Alright so now I'm better understanding everything and I realized before when I was doing this I was leaving the tensioner pulley on the side giving it the most slack and that was my issue, I've got it now how it should be and have a buddy letting me use his vice this afternoon and I'll put the...
what exactly is the purpose of the tensioner tool though, is it just to release the auto tensioner rod slowly or what? thats the only thing ive left to understand
Alright, also i have a chiltons manual and its saying to use that tensioning tool your talking about i have to pull the motor out because it wont fit in there with the motor still in the car. Is there anyway to do a damn timing belt without having to pull the motor all the way out??? Again...
Alright so just checked it and it didnt jump timing, everything is still lined up just right, thank the lord. Now about the automatic tensioner, I didnt have a vice to push the little rod down because i needed something strong enough to push it down like a vice which i sold mine (bad choice). So...
alright the problem is back, its running like shit again. And for the second time now the timing belt feels loose in a section, ive taken it off twice now and everytime i have the marks lined up perfect and everything is tight, then i run it and a section gets loose and i think it jumps a tooth...
Ditch it, i live in spokane washington too and here we dont hardly need A/C, i just chucked mine and the damn compressor on the back of the block is a little 20lbs piece of metal waiting to be ripped out. haha
Yes it is ok to start it for a short bit, I just replaced my belt and just to make sure it was timed right i started it like that, your perfectly fine.
yea i had it grounded right, but i was doing it outside in the middle of the day so tonight ill try in the dark and ill try using some white out to see if that helps more instead
Well i dismantled the entire thing, redid the timing belt and took it for a test drive. It's now running a million times better but yet still doesn't feel just quite what it use to. So i broke out the timing light again but how the hell are you supposed to see the marks on the crank pully, i...
So i ran the timing light and its 60 degrees BTDC and when i first did the timing belt i was pretty damn positive it was all dead on, could it being one tooth off really create this whole issue?
Nope so far i havent seen a single CEL which is also making me wonder if mine even works haha, but I will be trying the timing light in the next few hours
So i didn't actually snap my timing belt but stripped the teeth off it so none the less needed to replace it. All said and done i replaced it and all the timing marks were dead on, compression tested it and ran 170 across the board. Now im stuck It's running like a fat boy choking for air. It...
I think i want to go boosted the only problem is if i do i wanna be able to find everything i need for under a thousand either from a parts car or somehow a full kit? any suggestions or links would be appreciated
i know im sorry i wasnt trying to argue either and i realized it would be alot more spendy going n/a but if i could find a turbo engine, ecu, and everything else besides the tranny for a thousand or less than ill deffinetely go that route
Ok but also goin with closer to 10:1 compression pistons, head and valve work, headers, exhaust, intake mani, cams, cam gears, injectors, fuel pump, fuel rail, and tune it right, and it should come out over 200 pretty easily not to mention with the right gasket work and arp's i could hook up...
Well pretty positive im decided on going with the all n/a build so get payed on the 20th to start this project and ill be posting things on my page as i start
I just really dont want another car though, i wanna keep it simple with just one car. on the e85 it looks like its a much better and cleaner burning fuel and would be better on my car but that read-me file also says that not only is it illegal to convert your car to e85? but also the fact that...
Thanks everyone for everything ive got alot to take into consideration, 9!eclipse i have looked at that thread a couple times actually haha. Now i know the 14b turbo swap alone if done right with bigger injectors, fuel pump, cams, and all other supporting mods will make bigger numbers than the...
Thanks for the input, i know it does sound like im pretty one sided towards the n/a build but im still partially undecided and just wanted to get everyones opinion and experience behind it before i completely decided so thanks :hellyeah: and yea i figured as long as i do the n/a build right i...
i totally get where your comin from with this idea, just another reason im so pulled to the stroker idea though is it will basically be a rebuilt engine which i imagine i need considering i have 167k miles on mine... idk ill listen to everyone and see which way to go
Alright so ive been lookin at alot of options lately on what i want to do with my 91 plymouth laser. Its the n/a 2.0 dohc and please before you tell me to just sell it and get a stock turbo'd dsm thats not what i want to do. i want to keep mine because personally i like the fwd better than awd...
Personnally i prefer the manley rods over the eagle rods anyday, all of them are forged and not cast so really either way would be good pick for the pistons but for rods go with the manley H beam
My 91 laser seems to do the same thing, not moving its just pushing air, when im actually driving is when it heats up and actually blows warm air. and i checked my thermostat so in my case thats not the issue
dont forget to also check and possibly replace the throw-out bearing, it can cause a slight humm noise. mine tends to when putting into reverse and sometimes first.
i do know manley rods are a good choice but what do you think about the eagle rods, and yea if your doing the pistons then you should get rods as well.
liquid thank you very much, i know some of my info was kinda off haha. not to say im only a senior in high school and just got into the dsm world but i knew i would want to get the supporting stuff before i got the turbo, unlike the guy who posted above you haha. Also very helpful links. I...
I recently purchased my first dsm, 91 plymouth laser rs. It is the non turbo 2.0 but i wanted a project so im looking to first build up the engine then consider going from n/a to a turbo. I was thinking to start bigger injectors, new fuel pump, new cam, bore it out a bit, bigger forged pistons...
Yes bogging and not getting to higher rpms shows your flooding the engine with gas and no air, hence all the talk of pre-turbo exhaust leak or possible something in the intake area. either way your not taking in enough air.
