Thanks for being out there taking pictures!! My favorite thing the few days after is finding all the pictures to help combat the rally hangover. Also, Erik is a super smooth driver... Zero drama, zero moments(Other than the header separating at the turbo for the last 2 stages), though I know...
Been a while again guys... Had a few issues including a seized caliper so the Rally car has been sitting on stands for the past few months...I did manage to hit up ESPR again this year, this time with Erik Potts, in his very quick Ford Focus.Managed to get 1st in 2wd, and 3rd overall out of...
It's been a while since I last updated this, and unfortunately I didn't get to race the Talon at Black River Stages.I ordered quite a few safety/tech related items and never got them, so wasn't able to compete in my own car... Couple that with losing my job, well... Sh!t happensSo I decided...
Your intercooler is a sealed unit, with pressurized air inside of it.Also, your intake would practically have to be submerged in water to cause engine damage.
The wastegate is on the turbo. But yes, you should recirculate your blowoff valve. Also, get/build a boost leak tester, and test for boost leaks...Sidenote; If "mist" is coming out of your blowoff valve, it's probably oil, since fuel hasn't entered into the equation at that point.
I guess I wouldn't mind taking the rally car to a "meet". Don't want to drive too far on the gravel tires, but let me know when you guys will be out next.
At dusk move the car outside, with the sun at your back and the flash on your phone, take a picture. Why not just have those painted/powder coated? Would look great in gunmetal.
Just a few things left to get done before the rally in September.Ordered a new ABC extinguisher.
An extra road triangle since one seems to have gone missing during the move from Colorado.
An updated first aid kit.Still to do:
Wideband o2 bung welded.
New tires.
34mm turbo restrictor.
Change...
A colossal pain in my arse, trying to get it ready for Black River Stages rally in September. Can't really drive it around town, so it's mostly a garage ornament.

Changed the transmission fluid, seems the syncros have been chomped into a bit... Oh well.Next up, transfercase and rear differentialRealized pretty quickly when trying to get the differential fill plug out that I'd need to get the grinder out.
Had lots of "custom" tools for my Lotus...
You've verified that it's not a boost leak by doing a boost leak test right?I get that you wrote that it's not a boost leak, but it's probably a boost leak.
I'd like to point out that even "professional builders" get things wrong, and the cage in that car was substandard. I could go into how the B pillar collapsed inward, the seat ripped from the floorboard, the co-drivers head outside the shell of the car, the body panels ripping off because they...
Eh, they won't affect anything on mine atleast, since the whole thing is seam welded and it's got a rally cage in it, keeping it straight and rigid... It's just ugly.
Car is currently at a shop getting the exhaust finished and replacement rear crossmember supports, with new body attachment points, as the old had completely sheared. Not sure how the bolts were still hanging on, they spun freely.Got a decent picture of the Daily and the Talon together.
Mine is sooo much worse than that. In my case I wouldn't even contemplate repairing it, as the only real solution would be a whole shell swap. The entire underside of mine looks like it was attacked by a baseball bat, but it's just from rocks... Big rocks... And bottoming out, on rocks.
What are you caging it for?
Drag? Running quick enough to need one?
Auto-x? Won't need one.
Track racing?Edit: As a side note that appears to be a universal cage, which would likely make fitment a hassle.
In my humble opinion, suspension is not an appearance/exterior modification, though it can clearly change the way your car sits. When considering suspension options, you should consider what the intended uses of the car will be, and modify it with that in mind...If the springs you got are for...
Having fixed a myriad of issues, and other than some remaining welding jobs I am left with this... An unsteady idle, and slow throttle response.I'd adjusted the TPS, as it was causing the car to idle at roughly 2200rpm, the car is now relatively steady, barring the fluctuations at 900-1000...
Thanks for the words of encouragement.I think it might have to do with the journal seeming a little disorganized compared to some of the others around here. I'll work on that one of these weeks.
Car is nearly ready save for a few things... The plan is now firm: Get to Black River StagesI've set-up an indiegogo campaign, and while I suspect most of the donations will come from family and friends, anything will help.I am in the process of getting stickers, and if I can find a good...
I don't have a metric ruler laying around and was wondering if anyone had an accurate measurement of the inside diameter of a Galant VR-4 Big 16g (49178-01420) in cm/mm.Thanks in advance.
My passenger side rear crossmember support bolt has ripped from the body.
While I wait to fix this, I'd like to pick up some new brackets but have had no luck finding a place that sells these.Anyone have any insight?(Parts labeled 11)
The first step in diagnosing the problem is still a boost leak test. You could get out a multimeter and start checking sensors, but get a boost leak test done.
It would seem that I finally have all of my air leaks solved.Took the car down to the gas station to get some fresh 93oct in her, to mix with the stabilized almost 2 year old Colorado 91oct. Going to try to find a decent place to get "cheap" Toluene to mix in for some added safety.Was...
The rev-limiter is there for a reason, if you're not hitting it for long enough to be faster in second like ileagleracing mentioned, there should be no reason use 2nd gear. You could always upgrade your valvetrain if you want to bump your safety net a bit.
Thanks, that helps a little. There are no engravings or markings other than the 2 I listed.Still curious about the disparity between the 1209 and 1199 markings.Resolved; Cleaned the seal seats on the head, used the upper injector spacers from the OEM injectors (softer rubber, but 1mm...
