
I have the two tone leather tan and black interior. I grabbed a MINT tan trunk cargo cover for $14 out the door. Probably my best purchase at the junkyard so far. Congrats on the good find.
I painted my Evo Enkei's with flat black Plastidip. I think the solid black looks good. No offense but the red pinstripe is something I see on Hondas a lot, so it's not my favorite. If you want something that is reversible then check out the metallic Plastidip. It actually turns out really nice...
I'm thinking some of the body molding is held on by double sided tape from factory because my car has the same thing and I've seen it on other cars as well. It doesn't seem to be some sort of ghetto rig. Have you checked local auto stores for clips? They sell door panel and body molding clips...
I suggest the HX35 though since it'll spool a little quicker. Don't get me wrong the 40 is a little badass but you're right, it does lag a little. A better intake manifold can do wonders after you boost as well.
I honestly don't have a front camber kit and I'm barely ~ -1 degrees out on the front right side, which is acceptable and won't wear tires away very fast at all. I would suggest the camber kit if you dropped more than 1.5" - 1.75" since anything lower than that put a pretty intense angle on the...
It's all about spool time with your turbo. You could have a boost leak or exhaust leak before the turbo. If you have a stock turbo and you aren't spooling before 2800 or so then you may have a leak somewhere. Check gaskets too.I also agree about the head. I've heard the 2g head is what...
Sounds like something could be bent a little. Another possibility is a really messed up mount allowing a lot of movement when the clutch reaches the friction point.
Very true. I recently went from stock suspension to full tokico suspension. Still settling but it will lower about 1.5". Then grabbed some Evo 8 Enkei's and some Eagle GT's (235/45/17 for those interested). Next is a full energy suspension bushing kit and strut bars. It's already a night and day...
