You actually were able to contact JayRacing in 2020? I'm astonished. I tried contacting JayRacing and never get any response whatsoever. I've read that others have tried with the same results.
Looks like a 100% ebay purchased parts build. Hell you can even see in the photos how the "rev9" manifold bolt holes aren't centered over the port. I've had 2 of these manifolds in my shop and they were both drilled wrong and had an offset partially blocking exhaust ports because of it...
Just pulled mine to do an inspection. I have a black cover [gvr4 oem]. It ate the ring. Nbd. Just run it. It will clearance itself. Haha. No issues here. I'm just confirming, yes a fluidampr will eat the extended ring on your timing cover if you don't trim it off.
My 70mm S90 whistles a little, but only at about 5% throttle. It's clearly not a boost leak. I suspect it's just the design of the inlet for the FIAV and IAC. Since i'm running an external IACS, this is all blocked off. I'm certain that the turbulence just before the throttle plate is causing...
I live in Monroe. Currently my car is torn apart for winter upgrades, though. I'll have it out in the spring.I've got quite a list of things i still need to get done before driving it again. I've had this magnus SMIM for far too long without putting it on. I just got BC inverted coilovers...
You might be able to drop the oilpan and all the caps, replace the bearings, and do a balance shaft elimination. If you've got a 6bolt to toss in there that is built, then by all means.. go nuts. Your 2g engine might still be good. Hell, i may even want it if he price is right and you want to...
Pacific Auto Machine in Renton is not the place to go, i can tell you that much.I hear Pina is a good place to deal with, but they're going to mark up machine shop rates, (they gotta get their cut, right?) AND you can't speak directly to the machinist if you go through them. This can be a...
Awesome info. I can't believe we didn't notice this and do something about it before. It's so dang simple!I'm getting my head and block back from the machine shop pretty soon. Before i assemble it, i intend to clearance this area out a bit as well.Thank you for bringing this to our...
Looks like i just may have to change my mind and go with Action, since they're so highly recommended. They do seem to charge quite a bit more for their work, but maybe it's worth it, rather than going somewhere i know nothing about and have no feedback to rely on. I just picked up a core head...
Just wondering if there are any other local forums. (aside from pos.. that whole site is just too crude for my taste)I wasn't into cars when i lived in Seattle as a youngster because i wasn't old enough to drive, and later because i didn't have a car! Now i'm back and am looking to network...
Excellent! all great suggestions for me to follow up on. thanks a ton, guys! keep 'em comin' if anyone knows of any other reputable machinists.. let me know. It's much appreciated! Someone at work mentioned a place called DG Machine, down in auburn. If anyone knows anything about the shop, i'd...
Thanks. I'll call them tomorrow and find out what kind of machines they're using, although if they're really good it may not matter. If anybody else has any suggestions i'd really appreciate it. I like having my options and machine shops DO NOT seem to have any sort of web presence. WTF
Pina does machine work in house? I was under the impression they had someone else do the actual machine work. Do you know if he's got a Serdi machine down there for doing heads?Edit: i called them and they do NOT do their own machine work. i would like to deal with a machine shop directly as...
Just like the title says.. i'm looking for machine shop recommendations (used search, found nothing) based on fellow forum members personal experiences. I'd like to find a machine shop, preferably one with a Serdi for head work, that has an apparent good reputation, isn't going to take 6 months...
Watch your O2 trims, not you fuel trims. Watch them along with your HZ readings on the logger. Cruise, keeping your HZ around 300 if you can. Add or remove airflow to the ecu with the SAFC. See if it makes any diff in both O2 trims, and HZ readings at the logger. Make sure your O2 is...
While i agree that 1600F is HOT, (it's about as far as "i" would want to go) it sure would be nice to have a 1200C gauge like i happen to have, just in case something is up. Imagine.. you look over and see a 1600f gauge pegged.. that 1200c gauge would only be at like 900... plenty of margin for...
MMCd vs PocketLogger? I think they're both equally useful, although i like the 4 large number displays PocketLogger is capable of better for keeping an eye on things in realtime. While i like the graphing logs that MMCd puts all in one graph, rather than separate "stacked" graphs like...
