Hi, you shouldn't have issues with the stock maps so long as everything else is correct (good spark, correct fuel pressure, no boost leaks, etc..) What kinds of "tuning issues" are you having? What kind of boost are you running?I would recommend you solve basic things that may be causing the...
Finally finished the improvements to the cooling and pcv systems. In case anyone wonders, I built baffling into the MAP Catch Can, I can provide photos / details if anyone is interested.- Greddy Coolant Breather Tank / Swirl Pot
- MAP Catch Can
- Shaved VC with -10an breather lines
- Vacuum...
The RTV will seal, but the problem isn't leaks, it's that some RTV is bound to push into the oil passages, and if it breaks free it's quite likely it will clog a passage upstream somewhere in the engine.
You might be safe, then again who knows? You need to investigate further. The engines knock sensor as logged by dsmlink is tuned to pick up a very specific frequency range, which is almost always not audible to us inside the car. If you are hearing knocking, and not registering it on DSMlink...
Looks like it's going to be a fun ride! Are you going to rebuild the engine with the lazy cylinder and drop that in the 280? Or swap that back into the DD?
After a complete rebuild (Ross + Scat H beams), and going through one head (valve dropped during oil priming), I successfully broke in the new engine today. I couldn't be happier.Chris your car looks amazing, keep updating us.
Torqued down newly machined head to newly built block, only to find some assembly lube pushing out from between the MLS gasket layers. Lube apparently dripped down from head overnight down the oil returns. Should I worry about this? or can I assume the pressure between the head and block will...
You can get 30mpg at 70mph when cruising on a basically stock engine, but you need to have a properly maintained and properly tuned engine, and it's going to depend a lot on your bolt ons. Obviously if you've got a huge intake, exhaust, cams, turbo etc... then 30mpg might be out of reach.
It's a piece of cake for auto guys. Obviously disconnect everything from the engine, here are the key points:Remove Harmonic Balancer, and Water Pump Pulleys
Disconnect Torque Converter from Flex Plate
Disconnect Upper trans mount, support far side of trans with jack (and wooden block)...
No way it was a long oil pan bolt. A puncture like that was clearly caused by a single event, perhaps failed rodent sabotage! But most likely a stray bolt, right place, right time around a pulley, if it was a geared pulley there is a good change the timing jumped a tooth or two.
I just went through this myself, and it becomes a case or risk management, you could build a 6 bolt with 1g rods and 2g pistons and with the right tuning and some luck if could last a season, 2 or more, but for $500-$700 more of what you will spend on the stock rebuild you could use forged...
There are guys who have held that power on stock internals, but everything has to be damn near perfect, and keeping that power long term is not guaranteed. You will have a much better chance of meeting your goals reliably by building a bottom end with stronger internals.Edit: We are talking...
Finished tearing apart the motor. Rear BS seized, cylinder 4 wrist pin is tight, crank is galled, bearings are toast......Two weeks ago my oil filter pipe unscrewed from the oil filter housing resulting in oil all over the highway. I was driving in very heavy rain, prob would have...
If you track your car, it's a good idea to have tow hooks, properly mounted. Eventually something will brake, or you will end up off the track and brake some important bits in the process. If you'd don't track your car, and are doing this to "Look cool", don't waste your time, there are better...
GotBoost, I'm not sure if it's been said, but the PCV side of the valve cover does nothing to evac crank case pressure at WOT, it should be closed and certainly will be closed if you have a check valve. As long as it is closing you might as well ignore it as it is not contributing in any way to...
Simplest explanation: More boost = more blow-by.You're going to need more flow to your catch can(s), you may considering using both catch cans to catch blow-by similar to Setup #3, pulling vacuum from the intake on each Catch Can. You would want to modify your Valve Cover with an 3rd nipple...
Without camber adjustment parts shops won't be able to get it much closer. If you want the camber to be even and caster to be a bit better, start researching camber adjustment for front and rear. I've been very happy with the Ingalls front and rear camber kits. The way these kits work, they...
extremepsi has a great deal on oem left and right knuckle kits.... each kit includes the control arm, compression arm, and knuckle. just over $100 for one site, it's a steal...Only thing not included is the upper A arm. But for ~$200 mostly new front suspension you can't beat it.
