2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

Correct, this noise was present with all belts removed. If you are referring to contact with the timing cover, that is correct. I pulled the timing cover when I replaced the pulleys and it had no indication of any wear or contact. Same goes for the pulleys and the belt.I think that is going...

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

Oh boy, that would make me cringe maybe I can do the deodorant on the back of the belt trick to see if that works.. I’m just nervous lol especially since the belt literally has a couple hundred miles on it.

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

Got it. It’s definitely a good thought though, I appreciate the help and suggestions. Right now I can only think that maybe the belt tension is off, I just don’t know how with the spec being accurate.

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

Hm. That’s odd then. My balance shafts are deleted, so that’s not possible. And I doubt it’s either pulley, since both have been new OEM. Are there any other bearings in that system?
  5. born2race

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

Understood. The only bearings in play other than the pulleys themselves would be the oil pump, correct? Could a bearing stop making noise once the car is warmed up? Even if the car sits for a few hours, it won’t make the noise. It’s only after the car sits for long periods of time. Haven’t...

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

Yeah, if I cannot figure it out I think that is what I’m going to have to do. I replaced both new pulleys already, so defective new parts are out of the question.
  7. born2race

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

These reasons are why I’m thinking it has to be belt/tension related, but I pretty much replaced all those factors other than the belt which is still fairly new.

Hey all, here’s a video of what I am experiencing. This is right after startup.

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

I actually bought a brand new 1 piece OEM 6 bolt timing cover and trimmed it to fit the 7 bolt motor mount. When I retensioned the timing belt I had to remove the cover and there were no wear/contact marks on the inside of the timing cover. I appreciate all the suggestions though!Like I said...

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

I will definitely be uploading a video hopefully tomorrow to give everyone a better idea. Grenade pin definitely slides in and out as it should, I just re tensioned the belt and the grenade pin was moving freely and I verified the arm gap distance to spec. Unfortunately it seems like I’ll have...

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

That’s an idea I haven’t thought of. I spun the pulleys after I installed to make sure they didn’t bind. And there are no marks on the timing belt or on the inside of the timing cover. But I will def look at the back side when I inevitably have to pull this apart. I feel like if something was...

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

That’s exactly how I thought initially. I thought I just had an accessory belt on too loose as that was the sound it was making. So i just let it be for a bit before trying to diagnose and realized it was coming from inside the timing cover lol.
  13. born2race

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

I figured it wouldn’t squeak without the load from the belts but yes I checked. It doesn’t have any signs of separation.
  14. born2race

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

All pulleys and tensioner were OEM Mitsu both times. Just did an oil change, no metallic/silver flake in the oil. Yes, the squeal is definitely from the timing belt side. It is the same squel as if your power steering/alternator belt is loose. I have already replaced both pulleys and tensioner...

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

It is not, it’s typical humidity and temperature on the east coast. The car is also kept in the garage. I did notice this started happening as it got colder outside. But I’m talking like 30-40 degrees, nothing crazy. The belt is fairly new and still relatively clean looking. I just would be...

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

But how can it be too tight if it’s within the plunger spec on the tensioner?

2G Belt squeal coming from timing belt

Hey all,2G, 6 bolt block, 7 bolt head. So I recently did my timing belt maybe 200 miles ago. Changed out belt, both pulleys, tensioner & water pump. Tension was set correctly using the loose tensioner pin method & verified proper tensioner arm gap. Recently my timing belt started squeeling on...

Marks on timing belt teeth caused from failed auto tensioner?

Neither do I, however I don't see anything else that could be making contact with the timing belt. And the washer edge lines up exactly with the marks on the timing belt teeth.
  21. born2race

Marks on timing belt teeth caused from failed auto tensioner?

Right, again I apologize for the confusion. If that's the case, then the "plastic" washer I was referring to is actually the metal washer for the tensioner arm. So this is what I believe is making contact with the timing belt.
  22. born2race

Marks on timing belt teeth caused from failed auto tensioner?

It looks to be the same diameter, which is why I was saying since everything looks normal the only thing I could think of would be the belt being too loose and making contact when the motor is running? The plastic washer I was referring to was that washer on the arm mount that I circled...

Marks on timing belt teeth caused from failed auto tensioner?

I can try more pictures when I get home, however I looked up some generic photos on google to show what part I'm talking about. See attached. The part that is circled im assuming is hitting the belt on the right, as when I move the belt, it lines up perfectly with the marks on the teeth.
  24. born2race

Marks on timing belt teeth caused from failed auto tensioner?

Ah I understand now, I would think that that little bit of range wouldn't be causing the belt to move that much though no? & I believe it's where the tensioner arm bolts down & theres a plastic washer around it. While the timing belt doesn't hit it sitting, when stretching the timing belt to...

Marks on timing belt teeth caused from failed auto tensioner?

I have not checked yet, I'm nervous to disassemble the timing components as I've never done a timing belt on a dsm yet. I know there are plenty of write ups I just want to make sure I'm diagnosing this correctly first. If the scenario you are describing would be the case, wouldn't I not be able...

  27. born2race

Marks on timing belt teeth caused from failed auto tensioner?

Hey guys, 6 bolt in a 2g. Noticed markings consistently throughout only the inside of the timing belt. Upon removing timing cover, I found the possible culprit, however the belt would have to be slapping around in order to make contact. The tensioner body seems to have hydraulic oil on it...

    Torque Solution Motor Mounts

Just seeing this now, I had torque solution mounts on my old 2g. Looked great, felt EXTEMELY stiff. Not the best for a DD, but i dealt with it. All were bolt in, except for the trans mount. The bracket on the chassis had to be widened by about an inch to get the mount to fit in it.

Alright I'll ask and see what happens. Currently I'm waiting on him, when I sent him the picture of the drain plug at 500 miles he had me send my oil & filter out to him for it to get tested so im waiting to hear from him what the results are. Crankwalked 2 motors within 1000 miles

I am not sure what the final end play was with this motor, I can ask and see if he remembers. I remember him sending me a picture where the motor was on a stand turned over so the cradle facing up & there was a dial indicator parallel to the block, so I'm assuming that's how he checked it.Oil...

Crankwalked 2 motors within 1000 miles

That's what we were afraid of which is why each build was a virgin OEM Mitsu crank, never machined & never saw crank walk. That was both times, then they were sent out to be machined & I'd imagine they'd both be cleaned as well. I always read and was told that OEM Mitsu cranks are the way to go...

The second motor I have currently is the one that I originally had, so it's a 95 block so no it's not the revised motor. The first motor I had done I'm unaware what year it came out of so I'm not entirely sure. As far as the clutch setup, everything that I can tell is within spec. When the motor...

1G fuel leaking between exhaust manifold runners

I would double check if it's fuel.. A lot of times the valve cover will leak and it will run down to the exhaust manifold to make it appear it's coming from it. If you have that much fuel that can pool up outside the exhaust manifold, there's some issues there... Almost think the car wouldn't...
