Dont do it. wait and get a matched set... you really dont want to risk the damage you can do, 1.5% doesn't sound like much, until you get up to about 50mph, then think how many times the tires are spinning to go the same difference... you will trash something
think of having no grip in the rear tires... there isnt much weight back there so if you increase rear brake bias... when you are going fast and hit the brakes, they lock up, resulting in a damn near uncontrollable skid...
^^^^ He does bring up a good point, but i would be careful while doing it, too much toe out on the rear will make that car super loose, but then, thats when it is fun right?
having an FWD car slide around in the dirt is gonna be pretty difficult, i raced in a modified class, so i had a lot more leeway on my suspension, but i would definately look at putting a shim in the right front coil to give you some wedge, you want the weight of the car to be on your right...
a strut bar is in compression right after a corner under hard g's. think of the unibody of your car as a roll cage, when you turn to the left real sharp at speed, all your weight is trying to push onto your right front tire, however gravity is still working on the left rear to attempt to bring...
OK, so I think I am just going to dump the alternator and get a new one, this one has 150k miles on it anyways. while I am at it, I think that because i overheated and ran out of water that maybe my waterpump took a dump on me, what you guys think? also is it entirely difficult to change out one...
ill check the waterpump pulley on my next day off... probably around the same time i am putting in the dummy alternator. if it is just my alternator and then im gonna go to autozone and tell them they are full of $#$@ lol
Got a friend who has a dummy alternator with a good pulley, gonna throw that in. once i check that, if it turns out my sound is gone, im happy, then i can get to figuring out my P1500 if the new alternator doesnt fix that
Ok, I think I have finally figured out my wife... maybe. She is upset at my car because it takes time and money... imagine that. The more she listens to her mother, the more she hates my car. So now that I have that figured out and convinced her that me working on a car is going to keep me sane...
OK, I am open to offers if anyone wants to come get this car. I found a 3k that I am really interested in, and I cant move on until this car is gone (wifeys orders)
doesnt over heat, at least not that i know of, it makes a hellacious bearing noise, thought it was the alternator, but i pulled that out and tested it, alternator is good. the noise never changed when i was turning, even at slow speeds, so that rules out the power steering pump. the only pully...
sacramento or equivalent, dont really want to deal with bay bridges but i can if needed. not sure if it will make it to bakersfield, because of the waterpump and what not
I pulled the alternator had it tested. it is not the alternator. all the oil leaks are coming from the oil pan, and possibly the front main. honestly right now, i have a new source of income, but no time to work on the car. so i am getting out of the dsm scene for now, I might come back when my...
Yea, go to a reputable mechanic and have an estimate done to repair any damage to the drivetrain. then call the tow company and ask them what they will do about it, if nothing call your insurance agent
Im wanting 2k for it, the engine runs strong, just needs a water pump and an ECU and some cosmetic love. the interior is beautiful, no big issues at allif you are interested or have a good offer pm me
Ok so the final straw, I pulled the alternator out of my car and it seems as if the noise I heard wasnt the alternator. Apparently my water pump is going out. Also while I was underneath I noticed that my oil leak isn't just the oil pan gasket like I originally thought. I am seeing a lot of oil...
i have a 96 Talon TSi that I am looking to get rid of, working on replacing the alternator, and it has some cosmetic damage, but internally it runs great.
definately not the suspension, its only at high RPM even in idle. and no real vibration, just sounds like it. i think it might be the exhaust shield, but im not sure
For your bottle, if you are not really worried about looks, get a 32 ounce gatorade, drink it, get some high heat silicone and a rubber hose that fits the overflow spout on your radiator cap, push the hose through the cap, seal it with the silicone and mount it where you have room. I do this on...
Do any of you guys ever buy the Bosch Canada spec alternator? Seems to me that the 90amp version might help a bit, and I havent ever had any issues with a Bosch product. It makes me wonder if Autozone is having issues.
If you are using it as a DD you will not regret keeping the stock flywheel. Weight is evil, but only in performance quests. Upgrading to a lightweight flywheel increases throttle response sure, but it also creates more strain on the crank believe it or not. Imagine spinning a bucket of water...
Pipe is Pipe, however if you are running a lot of boost, Pipe is note pipe haha. Definately make sure that you connect is securely, you do not want to vibrate the CAI or SAI off of your turbo inlet... dirt= bad news. As for filters, I am a big fan of the K&N system, use them on my dirt race cars...
ok, so my Talon TSi is making a really loud almost vibrating noise at mid-high RPM, this is my first Talon/ Eclipse so I am not sure if it is normal. I do know I have heard a lot of the import 4-bangers sound like that, is it normal or how do i get rid of it? Also I have a P1500 code, FR...
Definately sounds like it is a spark issue. I agree with an above poster, I would check out the coil pack. If that checks out, then check for a loose ground going to the primary coils.
Yea it is, it needs a little body work, and the registration is back a whole lot. I am willing to drop down to 1800 for it. All it really needs is a TPS and I can get one for it and install it any time (broke college kid with a family, been driving the mom mobile around) I will take some pics of...
Best bet before you unplug anything while the car is running. Get a wiring diagram for the charging system and see what should be there. If there is anything missing on the alternator attempt to locate it and put it back on.
I have never heard of part stores alternators going bad, unless you are buying el cheapos. Then you are asking for them to. You can go to NAPA or Autozone, or most part stores and get an OEM alternator. You just have to ask for it. When it comes to stuff like that, you will get what you pay for...
It is running, the only issue with it atm is the TPS, which works intermittently, I am not sure if its the sensor or the plug which seems to be loose on it.
So, after fussing with the scanner and playing around with other things, I have decided this car sucks. I talked to the mechanic who did the rebuild, apparently all he did was reseal it. So basically I have a freshly rebuilt engine with new bearings and seals, but nothing else was done. I think...
There is a lot more than just speaker wires behind the stereo. If someone who did not know what they were doing went back there.. then Lord only knows what is going on. Best idea in that case is to get a wiring diagram and follow known wires and clean it up as best as you can.
You do realise that connecting an ammeter in the same way will not only tell you if you have a parasitic draw, but it will tell you how much of one. A testlight is a great way of testing for power, but for a parasitic draw? Skip the testlight and use something that can actually give you...
So when you pull the battery cable and run your DVOM in series with the wire (one lead on the wire, other on the battery terminal) what is the amperage you are reading? should be less than one on most cars.
Man, if I had the money I would buy that car in a heartbeat, but alas I am unemployed trying to live off the GI bill with a family. Good luck selling it, hopefully it goes to a good owner!
They can be used over again, however you still need to measure them and make sure they are not stretched in any way. If you overheat your engine, you can damage those bolts too. Be careful when reusing head bolts, IMHO new bolts everytime for less heartache later.