NASA Mid Atlantic offers what are called Hyperdrives through OG Racing, they are $50 a session and include classroom time and a 30 minute session with instructor. You can purchase additional sessions for $50, each session is 30 minutes with an instructor.I purchased two of these last weekend...
Took mine road coursing this past weekend at Summit Point, WV. It was a success and a huge rush.First Session started out a bit disappointing after experienced brake fade. Picked up Motul 660 and bleed the entire system.Second Session was much better, ran it hard for about 10 laps...
If you have to buy a new alternator, I strongly suggest OEM.I've tried Bosch from Pepboys, and other brands from AutoZone, but they all failed within weeks... One went up to 19 volts and was smoking... No oil on it, still looked brand new.Been running a new OEM for 4 years since that...
If you need your car running good now, go back to pump. If you've got time to learn how to tune properly for e85, then start reading, there is lots of great info out there but you've gotta put in the reading and learning time.I should add that either way you still need to learn as much as...
Does anyone have knowledge about how the cruise control lever operates on the steering wheel, specifically about the signals for it's two connections? I'm assuming that the switch shorts to ground, but it only has two wires yet 3 positions. There is a yellow and black wire coming off the...
I'm trying to determine the ACC/RES pin on the Cruise Control ECU, I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know which pin it is?I did find info on the SET CRUISE and CANCEL, and brought it all together in one image:For future reference. Pin out details...
This has been a regular topic on here and dsmtalk for the past 10+ years, the answers are all there.Honestly, take off whatever you can live without depending on how you want to use your car, and then weigh it.
Once you gain some familiarity with ECMLink V3, and you are sure your engine is running great, the Evo8 Modified map is a nice place to start tuning, much better than stock 2g map. You can download the evo8 maps from ecmtuning:evo8v3settings [ECMTuning - wiki]Note: The Ralliart map is not...
Some will, yes, but this most certainly works, so well in fact that oil also came up my turbo drain through the cartridge and out the oil feed of my turbo which was unhooked when i did this the first time, I had the oil feed line draining into a cup to make sure the oil pump got oil.I was...
I discovered this gem somewhere else on tuners:Fire up the air compressor, pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, have a buddy blow some compressed air into the crank case through the dip stick pipe (don't go crazy, 10psi should be more than enough pressure to help send oil up the pickup, so dial...
Wish I would have :) Just found that page myself. I learned most of what I know from the Wikipedia page, read the whole thing one day. The section on "Hot wire sensor" Maf's was relevant to the GM Mafs. I didn't have any direct supporting info until I found the ECMLink page. It's possible...
Your missing the point of why his post was relevant. The fact is that the GM MAF provides it's signal in terms of MASS, regardless of if you are using a Maf-T or a cable + dsmlink v3. Both solutions allow for proper interpretation of the signal from the GM MAF.Since you need proof, here is...
Gofer, you clearly do not understand how a GM MAF sensor actually works... and your post was spreading incorrect information. Please read this carefully.First ECMlink is absolutely correct, the GM MAF does not measure volume, what they don't say is that it measures AIR MASS.AIR MASS...
I just want to point out that this is incorrect, the GM MAF absolutely takes intake temp and baro into account DIRECTLY by measuring temperature loss across several diodes. As such a GM MAF does not provide intake temp or baro signals to the ECU, because the measured airflow already has temp...
I'm surprised this hasn't been asked, but did you put grease (white lithium) on the inside of each bushing, as well as the sides (which in some cases rub against metal)Also, on a tangent: It just occurred to me that you could probably cut the energy suspension bushings in half for easier...
Yup, sounds like you may be a qt or 2 short, though it depends on tranny cooler a bit. Good luck finding a dipstick. I'm not sure if it's possible to deal directly with mitsu, but you could go through a vendor. ExtremePSI and I'm sure other vendors can source OEM mitsu parts even if they...
I pulled up at 4:30, lot was empty! Sorry I couldn't make it sooner but doesn't sound like I missed much. Oh well had my best round of golf earlier in the day :cool:Congrats OP
