I like some of the slightly more "hidden" mounting spots. Thats one thing I always wanted to do, tuck mine down a little more. I don't want it out where anyone can do the "whats this do" and mess with the boost levels.
Boost Gauge? MBC? RRE, Burshur, and this site all have pretty great upgrade paths to follow as money allows, I would suggest to do some reading on those primarily.
Ditto. Any particulate from the bearings, rods, or any other powdered metal that decides to demolish, escape into the oiling system, and are fed directly into the turbocharger's center cartridge. Flushing any impurities like this is almost impossible, so buying a turbo off of a blown motor isn't...
There are an untold amount of variables in selecting a new, bigger turbo for the car, and most preliminary questions depend on your goals. HP goal? Budget? Fuel mods?Any turbo that isn't DSM flanged - More money to setup - New manifold, Downpipe, Custom Drain/Feed Lines, Turbo inlet pipe...
Yeah; you should be able to just enlargen the exhaust manifold flange a bit for clearance. As long as you are using nuts that have a big enough bearing capacity to make contact on the entire perimeter of the hole, I don't see any potential issues.
I would double check your lines, mainly the Crankcase (Valve Cover) breather and PCV line. It seems you are introducing boost into one or the other, and blowing the dipstick because of the new increased crankcase pressure.
It does that because at lower throttle position, you have less engine load. Turbos are primarily driven off engine load via exhaust, so the amount or quickness of boost being generated is also lower. This principle is easier to understand while the car is in an idle position and is rev'ed...
If it isnt boost leaking, i would also suspect that your bypassing and blowing the wastegate open under high boost. A simple thing to try to give the wastegate more holding tension is to shim the mounting bolts by placing washers under the bolts mouting to the compressor housing. This holds the...
I would also assume the seals are blown. Does the turbo cause any blueish smoke from the tailpipe under boost? Remove the the rubber intake hose, is there oil present there? If there is, i woukd then assume that the valve cover breather is the culprit.
Welcome; I just recently bought my first DSM two weeks ago (90 Talon Tsi FWD) and I love it so far, alot of maintence and cleaning to be done, but its a fun car to drive!
All the Autometer EGT Probes I've seen were 1/8NPT. Since NPT threads are tapered, you may be able to retap the probe adapter, however, the more you tap, the deeper the thread mounts. Which particular part of the assembly is stripped? Most kits use an adapter that threads into the...
Here is another thread that outlines the idle adjustment procedure from the shop manual: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/270624-idle-adjustment.html
I'd be careful with the stock clutch, I bought my car ('90 Talon TSi FWD) with a stock replacement clutch, and it would begin to slip with anything over the 13psi power level on the stock 14B. I'm thinking about trying to source a ACT2100 now so I can run the 15-17 psi I tried for a week or two...