I have the Apex'i EL (version 1, standalone gauge) EGT in my car with the original probe, and it works great. Much better than my friends Greddy gauge (until he put a TRE probe in it, now his is awesome) However, the Apex'i EGT gauge with peak/warning/playback costs quite a bit more than the...
If you melted a spark plug.. you've got much more to worry about than some bucking under boost. There's a STRONG possibility that you've burned a valve or a piston. You've run WAAAY too lean for FAR too long.
You don't have an EGT gauge, do you?
in all fairness, i think that a FMIC with a 14b would net more of a percentage of a gain than a FMIC with a larger turbocharger.. larger turbochargers are generally more efficient at the same boost levels when compared to a 14b.. a 14b at 19psi is in more need of some sort of help to get the...
GSX91BOY.. the point is here.. the FMIC this kid is talking about getting is an upgrade.. for the money he'd be into it, it's well worth it.It seems like with your posts.. you're discouraging use of a FMIC with a 14b. Is this the case? If so what are you smoking? Because i'd like to try...
The viggen fmic DOES have almost exactly 3x the front surface area a sidemount or stock GVR4 ic does.
For the $205 total investment i have into it, including all mandrel bent pipe and silicone couplers.. it can't be beat, and the vanes in it probably about equal the size of my ic piping. 8...
I just got done with a Saab Viggen FMIC install on my GVR4 (yesterday). It made a big difference.http://www.galantvr4.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=005238there are pics of it before i got the fascia back on and finished mounting it, but it worked out REALLY well.. i...
Oh, and my MMCd log is in direct accordance with that table on Taboospeed's site. I am assuming, at this point.. that the DSM logger software is much further from accurate than MMCD.
Thanks guys!
The taboospeed table will be going into my hardcopy "book" i've been compiling over the years. Should help a lot with figuring out what is going on here.
You'd think that, but with O2s, EGTs, and Knock being in order.. you're wrong.
Any less fuel = tons of knock, more fuel = runs like shit
base timing is between 5 and 7, wherever I set it with the ITC actually, itc is set not too aggressively, less timing yields a LOT less power, more timing =...
Yes, i have. On the small 16g, with full interior, and spare/jack in trunk (FULL weight), at 4700ft elevation, i ran 13.4, with the 550's and all stock IC and piping. Engine's bored .040 over, with 9:1 compression, and a very ported head.BTW, in case you forgot.. i drive a GVR4.
Hz at the top of 3rd @ 17psi, with a 2g maf, ends up around 1850hz
Coolant temp is staying right at 200deg or belowMy base timing is set at 5 deg, but the ITC can adjust that anywhere i like. I have tried different ITC adjustments throughout the range, and nothing seems to yield more...
FIrst off.. this was done on 17psi, 91 Octane, and 34deg IATs. (yes, utah is THAT cold right now)
Ran some quick logs on the car last night, and i "know" my o2 sensor is pretty well shot, changing it tonight most likely, but my question is this.. do the o2 voltages affect how much timing...
if you've no MAJOR mechanical experience, i would leave this to someone else, it is a MAJOR PITA and NOT easy, even when you have a press at your disposal
No my 2g maf is not hacked at all.My base timing is about 7 deg, i believe.Pocketlogger is logging injector duty cycle, timing is running about 18deg. under boost.
My ITC is sitting at 0, -2, -2, -3, -3 That seems to keep knock to a minimum and make pretty good power.I have since...
Does anyone have any information on a DIY (homemade) datalogger cable? I know it is possible to build one out of an RS232 DB9 cable, but i cannot for the life of me find any sort of schematic anywhere online.
I have found links to a "tunerstein" site, but they're all dead! Please help...
good news / bad news
i bought a fmic, from a saab viggen.. for cheap, should make a nice fmic for a while
i found a large boost leak, my POS IC is cracked (same core as a mk3 supra, only smaller. POS)
when i get the viggen ic, things should change a bit!
Here's the scoop. I have a galant vr4 with 8.8:1 compression, a ported head, tial gate, RC550s, safc, sitc, 2g maf, 2.5" upper ic pipe, walbro 255lph.
I was running 17psi (91 octane) and getting no knock, but my SAFC settings were up around 19-23+ between 4500rpm and 6500rpm *i have my points...
